Question of: Women's Rights

THE ENERAL ASSEMBLY

Recognizing that civilians, particularly women and children, account for


the majority of those affected by military conflicts in areas of strife, including
as refugees and internally displaced persons, and increasingly targeted by
militants and armed combatants, and recognizing the subsequent impact this
has on durable peace and reconciliation.

oting with grave concern that women's rights development is of


particular concern to economically developing countries as a result of lack of
social awareness empty statement, shouId be rephrased

5ressing the importance of women in the role of preventing conflicts


and the resolution of conflicts and in peace-keeping hat the heII is this,
and stressing the importance of their equal participation and complete
involvement in the maintenance and promotion of global peace and security,
and the need to increase their role in decision-making to lead to global
harmony.

Recalling also the commitments of the Beijing Declaration and Platform
for Action (A/52/231)

Recognizing the need for a mainstream a gender perspective into
peacekeeping operations and in this regard noting the Windhoek Declaration
and the Namibia Plan of Action on Mainstreaming a ender Perspective in
Multidimensional Peace Support Operations (S/2000/693).

Recognizing the need to draft and implement international laws


safeguarding the rights of women and protecting their rights during and after
conflicts.

oting the need to consolidate data on the impact of armed conflict on


women and girls. huh?

1. &rges member states to ensure increased woman representation in all


decision-making levels in national, international and regional institutions using
methods such as but not limited to:
a. Small reservation quotas for women in governmental positions of
Member States of the eneral Assembly.

2. alls upon the United Nations nternational Research and Training nstitute
for the Advancement of Women (UN-NSTRAW) to carry out a study on the
impact of armed conflict on women and girls in active, war afflicted regions,
and further incites the UN-NSTRAW to submit a report to the Security
Council on the results of such a study and to make this available to all
Member States of the United Nations.

3. 5resses its willingness to ensure that all Security Council missions take
into account gender considerations and the rights of women, including
through consultation of local and international women's groups

4. ncourages all members of the eneral Assembly to domestically
propagate the ideas of equity and equality in their respective countries,
acknowledging gender equality in particular, implying equal opportunity for
both sexes

5. ncourages the Secretary-eneral to appoint more women as special


representatives and envoys to pursue good offices on his behalf, calls on
Member States to provide candidates to the Secretary-eneral for
consideration.

6. alls on member states to implement strict penalties for war crimes such as
female mutilation, rape and violence. Penalties can include but are not limited
to:
a. mposing fines on the involved defendant or accused party
b. n extreme cases, implementation of capital punishment or
punishment that the state sees fit

7. alls on member states to implement censorship on forms of pornography


including but not limited to:
a. Hardcore
b. BDSM or any form of rape fetishes
c. Pornography that may promote domestic violence or the abuse of
women in general

8. &rges all Member States to be mindful of cultural sensitivity and religious


orientation

9. &rges all nations to be mindful of national sovereignty

10. ecides to remain actively seized on the matter.
