Secondary Level English Proficiency (SLEP) and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) recommendations for admission to Stanstead

College
For entry to Grades 7, 8 and 9 No minimum SLEP or TOEFL is required for entrance at these levels. Stanstead College offers a full English Second Language (ESL) program in Grades 7, 8 and 9 as well as an English Language Support Program. For students wishing to gain entrance into the regular Grades 7, 8 and 9 academic programs, a minimum of 50 is recommended on the SLEP test in the 50th to 99th percentile range. For entry to Grades 10, 11 and 12 TOEFL requirements for college and university admission in North America vary. Stanstead Colleges mission is to ensure that students have all possible doors open to them with regard to college and university admission after they graduate from Grade 12. By Grade 12, all students hoping to gain access to North American colleges and universities should have a minimum Internet-Based TOEFL (IBT) score of 90 -100. (See enclosed examples.) As a result, Stanstead College recommends that students entering at the Grade 10 or 11 level have a TOEFL score greater than 70 prior to admission. Students entering at the Grade 12 level should have a TOEFL score greater than 80 prior to admission. SLEP requirements would correspond with these recommendations; therefore, students entering at the Grade 10, 11 or 12 level should have a minimum SLEP score of 50 in the 50th to 99th percentile range.
