About the Conference

Concern for resources and energy is a relevant issue for the future. The new technologies in product development are to provide solutions from concept to obsolescence with minimum environmental damage. In this effort, the role of industry and academia is vital and therefore conferences to share knowledge and experience in the field of product development are relevant. PLMSS 2011 is the third in the series of a conference that aims to bring researchers, developers and practitioners from academia and industry together to enable collaboration and knowledge sharing. The first two conferences, PLMSS 2006 and PLMSS 2008

by international (i.e., ISO) and national (e.g., ASME, DIN) standards, GD&T slowly seeped into the industrial draughting practice and has by now gained an unassailable position as the ubiquitous language of communication between the design and the manufacturing functions all around the world. As industry moved to the information age, GD&T also underwent considerable changes to accommodate the computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) practices this evolution continues even today. In this workshop we will introduce a modern framework for understanding GD&T and communicating it to academic and industrial personnel.

PLMSS 2011 Pre Conference Workshop

Workshop on A Modern Introduction to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing By Dr. Vijay Srinivasan Dates : 2-3 December 2011
Organized by

Department of Production Engineering PSG College of Technology Coimbatore - 4, India

Why
Modern CAD systems support three-dimensional presentation and representation of GD&T. Many industrial sectors, led by aerospace and automotive companies, are adopting them for regular design use. Similarly, modern CAM systems routinely make three-dimensional measurements that are automatically processed by sophisticated algorithms to make inference about the manufactured artifacts. In short, we are moving away from two-dimensional draughting for design and hard gauging for inspection at a faster pace than ever before. Therefore, it is imperative to understand these changes in industrial practice and implement them properly to remain competitive. This workshop will provide an introduction to such a modern understanding of GD&T.

This conference is being organized by PSG College of Technology, jointly with ADA, CSIR-NAL, IISc, DRDO and HAL and will be held at PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. Support will be sought from Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Govt. of India, Department of Space, Govt. of India and other Government Departments. PSG College of Technology was founded in the year 1951 by PSG & Sons Charities Trust. The college has been in the vanquard of innovation in technical innovation and over the years has taken giant strides and transformed itself into a prestigious center for advanced studies in several areas of engineering and technology. After sixty years in the forefront of technical education in the country, the institute is celebrating its Diamond jubilee in the year 2011. Department of Production Engineering has hosted seven National Conferences in IT enabled Product Development Strategies in the domain of Product Lifecycle Management.
