Lesson Objective(s) (Stated in observable and measurable terms)

The students will be able to analyze the amendments to the United States Constitution in order to determine their true meaning and impact on todays society.
Assessment Plan (What will be done to determine if lesson objectives have been met?)

The students will be responsible for designing a Photo Story on at least one amendment. The Photo Story will include an explanation of what the amendment says and cite at least one example when this amendment has impacted society in the United States from within the last 10 years.
Materials:

List of all amendments Computer Microphone Microsoft Photo Story

Assign an amendment in which its impact in the last ten years isnt so evident Mandate the number of sources

Lesson Differentiation (What modifications/accommodations will be made to ensure that ALL students have access to and are able to participate in the lesson):

The students will have time to complete this project in class to insure that all students have access to the required materials. Depending on ability levels, the amendments may be assigned to various students; some amendments will have information that is more readily available. Students will special needs will have access to a graphic organizer and a list of websites that can be used to research.

Lesson Presentation
Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set:

The lesson will open with the teacher displaying a photo story that has been completed on one the constitutional amendments.
Detailed Teaching Sequence: (Provide sufficient detail that would enable a substitute to effectively present this lesson. Bulleted statements are preferred)

Start the lesson by playing the completed Photo Story example Explain the project that they will be working on (criteria should be on the board) o o o o o o Create a photo story that is at least 30 seconds long Pick one amendment and describe it Then pick at least one event in the last 10 years that pertains to this amendment (must be in the United States) The students must use at least 5 different pictures The students must record their statements The students must have music in the background

Show the students a video tutorial on how to use Microsoft Photo Story be sure to take time to answer questions; show the video again if necessary Ensure that students have their list of amendments (provide list if they dont have) Take the students to the computer lab and give them time to work on their project o Have tutorials posted somewhere that the students can view them if they need help

At the end of this lesson, the students will present their photo stories to the rest of the class

Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities

The students will have time to independently research their amendment and corresponding event. The teacher will provide guidance in the form of online tutorials and in person assistance on the software and assignment criteria, potential website for research, and graphic organizers. The students will be assessed on how well they described the amendment, whether the corresponding event relates to the chosen amendment, and if they met the criteria of their photo story.
Closure:

The students will present their final photo stories to the class. The class will vote on who was the most creative and who was the most informative; those two students will receive bonus points. The teacher will then orally summarize the information.
