Greetings from Disabled Peoples International Asia Pacific (DPI/AP). This is an email update featuring developments in the field of disability, developments concerning social justice and news from around the world. Because of the importance of social justice as a basis for our work, we added this as topic into our newsletter.

A) Developments in the field of disability


1. Trains to reserve seats for the disabled This article said that Chinese railway authorities are going to set aside seats and berths - at least five on each train - for disabled people. Please follow link. 2. Plea for aerobridges at KLIA2 This is a report that about 200 people, comprising both able-bodied and the disabled protested against the lack of aerobridges at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2), which will replace the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal. Please read more. 3. Deaf Awareness Week 2011 This article is to announce the Deaf Awareness Week celebrated nationwide from November the 6th to the 12th, this year. Please follow link. 4. Fiji Services for Women with Disabilities Needs Improvement This report is about women with disabilities. It says that they are the most vulnerable when it comes to gender-based violence, yet support services for them in Fiji are severely lacking, a meeting discussing the elimination of violence against women has heard. B) Developments concerning social justice


1. Human Rights activists join hands for the protection of the minority rights in South Asia This article is about human rights activists from south Asian nations who have join hands for the protection of the minority rights in south Asia. A DPI/AP Newsletter 21-11-2011

joint manifesto on minority rights in south Asia was developed by the participants to identify common issues and priorities on thematic human rights violations in need of attention and action. Please, follow link. 2. Meeting with minister in Brazil marks WCC support for a truth commission On 3th of November, the Rev. Dr Walter Altmann, moderator of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches (WCC), met with the Brazilian minister for human rights, Maria do Rosrio, at her office in Braslia. The main item on the agenda was the support of the WCC for the implementation of a truth commission in the country. Please read more. 3. EVAWG Alliance plans to launch one million signatures campaign This article is about the campaign to build public opinion on condemning, preventing and ending violence against women, the Ending Violence against Women and Girls (EVAWG) Alliance plans to launch one million signatures as a major activity during 16 Days of Activism. The campaign titled Take Action Now!!! Break the Silence to End the Violence against Women and Girls. Please follow link.
