I've got a 99 plate Astra 1.6 16v LS with the standard steering wheel. I'm thinking of fitting some steering wheel controls for the factory stereo but not sure where to start and what I need to get. I know how to remove the airbag. Just wondering how the steering wheel controls fit to the steering wheel and if I need any additional wiring. Also. If anyone has any part numbers for the bits I'll be needing that would also be great

there's a few guides on converting the steering wheel controls to coloured LEDs, so if you check those out it'll have a load on info on removing/refitting them. obviously you'll just need standard controls, and you'll find those cheap on ebay __________________ Click here for Custom Astra/Zafira Centre Consoles

I've used the search but it just comes up with threads about changing headunits or asking what adaptors are needed for aftermarket stereo's. Is all I'd need are the steering controls and they have all the wiring I'll need ? I've seen pictures of the controls fitted to te steering wheel so I have an idea about where the wiring goes on the wheel. Is there anywiring I'll need that runs from the stereo to the steering column/wheel or should it already be there in the loom ? Just want to make sure before I get the controls nd fit them and then find out I need something else as well.
Vauxhall bloke says it cant be done unless I replace the complete wiring loom as well which would cost a lot of money.

Remove your stereo and get to the ISO block. In the bottom power connector with a red and a brown wire at one end you should have 2 blue/red wires in the other end. If you have these then your car has the wiring for steering wheel controls. If not you'll just need to run 2 wires from the headunit to the steering wheel controls __________________ Want a professional job done on fitting your aftermarket electrical accessories? You will need a steering wheel that has the controls, you can't fit the controls to your old one. You also need a new squib/contact ring, which is located behind the st.wheel and has the connector on. The one you now have has a 2-pin connector which is for the airbag only, the one you need is with the 4-pin connector for the airbag and controls. If your car is pre-wired for radio controls, then you only need to change the squib/contact ring, and a steering wheel that has the controls. In case you are interested, I do have a brand new/unused steering wheel squib for radio controls, genuine part. __________________ Astra Mk4 3d X14XE / Midnight Black Z298

Sorry for the late reply. Only just got around to fitting my standard VDO headunit due to a member on here messing me around (3wks of delays sending the headunit then it arriving with no code and volume/power switch faulty. Member said it came fully working and with its code and wont reply to pm's now). I had a look at the ISO block and there are 2 red/blue wires connected to the lower ISO block. I take it these are fo the steering wheel controls? Would this mean I already have the right plug/connections behing the steering wheel airbag or do I need the airbag contact disc that goes before the steering wheel and do I really need to replace the steering wheel as stated above ?

This means the wiring is in place but you'll probably still need a new airbag squib __________________ Want a professional job done on fitting your aftermarket electrical accessories? HI all, I need to replace my airbag on a 54reg astra coupe, it has a leather steering wheel with audio controls. I was quoted 600 from a dealer clearly not taking that route and am gonna go down the ebay route unless anyone on here has one for sale. Does anyone know the correct product number please?
