Stolen parrot talks to police - helps catch thief

SOURCE: NEWSLITE.TV

BEIJING - A parrot which was stolen in China has helped police catch the man who stole him -- by speaking up and becoming a police informer. The clever bird had been sold by the crook to a pet shop in Beijing, which the rightful owner happened to visit after his bird was taken. As soon as the parrot saw its master its said to have started talking to him and staff at the pet store realised Wang Lu was his rightful owner. Details of the man whod sold the bird to the store were then passed on to cops who quickly located and arrested him. Previously weve seen a clever parrot returned home after giving police his home address, one who can speak Urdu and English and another who was arrested for being part of a drugs gang.

Man dressed as Gumby tries to rob store

SOURCE: REUTERS

LOS ANGELES - In the world of animated TV, its no stretch to say that good-natured Gumby is far down the list of characters that would commit armed robbery. But a man clad in a full-figured Gumby costume has made a botched attempt to rob a 7-Eleven store in California, and authorities are looking for the suspect, police said on Wednesday. It happened early on Monday when the man came into the San Diego store dressed as the green claymation figure, accompanied by an ordinarily dressed accomplice, San Diego Police spokesman Detective Gary Hassen said. The costumed man announced he was robbing the store, but the clerk thought it was a joke, police said.

Gumby said, You dont think its a robbery? Let me show you my gun, Hassen said. The suspect then tried to reach into his Gumby outfit but experienced a costume malfunction and could not fit his hand in a pocket, he said. Instead of a gun, the costumed suspect pulled out 26 cents in change which he dropped on the floor, police said. The accomplice, who had left the store and gotten into a minivan, honked at the man dressed as Gumby. He, too, walked out of the store without managing to take any money, police said. Both men left in the minivan.

Oakland Park brothel suspect surprises judge

SOURCE: SUN SENTINEL
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fl. Willie David Rice could be commended for his honesty, at least. In federal court on Thursday to answer to charges that he guarded an Oakland Park brothel, he gave this response when the judge asked about his line of work: Criminal. After an awkward pause, Rice, 45, explained hes never had legitimate employment. He was one of three people arrested in May during a raid on the Boom Boom Room, a bordello with underage girls. U.S. District Judge William Dimitrouleas said in the 22 years hes been on the bench and asked about employment, its the first time Ive heard that answer. Rice, a New Jersey native who lived in Hollywood, pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm by a convicted felon, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Man reports own parking violation to Conn. Police

SHELTON, Conn. A Connecticut man was so upset about the lack of parking enforcement in his town that he parked his car illegally in a handicapped space and called police over a dozen times. When they showed up, they subdued him with a stun gun and arrested him. Shelton police say they had to use the stun gun on Michael Andes Thursday morning after he became combative and screamed at officers that they werent doing their job. He was charged with breach of peace, interfering with an officer and was given a parking ticket. Authorities say Andes first called police at 2 a.m. and yelled at a dispatcher. Andes posted $1,000 bail and is due in court Sept. 6. Theres no phone listing for Andes. Its unclear if he has a lawyer. 3 BuGils Bi-Weekly - Issue #41 - September 21, 2011

Pair fired for fitting surveillance tag to false leg
SOURCE: NINEMSN Two employees of an English security firm have been fired after being tricked into attaching an electronic monitoring bracelet to a prisoners prosthetic leg. Christopher Lowcock, 29, disguised his false leg by wrapping it in bandages which was enough to fool two workers from G4S who visited his home in Rochdale to fit the tag and monitoring equipment. The workers would have noticed Mr Lowcocks artificial limb had they conducted the proper tests which they ignored. The oversight allowed Mr Lowcock to simply remove his leg and leave it at home whenever he wanted to breach the conditions of his house arrest for driving and drug offences, and possession of an offensive weapon. Another officer from G4S whose job was to check monitoring equipment was correctly installed also failed to conduct the proper tests. The security firm became suspicious last month and when they visited Mr Lowcocks home they discovered he had been returned to custody for a driving offence. G4S is a private security company that tags around 70,000 offenders each year on behalf of the UKs ministry of justice, a spokeswoman told the Rochdale Observer. In this individuals case two employees failed to adhere to the correct procedures when installing the tag. Had they done so, they would have identified his prosthetic leg. Failure to follow procedure is a serious disciplinary offence, and the two employees responsible for the installation of the tag have now been dismissed.

De Hooi
Hi Guys, Funny story: Not too long ago, oh maybe less than a year, I bought a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard/mouse set. Theyre pretty cool. The keyboard beeps when I get new email and has an LCD display on it, tells me the temperature and the time and does lots of other stuff and the mouse has so many buttons on it and the wheel does the side scrolling thing and has its own charging base. Another cool feature with the mouse is the wheel will go line at a time with the slight clicks but if you spin it fast enough it free wheels for scrolling through long documents. I thought that was really smart. The set wasnt cheap, over a million rupiah but well worth it as my computer is hooked directly into my TV and that means I never even have to leave bed to get things done. Well the funny thing is about a week ago when I put the mouse in the cradle it would act like it was going to start to recharge, the little green lights climbing, and then it would stop and the battery light would flash red twice over and over again. Oh crap! What can you do right? I guess I could try and take it back to the place I bought it but who knows if I still have the box and the receipt. Was at the mall where I bought it and couldnt even find the place. Who knows if theyre even still open. I tried cleaning the contacts but that didnt work and true enough it has fallen off the side of my bed a few times but I figured they drop tested this kinda stuff. So anyway my software said I still had 20% battery life left or 2 days time and I figured maybe if I kept putting it in its cradle it might get that one minute of charging time and keep on working but that red light was really bugging me. My first step was to find the troubleshoot on the Logitech website and I think it said I had a defective battery or something but wasnt very helpful. And then I think a few clicks later I was lucky enough to find a forum or a blog (whats the difference: never mind I just googled that and it turned into a can of worms) and anyway a guy had purchased the same model as mine on eBay and for that reason it wouldnt be under warranty according to Logitech. Plus even if it was, youd have to send it in and then months later maybe youd get a functioning mouse so he picked it up and slammed it on his desk! . . . You guessed it, he put it in the cradle and up it charged to 100% with all the pretty green lights and not a red light in sight. He didnt recommend doing it yourself as the little bastard aint cheap but it worked for him. Comment after comment of skeptical people reluctant to try it but with no other choice started picking up their mouses, pardon me, mice and slamming them on their desks and then singing the praises of the man who did it first and left his post. I thought this must be a bunch of shit, some ding dong somewhere wants me to pick up my mouse and slam it down on the desk and hes secretly having a laugh somewhere as the world ruins their (mice?). BUT. . . I did it anyway and now it works perfectly. Huh. Thanks for making De Hooi Southern Jakartas favorite beer joint. Cheers,

