very school in NHA will be participating in this exciting contest. Students will be combining their knowledge of our Moral Focus topics with their new knowledge of writing persuasive essays to create a writing piece to be entered into the competition. The 6th grade teachers will each pick one classroom winner and the sit together select a 6th grade winner that will be submitted for judging.

Families interested in helping with decorations, supplies, music, games, food pick up, clean up please contact Ms. Textor or Mrs. Lee.

Spirit Shirt Orders


Please let Mrs. Lee know if you are interested in buying a shirt. Extras have been ordered in case someone still wants one. The is $8.00

Please remember to make sure your Shark is following the SCS Dress Code Policy. Here are a few reminders to make sure there are no violations at school. White shirts with collarsshort or long sleeve All shirts must be tucked in Sweaters or VestsNO HOODSsolid color navy, white, brown, tan, black, burgundy, red, gray, or dark green Clothing cannot be wrapped around waist Pants with belt loops must have a belt Shoesmust be loafer or dress in black, brown, navy, or burgundy

The Lunch Bunch

Winter is here!

Students need

to make sure that they are dressed appropriately for winter weather. They have outdoor recess and car loop at the end of the day. Jackets that zip, gloves, hats, and scarves will help to keep your Shark warm and cozy!

Students in middle school will be invited to stay in their classrooms for lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays to complete work missed in class. This will be a time to catch up or get ahead on assignments from any of their classes. The Lunch Bunch will also be a time for silent reading for those students who just wish to work on their reading logs.
If a student is invited to attend, they must come or a NEC will be issued.

Please see your SCS handbook if you have more questions about proper dress attire.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS Non Fiction


Students will begin to explore different Non Fiction Writing Styles this month. In this unit we will explore more expository writing, introduce persuasive writing, and complete an author study on Gary Paulsen.
**Ask your student about the Dead Greeks and their argument styles**

I can use the Elements of Nonfiction to compose expository, persuasive essays, and biographies.

SOCIAL STUDIES WITH MS. TEXTOR


In Social Studies students will continue to learn about ancient Greece. This week students will discover the battles between Ancient Athens and Sparta. Students will explore the two different cultures and why they fought against one another. I can... Analyze the causes and consequences of Ancient Greek conflicts.

SCIENCE WITH MRS. LEE


This week students transitioned from using their Metric Ladders to configuring volume of liquids and three dimensional figures. They all performed a lab using their liquid measuring cups as a scientific tool to determine how much a penny actually weighs connect the results to why people literally throw them in the trash.
I can read the meniscus line of a liquid measuring cup. I can configure volume of a three dimensional figure.
