Close interactions and exchanges with industry bring the institutes credibility, quality of intellectual capital and curriculum, talent readiness, knowledge transfer and resource up gradation up to date. The Placement offices of academia adopt fairly standard strategies and techniques to engage industry managers and leaders. They use events/ meets in industry domains, internships and project assignments, and restricted to a precious few consulting/ research interventions for companies. Not to mention continuous efforts to match the changing in sectors. But today, they need to do all this, while successfully competing with other academia and meeting the changing needs in various sectors.
Key Questions
Are industry relations advanced and adaptable to modern recruiting rigours? Are they versatile, responsive and effective in the capture of employment opportunities? How can on-campus talent access and engagement be internalized to the industrys hiring function?
Placements
A most challenging responsibility for a colleges Clearinghouse/ Placement Office is to build a consistent employment pipeline for internal consumption (on-campus talent) year on year. It is as much about the employability of its on-campus talent, as about effectiveness in relationship building with the corporate world. There are multiple vagaries in the market today - competition for talent primacy among academia all over the country in various disciplines; hiring contingencies getting more dispersed across the year, instead of the traditional summer focus; Internships and assignments are gaining ground; Pre-graduation offers for employment are a common feature. Also the growing subtlety in the economy: new sectors are opening up; old ones are either dying or changing rapidly; and the opportunity horizons continue to shift in various industries in various parts of the country.
Key Questions
Is the placement process be better tuned to synchronize internships and final placements? Can the tedium in the system be minimized, and transformed into efficiency the year round? Can cost, time and effort in placement processes and communications be mitigated?
