The teacher will show the students a variety of color scheme examples as well as Warhol Silkscreen examples. After the presentation, the teacher will ask six students to describe each color scheme. The teacher will check that the students understand the color schemes and objectives. The students will then create their own design and proceed to paint each square. The students will complete their projects in a timely manner and the projects will be displayed in the classroom. Procedures: Part I: Overview of Lesson 1. Teacher will present a PowerPoint presentation detailing color and the

six different color schemes. 2. To prepare for the lesson the teacher will create a sample project and check out visual aids from the library such as books and posters. The teacher will display Warhol silkscreen pictures on the front presentation board. All materials and tools will be out on the tables for students to use. 3. Teacher will demonstrate using the carbon paper so that the student can trace their picture onto each square. 4. The students will be motivated by the idea that they can create whatever design they choose. They will be allowed to use the color schemes in whichever order pleases them. Part II: Criteria for Grading 1. 2. 3. 4. First complete your drawing. Use the carbon paper to trace the design on six different squares. Paint the squares using six different color schemes. Show respect for classmates by only using your paint palette and paintbrush.

Part III: Sequential Description of Steps

Day 1
Step: Teacher Preparation: Create sample project using tempera paints. Prepare PowerPoint slide show to be shown at the beginning of class detailing the element of color. The students will be shown Andy Warhol silkscreen examples on the projection screen and personal samples from the instructor to be displayed in class. Step 1: Present the PowerPoint presentation detailing color and the six different color schemes. Show the students one example of each color scheme. Step 2: Tell the students they will be designing their own picture and show them how to copy their image using carbon paper. Step 3: The students will draw their image on a 5 x 7 piece of paper. The image should not exceed 5 x 5. Step 4: The student will divide their 11x 17 piece of paper into six even squares and trace their design in each square using carbon paper. The student will write their name on the back of the paper.

Step 5: The student will use the tempera paint on their palette to paint each square a different color scheme.

Day 2
Step6: The student will continue to paint each color scheme. Step 7: The student will allow the painting to dry and will clean up all materials.

Clean-Up: The students will need 5 mins at the end of each class to clean up all materials. 1. Assign each student a tool to collect and/or clean. 2. Have each student place his or her paintings on the drying rack. 3. Each student will collect his or her assigned tool and place in the proper area. 4. Each group table will clean their workspace and wipe down their table. 5. Students will wash their hands. Evaluation: (See attached grading rubric) Grading Rubric aligned with objectives and criteria. Criteria: First, draw the same image in all six boxes using carbon paper for tracing. Effectively demonstrate visually an understanding of color. Uses six different color schemes. Show respect for your classmates by only using your paint palette and paintbrush.

Accommodations: This lesson can be done with most students. If a student has difficulty

holding the paintbrush the resource officer can assist. The student can tell the resource officer which colors they want to use in each square.

Extensions: The teacher could extend this lesson by discussing Split complementary color scheme and Tetradic (double complementary) color schemes. Name:___________________ 0 1 2 3 No attempt Needs Improvement Satisfactory Exceeds expectations
