Dime Si Llegue A Tiempo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJHzDepyml0 Celia Cruz, Queen of Salsa, and Johnny Pacheco as stars-in-collaboration. "There is nothing more notable in Socrates than that he found time, when he was an old man, to learn music and dancing, and considered it time well spent." Fania Records released the album Celia y Johnny in 1974. Celia Cruz had done her best work up to that point in the 1950s, most notably in Cuba with the Trio Matamoros. Her subsequent U.S. recordings overshadowed her with too much orchestration. Until Johnny Pacheco came along. Johnny Pacheco was a Dominican born flutist and percussionist. In 1964, Johnny Pacheco joined the development of the New York Salsa sound with the founding of his Fania Records company. His knack was in matching singers with songs, and then surrounds them with the right talent. Johnny Pacheco described it as "stars-incollaboration." A later similarity in collaboration would be equally classic and artistically and commercially successful Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones' 1982 Thriller album. For Celia Cruz, in 1974 Johnny Pacheco backed her with his own band, including Charlie Rodriguez and pianist Papo Lucca. Johnny Pacheco had gone to the regular Fania Records songwriters for new material and the resulting recording session was both heated and a classic. Celia y Johnny's two finest tracks are "Quimbara" and "Toro mata." Salsa the dance, like Swing dance, has Lifts & Drops. This feature makes Salsa attractive to the Swing Dancers who can transfer their Lifts & Drops knowledge over to Salsa. Salsa is a Club dance developed by New York City Club dancers for the New York City Puerto Rican musicians' music in New York City. The dance's Steps and Figure's are derived from Mambo. A Club Dance by definition is less formal in structure and more loose in technique than the other dance categories. Dancers still dance it flat-footed, smoothly, with small Steps, and with a lot of Spot & Turns. 'There is NO bounce. Dancers classify Salsa as an Intermediate Level Dance. New York Salsa starts to the side with the right foot for the Leader and left foot for the Follower. Basic timing breaks on the 3 beat where other styles break on the 1 beat. Latin Dance champion Ron Montez teaches the basic step breaking back or forward and the basic timing breaking on the 1 beat. Salsa is also categorized as a Spot Dance. Salsa's measures per minute is 35 to 40, with 4 beats to a measure so 140 to 160 beats per minute. Latin refers to venues like clubs or dance studios that specialize in Salsa, Merengue, Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba and Mambo music, dancing and clothes. Want to be the part? Then dress the part. For women's clothes, ladies more often wear the proper attire of short full-skirts or long skirts with full-length leg openings. Low-necklines and exposed midriffs for lady's dancewear and costumes are acceptable. Bright and colorful costumes are popular for both gentlemen and ladies. gentlemen. Gentlemen's dressy vests are acceptable. Gentlemen still always wear dark colored trousers, often cuffed and pleated dress trousers and a belt. Dress button-up shirts, or a silk or rayon Hawaiian shirt or tight muscle T-shirts of any solid color are popular - especially with suspenders. Fedoras are acceptable. Latin dancing still requires nylons and high heels for the lady. Latin dancing requires dark colored thin soled leather dress shoes for the gentlemen. Latin dancing also includes leather or vinyl clothing for the gentleman and lady. Like Buena Vista Club, for those Latin music lovers, Cuba: The Forgotten Island - Return to Havana is a video of Cuba's cultural heritage, accompanied by world-famous dance rhythms, bringing the ethnic heart of Cuba to life with footage of Cuban musicians. Cuba: The Forgotten Island - Return to Havana is available at most libraries. It covers the African-inflected rumba, the rootsy son and guaracha, which form the basis for the modern Salsa. Much of the worldwide growth of the Latin music and dance and their popularity comes out Cuba's music. From the music of Gloria Estefan to Ricky Martin, from the films Salsa to Dance With Me, the music and dance of Cuba and the Queen of Salsa, Celia Cruz, are enjoyed worldwide. Salsa is a particularly sweet film produced and choreographed by Kenny Ortega, starring Bobby Rosa, former lead singer of Menudo, and Angela Alvarado, Willie Colon, Marco De La Cruz, Celia Cruz, Roxan Flores, Jesus Fuentes, Magali Garcia, Miranda Garrison, Robert Gould, Rodney Harvey, Constance Marie, Moon Orona, Humberto Ortiz, Michael J. Non-accredited self-titled dance teachers' focus on Steps and Figures is the biggest single obstacle to the learning of Ballroom Dancing well. Their students look like androids rather than dancers. Jeff Allen wrote "The hallmarks of good teachers are their ability to dole out the proper quantity of honesty, criticism and encouragement. Fawning and flattery are the hallmarks of con men. One must be cautious not to mistake fawning and flattery for encouragement and honesty. The lines of propriety are crossed when all these compliments and accolades are in fact meant to gain the confidence of the student for purposes of sales or extracting funds for other purposes rather than to represent what is really happening to the student. When a student is honestly informed about the process of their dance education along with their responsibility to practice they become more willing to accept the necessary and valid criticisms that are required. Dancing is learned by gaining the correct physical feeling, not an emotional one."
