Systems Operation

Introduction
The performance monitor is an attachment. It replaces the gauge panel and the brake and low fuel warning lights. This panel monitors system functions as well as provides the operator with information about productivity. In the center of the panel are three LED (light emitting diode) bar graph gauges. These gauges monitor engine coolant temperature, engine oil pressure and engine rpm. On the left side of the panel are lights, which warn the operator of abnormal system conditions concerning transmission oil temperature, hydraulic oil temperature, steering oil temperature, alternator, parking - service brake and low fuel level. For critical functions an audible alarm sounds as an additional warning. On the right side of the panel a digital display shows, engine rpm, power takeoff (PTO) rpm, engine hours, ground speed, percent slip, percent of fuel left, area per hour, distance traveled and total area. NOTE: The term earlier and later will be used in this module. Earlier applies to the 7T1954 monitor with machine serial numbers 7YC1 up to 7YC599. Later applies to the 7X6147 monitor with machine serial numbers 7YC600 and up.

Performance Monitor

Warning LEDs
The six warning LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) at the left side of the monitor panel notify the operator of conditions requiring attention.

Warning LEDs Panel

Three of the warning LEDs indicate over temperature in each of three of the machine's oil systems: transmission oil, steering oil, and hydraulic oil. When an over temperature condition is detected in one of the three oil systems, the warning LED is accompanied by the alarm horn. The horn sounds briefly when the fault occurs, then twice again at 30 second intervals. The warning LED labeled (BRAKE) illuminates when the parking brake is engaged or the service brake booster pressure (accumulator pressure) is low. If the transmission is shifted out of NEUTRAL, when the parking brake is engaged or the booster pressure is low, the alarm sounds continuously. The warning LED labeled (ALTERNATOR), on earlier machines, illuminates when the alternator is not supplying adequate electrical energy (may be none at all) to the machine's electrical system. After starting the engine, the engine rpm must go above 1100 rpm minimum for the alternator to energize or begin to charge. On later machines, the warning LED labeled (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) illuminates when the alternator is not providing adequate energy OR system voltage is too high (above approximately 15.6 volts). After starting the engine, the engine rpm must go above 1100 rpm minimum for the alternator to energize. NOTE: On panels with high voltage warning capability, the system voltage can be displayed. Turn the engine start switch to the ON position and make sure all accessories are turned OFF. Depress the (IMPL WIDTH) keypad and then hold the (% FUEL LEFT) keypad down. The system voltage will be displayed after five seconds and will continue to be displayed until the (%

FUEL LEFT) keypad is released. System voltage is considered too high if it is 15.6 volts or higher. Voltage more than 17.5 volts will be displayed as "OL". The warning LED labeled (FUEL LEVEL) is lighted when approximately 76 liters (20 gallons) of fuel remains. When low fuel is first detected the alarm sounds four times. It then repeats 30 seconds later and again at sixty seconds after low fuel is detected. The fuel level LED remains flashing for approximately five minutes, regardless of the status of the low fuel level sensor. If low fuel level is indicated at the end of the five minute warning, the alarm and light sequence repeats. The alarm is located below the warning LEDs. For critical functions, the alarm is sounded as an additional warning.

Transmission Oil
The transmission oil temperature switch is mounted in the priority valve on top of the transmission case. When the temperature exceeds 124C (252F), the transmission oil temperature (TRANS OIL TEMP) red LED illuminates and an intermittent audible alarm is sounded on the panel. When the temperature descends to 113C (235F), the warning stops.

Steering Oil
The steering oil temperature switch is mounted on the lower right hand corner of the steering oil tank. When the temperature exceeds 82C (180F), the steering oil temperature (STEERING OIL TEMP) red LED illuminates and an intermittent audible alarm is sounded on the panel. When the temperature desends to 74C (165F), the warning stops.

Hydraulic Oil
The implement hydraulic oil temperature switch is located on the lower right corner of the implement hydraulic tank. When the temperature exceeds 102C (215F), the hydraulic oil temperature (HYDRAULIC OIL TEMP) red LED illuminates and an intermittent audible alarm is sounded on the panel. When the temperature descends to 93C (200F), the warning stops.

Brake
The parking brake switch is mounted to the parking brake hand lever in the cab. The parking brake switch is deactivated (open) when the parking brake hand lever is pull up. The accumulator pressure switch is mounted to the base of the accumulator. The accumulator switch is deactivated (open) when the service brake booster pressure drops below 5168 175 kPa (750 25 psi).

Electrical System
The "R" terminal on the alternator causes the (ALTERNATOR) red LED to illuminate when the alternator is not supplying correct electrical energy to the machine electrical system. On later machines, if voltage is to high, the red LED will also be illuminated. When this LED is ON, it usually means there is NO alternator output.

Fuel level
The fuel level float switch is located in the fuel system sump tank. The fuel level float switch functions independently of the % FUEL LEFT measurement and deactivates (open) with low fuel level to illuminate the (FUEL LEVEL) LED.