Harry

A Police STOP at 1 AM - An elderly man is stopped by the police around 1 a.m. and is asked where he is going at this time of night. The man replies, That would be my wife.

Because its Rugby time.... Three Australians and three Maori are travelling by train to Brisbane for the decider for the Tri Nations Cup. At the station, the three Maori each buy a ticket and watch as the three Aussies buy just one ticket between them. How are the three of you going to travel on only one ticket? asks one of the Maori. Watch and learn, mate, answers one of the Aussies. They all board the train. The Maori take their respective seats but all three Aussies cram into a toilet and close the door behind them. Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He knocks on the toilet door and says, Ticket please. The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor takes the ticket and moves on. The Maori see this and agree it was quite a clever idea. So after the game, they decide to go one better on the return trip and save some money. When they get to the station for the return trip, the Aussies, once again, buy a single ticket for the return trip. To their astonishment, the Maoris dont buy a ticket at all!! How are you going to travel without a ticket? says one perplexed Aussies. Watch and learn, bro, answers a Maori. When they board the train the three Maori cram into a toilet and soon after the three Aussies cram into another nearby. The train departs. Shortly afterwards, one of the Maori leaves the toilet and walks over to the toilet where the Aussies are hiding. He knocks on the door and says, Ticket please.

he new season is upon us and in keeping with tradition the new strip is some way behind. As with last season, part of the problem is what to do with the sponsors logos. Last season we eschewed* the option of the cheap strip for fear that it may not take the iron-on logos. We neednt have worried no-one watching us will have recognised the logos anyway after the first wash. This season the problem is how to fit all the logos on the shirts. As mentioned in a previous match report, this season were blessed with an abundance of sponsors and in danger of resembling Formula1 drivers or Tour cyclists when the kit finally arrives. Thanks to Derrick and Nick for sponsoring again this season (Tesla and BH financial respectively). Derrick would like to point out that his company has nothing to do with electric cars, or indeed with saving the planet in any way, and Nick would like to point out that it is wrong to pronounce his company the Indonesian way and suggest it has anything to do with lingerie. Underwriting, maybe, under-wiring, definitely not. Thanks also go to King for convincing his friend CVO to become one of the two main sponsors. As soon as we find out what CVO does well let you know but its definitely not dentistry and probably not slimming aids. It was good of King to take time off from practicing new goalkeeping techniques and acting as a form of demi-god to Sjoerds kids one of them (a four year old) turned up at a pre-season friendly wearing goalkeeping gloves and sporting a shaved head. You can almost imagine them stuffing pillows into their pyjamas and diving about the bedroom shouting I am Boris. Oops. Jasper possibly arranged the rest of the sponsors, including BuGils Group (very nice bars) who want no publicity at all for their extremely generous sponsorship. Other main sponsors Santa Fe were moved (ahem) to contribute a sizeable sum amazing that Jasper managed to time his request to coincide with the five minutes Mr W spends in Jakarta each month (this is an estimate based on facebook postings from exotic locations). Moving swiftly on (ahem again), you may have noticed EPL players sipping on drinks before games? Well, thanks to Coca Cola BuGils players can emulate all their heroes, although Im not sure Rooney et al are downing cans of Sprite during matches. Our appreciation for post match drinks goes to Heineken, Guinness and the extremely generous, and publicity shy, BuGils Group (great bars). Much to the annoyance of Marcelele, Dos Hermanos donated cash rather than product but Marcelele can perhaps talk to other treasurers in Indonesia to see if theres some way of turning this to his advantage. If, in reading our shirts in the future you notice Ive missed any sponsors, please let me know what they do and Ill do the needful. Anyway, this is a match report so how about some talk of football? First game of the season against DoIt United. Those boys have been around so long theyre named after a nightspot that no longer exists imagine that eh? Theyre renowned (rightly or wrongly) for being a bunch of moaning ****s during games. They also drink Anker post match even if they win! They beat us 2-1. We shoulda got a point at least, even though according to DoIt we cant play football. I dont want to bore you with further details of the above first league match nor of the two pre-season friendlies not yet reported (we lost....badly). Last word goes to Willie blister boy, erstwhile top striker. While watching from the subs bench in a pre season friendly as Alex2 came on and slotted home against German Plus (who incidentally were back to their full strength - where Plus refers to Professionals) striker Willie remarked its good to have someone who can score.

* there always has to be a footnote...except when the editor misses it the last report told of BuGils first silverware of the season; the missing footnote on the word first was supposed to clarify that this meant ever. Another constant in these reports is a word that encourages our multinational players to consult their dictionaries at two words a month were hoping English will be a first language for the team of season 2111/2112. 16 BuGils Bi-Weekly - Issue #41 - September 21, 2011
