The Ontario Health Insurance Plan entitles Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents to governmentfunded health care. Essential Identification: Driver's License


A valid Ontario drivers license is often required as identification in this province. Individuals 16 years of age or older may apply for a drivers license in Ontario. Requirements for Employment (SIN, PR card)


A Social Insurance Number (SIN) will allow you to work in Canada, and will permit access to government programs and benefits. You can obtain a SIN and SIN card by submitting a form by mail or in person at a Service Canada Centre. http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/sin/apply/how.shtml Permanent residents of Canada receive certain rights and privileges. Benefits include health care coverage, the right to live, work or study anywhere in Canada, and may apply for Canadian citizenship. Transporting your possessions to Canada


Individuals moving permanently to Canada may bring belongings with them, or have belongings transported to Canada at a later date. Belongings listed on the B4 Personal Effects Accounting Document may be imported duty-free. Education
Individuals living in/ Citizens of Ontario are required to attend school (at minimum) between the ages of 6 and 16. The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) serves children from junior Kindergarten to grade 12 (generally ages 4 to 18 the TDSB serves adults as well). In grade 12, students have the option of applying to a university or college program using one of the application services linked below. Individuals who are no longer in school may also apply for a university or college program at the application service links below. All undergraduate university programs can be applied to using the Ontario Universities Application Centre. Applications to college programs should be submitted through the Ontario Colleges Application Service. Bridge Training Programs provide opportunities for newcomers to obtain the necessary license or certificate in their profession or trade, so that newcomers may work in Ontario. Financial services and insurance


The Canadian Centre for Financial Literacy delivers easy-to-use money management training to (among other groups) newcomers to Canada. Employment
The Toronto Public Library provides assistance with resume and cover letter writing. Even if your resume has been updated recently, it may be beneficial to attend a session (these are free of charge) so that you may (very generally) get an idea of what Canadian employers expect or look for in resumes and cover letters.
