These settings were only tested on the HP XW8000/XW8200 platform with Media Composer software. As a result, Avid can not recommend that these OS changes be installed on other Win XP platforms. These changes are NOT approved for Avid DS systems

R = run Optimize_WinXP.reg file; M = Must be set manually by user; D/M = Default setting, may change under certain circumstances Setting Instruction Procedure
Some customers have installed as many as 40 or 50 Hotfixes on their WinXP boxes. Avid currently supports three. Even with Auto Update disabled, some IT departments are manually installing the hotfixes because of internal policies. Check for installed hotfixes by running Start>Run>cmd>type "systeminfo". Compare the list of hotfixes here to Avid-approved list of hotfixes on the "Avid Security Guidelines and Practices" document (securitybestpractices.pdf on the Avid Knowledge Center) Windows XP uses an AutoPlay feature to automatically run programs and open files that it encounters on CD-ROMs and DVDs. If you plan to use the Online Library and Online Tutorial CDROMs, you should turn off AutoPlay for CD-ROMs that contain mixed content. a. Click Start > My Computer. b. Right-click the CD-ROM or DVD drive you want. c. Click Properties. d. Click the AutoPlay tab, select Mixed content. e. Under Actions, select Take no Action. f. Click OK. Start > Settings > Control Panel > Power Options > Always On > Turn off monitor and turn off hard discs to Never; * WE HAVE SET THIS TO "ALWAYS ON", BUT UNABLE TO TURN OFF THE MONITOR SLEEP. IT SHOULD NOT TURN OFF Start > Settings > Control Panel > Power Options > Hibernate > Deselect Hibernation * WE WERE NOT ABLE TO TURN OFF THE HIBERNATION TAB, HOWEVER THE POWER SCHEMES IS SET TO NEVER. Right Click Start > Explorer > Right Click Each Disc > Properties > Deselect "Allow Indexing Service to index this disc for fast file searching". *Customer must change this manually if they want it off, as there is no registry setting. Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory Change > Custom Size. Default setting of 1.5x the amount of installed RAM should be set correctly for both the initial and maximum size from the factory. However, these settings may require a change, depending on the amount of RAM in the Customer's system.
