Democratic Reform

The Goal and Problems

1) Low class and Women

Only a few high class people were able to vote, so most of the citizens at that time didn't have the rights to vote. For women, it didn't matter if you were a high class or a low class you weren't able to vote at all. The goal was to gain the rights to vote, so they could have a voice and so that the higher class wont be the only people that decided everything.

any freedom. They were treated really poorly and were paid nothing or almost nothing. Their goal was to free the slaves and make the south accept the fact that were all the same.

2) Self Rules
The Great Britain colonized most of the countries in the world. However Canada, Australia, and New Zealand wanted to tule their country by themselves. Their goal was to be free from the Britain, except for Ireland, and have their own government (including Ireland)

3) Slavery
In America the South wanted to keep have slaves and have the division of whites and blacks. The slaves didn't have

The Events

Chartist Movement

The Britain colonizing a lot of countries

U.S Civil War

The chartist movement was when the people who didn't had the rights to vote actually spoke up and told their demands to the Parliament. At rst they got rejected. However many people got got to know about this movement and they were able to join to the movement. After a few years, at rst the working class, than the male rural workers, than most adults males in Britain were able to vote. So, at the early 1900s the demands the chartist movement had became a law, but excluding the annual elections. As the men gained more rights, womens demanded more rights to them too. After protesting for years, they were able to gain the rights too.

Britain colonized a lot of countries during that time. Few major countries they colonized were Canada, New zealand, Australia, and Ireland. Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Ireland all wanted to selfgovern, because at that time Britain controlled everything for them. Britain gave that freedom of selfgoverning to Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. However they agreed to give that freedom to Ireland later than the other countries.

The United States of America had a civil war, which was south against north. The south didn't want to free the slaves and give the rights to them, when the north wanted to so. They had a war, and the results was north to the win. Slaves were able to have their freedom, even in the south side. Technically from the laws they were all equal. However their were still places where they had slaves in the south. Even though the number decreased a lot. It still exists. And racism still exists a bit.

The

End

At the end, most of the people in the Great Britain was able to gain the rights to vote. Also, they were able to vote secretly. Before people were able to see who they voted. However that was gone. Most of the slaves from the South side and the North side were freed, and in law they were equal with the white people. Ireland who didn't get permission to have selfgovernment made a army called the Irish Republican Army. The IRA, an unofcial military attacked the British ofcials in Ireland. In the end Britain divided Ireland, and granted home rule.
