The MHS Dress Code includes, but is not limited to, the following RESTRICTIONS:

Sagging pants, boxers, briefs, thongs, or gym shorts visible above pants. Students wearing inappropriate attire noted above will be given a pair of gym shorts to wear until the end of the day.

The purpose of a dress code is to promote a serious and respectful academic atmosphere. A students appearance should not attract undue attention and should reflect a positive school culture. Students wearing inappropriate clothes will be required to change into the schools physical education uniform or change into more appropriate attire, if available.Students who violate the schools dress code will be subject to a progressive discipline policy, which may ultimately result in suspension and/or alternate placement.

Monterey High School Dress Code Policy

Sheer see-through skirts. If underwear is visible, students will be given gym shorts, which students will wear until the end of the day. Skirts and shorts less than a minimum 15 from the bottom of the waistband to the edge of the garments or mid thigh (finger length). Plunging V-necklines or exposed cleavage Shirts, blouses, tops lessa minimum of 3 below the waistband of pants/skirts. Shoes must be worn at all times during school hours. No flip-flops/T-strap style sandals are allowed.

Oversized "baggy" clothes may not be worn, including but not limited to (shirts, pants, jackets etc.) Clothes must be no more than one size smaller or larger than a students normal size. Clothing not good condition that shows excessive wear that results in exposing skin, for example: frayed clothing or clothing with holes. Fishnet or other attire, which exposes the body in a sexually suggestive manner, bare midriffs, tube tops, tank tops (with less than 2 straps), or halter top, etc. Sleeveless shirts on males (beater style underwear) are not allowed. Leggings or tights worn with dresses, skirts or shorts over them. Hats and/or bandannas worn in classrooms. (Hat may be worn as sun-protective clothing while outdoors. The school may regulate the type.) Hats may not be worn backwards or sideways. Dark glasses in the classrooms, offices, or other school buildings unless a documented health-related problem exists. Pajama bottoms unless a designated school spirit day has been declared by site administration. Backpacks or unusual haircuts that carry offensive designs or messages. Dresses, skirts and shorts shorter than mid-thigh lengths. Shorts must be a minimum of six inches above the knee (shortest). Spaghetti strap dresses or tops less than a of 2 straps(exposed bra straps/bras) unless worn with an approved top over or under the garment.

Clothing and jewelry having writing, pictures, or any other insignia, which are crude, vulgar, profane, obscene, libelous, slanderous, or sexually suggestive. Clothing or jewelry that advocates racial, ethnic, or religious prejudice, or other unlawful acts, or the use of tobacco, drugs, or alcohol is prohibited.

Any display of material or paraphernalia, which incites a disruption of the school process or creates a clear and present danger of either the commission of unlawful acts on school premises or the violation of District or school site policies or rules.
