I am applying for a Cover Supervisor position at the Rosebery School, which was advertised recently on Watford Observor.

The position seems ideally suited to an applicant with my education, experience, and career aspirations. I completed a Masters in English Literature (equivalent to a Bachelors according to NARIC), from a well-reputed University in Islamabad, Pakistan. Since childhood I was very fascinated and inspired by the effect literature could have on the reader. Reading literature from different centuries, without being there physically, left a strong impact on me and I felt that I was emotionally present and attached to the environment, which was being elaborated by the writer. Hence, I really found my degree experience a great learning curve as it contained many interesting and key modules such as Classical poetry, American Literature, Novel, Linguistics, Drama and Literally Criticism. I was able to thoroughly understand the entire course in great depth, and the knowledge and skills I learned from this course, I was able to utilize in my 4 years of teaching experience at a secondary school (over 80 teachers and over 1200 pupil) in Pakistan. Over 90% of the students in the school achieved grade A-C. Working as a classroom teacher quickly put me in the boots of a leader. I knew that the academic success of the class relied entirely upon my standard of teaching. However I learnt that my job was not only about teaching the student, but it was about motivating them and to make them feel special. It was about establishing in them the spark of seeking knowledge. Despite my usual tasks; keeping track of every students progress, taking attendance, focusing on meeting syllabus targets, I based my relationship upon friendship with every student in my class. Whilst following the schools code of conduct and rules and regulations, this strategy removed any barrier of formality between the student and myself. I spent time with each and every student and found it extremely important to regularly involve the parent/guardians about their childrens progress via phone or face-to-face meeting. I was very circumspect about homework and ensured that every student had noted it down correctly. I apply flexibility to my teaching method as I mean that static methods of teaching are less productive. My lessons contained short audio and video clips, discussions, demonstrations and other visual methods of teaching. I used to mark the homeworks of my students give my students with a star sticker, which had a positive impact as it gave them a sense of achievement and praise. I believe that a teacher needs to be flexible and adaptable to various roles and I found it important to identify the motivation factors for each pupil. I am aware that this role requires someone who is capable of filling the boots of others on short notice, without loosing the consistency in the work. During my first experience at the school due to the commitment and flexibility I had showed in my role, I was assigned as the head of the Spoken English faculty. My duties were setting scheme of work, preparing school exams (not the board ones), compiling the syllabus, monitoring teacher progress, liaising with teachers and the principal, solve any issues that rose and other tasks. I also started a reward scheme for teachers who fulfilled the criteria set by the department to best possible manner. This role gave me the opportunity to utilise my team working and organisational skills to a higher level and I was able to succeed in this role purely on the basis of good organisation, enthusiasm, focus, passion for my work and first-class team spirit. Providing monthly updates to the principal in meetings and leasing with other administrative staff were moments that gave me confidence and enhanced my interpersonal skills. In addition to the roles mentioned above, I was in-charge of the Assembly, school trips and the debating society. I was privileged to have the opportunity to be teaching on wider scope in 5 different roles, and be able to perform my duties to a high standard. My aim was always to inspire and motivate my students to stand up on their own feet so that they may become well-rounded individuals. My strong organization, time management and listening and

communication skills enabled me to perform my duties to the expectations of the school. My Principal commended me for my dedication and commitment. I was awarded merit certificates by the institution twice and once nominated as the best teacher of the year. Finally, in year 2008-2009, my efforts bore fruit and I was awarded best teacher of the year. I take the responsibility of my professional development very seriously. I am currently undertaking the PTLLS course in the evenings at South Thames College, which shows my passion and desire to improve my teaching skills and stay up-to-date with the UK teaching standards. I am also delivering private tuition in English at GCSE level to 2 students as well as holding classes for 30 students in my local community. This has enriched my knowledge about the UK education system and benefited the local community members as well. I am determined and confident that I can perform the job effectively, and I am excited about the opportunity of working in an environment with the excellent academia and staff. .