Bar Graphs
The bar graph panel in the middle of the monitor panel provides a readout of engine oil pressure, coolant temperature and RPM.

Bar Graph Panel

Engine Oil Pressure

Low engine oil pressure is indicated by only red LEDs being illuminated in the (OIL PRESSURE) bar graph and two red LEDs to the left of the oil pressure bar graph area flashing. When low oil pressure is detected, the alarm horn sounds for the duration of the low oil pressure condition. As engine oil pressure increases, more green LEDs are lighted. Absolute minimum safe oil pressure is indicated when one green LED is illuminated. The engine oil pressure sensor is mounted on the left side of the engine, near the flywheel housing.

Engine Coolant Temperature

Normal engine coolant temperature is indicated by green segments illuminated in the (COOLANT TEMP) bar graph. If engine coolant temperature increases beyond the recommended limits, red LEDs to the right of the normal operation area are illuminated and two red LEDs to the right of the collant temperature bar graph flash. When high coolant temperature is first indicated, the alarm will sound four times. It then repeats 30 seconds later and again at sixty seconds. The two red LEDs continue to flash until high coolant temperature is corrected.

The engine coolant temperature sensor is mounted on the left side of the engine towards the top front.

Engine RPM
Engine RPM is displayed on the bar graph labeled (ENGINE RPM). The recommended working engine speed is indicated by the dark green area between the black vertical lines. Excessive engine speed is indicated by yellow LEDs that are progressively illuminated as speed increases. When the maximum recommended engine speed is exceeded, two red warning LEDs to the right of the engine speed bar graph area flash. The maximum recommended engine speed is 2500 rpm. The engine speed sender is mounted on the left side of the engine in the flywheel housing cover.

Multi-Function Display
The keypad area and four digit display at the right side of the monitor panel allows many user selectable displays. The functions are implement width (IMPL WIDTH), distance calibration factor (DISTANCE CAL), ground speed (GROUND SPEED), percent slip (% SLIP), area per hour (AREA PER HOUR), total area (TOTAL AREA), trip distance (TRIP DISTANCE), engine rpm (ENG RPM), percent of fuel left (% FUEL LEFT), engine hours (ENG HRS), power takeoff rpm (PTO RPM), and lamp test (LAMP TEST). When each function is selected, the yellow LED nearest the selected pad is lighted to indicate the selected function.

The unit value that is displayed depends on whether International Measure (Metric) or U.S. Customary (English) mode is selected. The mode is determined by a wiring harness connection located behind the panel. If pin 1 of the four pin plug assembly is connected to pin 2, the panel will be in International Measure mode. If this connection is not made, the panel will be in the U.S. Customary mode.

Performance Monitor Connectors (Later)

The DIGIT SELECT and the DIGIT SET keypads are used to input desired implement width and distance calibration values.

Digit Select
When this pad is depressed once, the first digit from the left on the display flashes. Each time the pad is depressed, the next digit to the right flashes. When a digit is flashing, its value can be changed with the DIGIT SET pad. To store the value on display, depress the DIGIT SELECT pad until no digit is flashing. If the value entered is too large or too small for the function selected, the yellow LED next to the selected function will flash and the value will not be saved.

CHALLENGER 65 7YC00001-01899 (MACHINE)(SEBP1616 - 04)/Bsqueda bs... Pgina 8 de 14

Digit Set
Each time this pad is depressed, the value of the flashing digit will increase one. When the value of the flashing digit is "9", depress the DIGIT SET pad once. This will return the value to "0". The value of the flashing digit will continue to change as long as the DIGIT SET pad is depressed.

Implement Width
The implement width pad (IMPL WIDTH) selects the current implement width. The value is displayed to the nearest tenth of a meter or a tenth of foot. The operator may change the implement width value using the DIGIT SELECT and DIGIT SET pads. The largest permitted values for the implement width is 70.0 meters or 200.0 feet. NOTE: Units do not change from one system of measure to the other when a different mode is selected. If 10 is input in the Metric mode and the mode was changed to English 10 would still be the value.

Distance Calibration Factor

The distance calibrate pad (DISTANCE CAL) selects the distance calibrate function. The distance calibrate factor is a correction factor for variation in ground speed measurement hardware. The minimum and maximum for the distance calibration factor is 135.0 - 165.0 meters for International Measure operation and 450 - 550 feet for U.S. Customary operation. The distance calibration factor may be changed by holding the distance calibration keypad down for five seconds. The value may be entered either directly, using the DIGIT SELECT and DIGIT SET pads, or by following the calibration procedure.

Calibration Procedure
To begin the calibration procedure, measure a 150 meter course, for International Measurement, or use a 500 foot course, for U.S. Customary operation. Place a marker at each end of the course. With the machine 10 meters (33 feet) behind the first marker, hold the DISTANCE CAL pad down for five seconds to get an all zero display. Start the machine in motion. When the machine reaches the first marker, depress the DISTANCE CAL pad once to start the calibration procedure. During the calibration procedure, four dashes will appear on the display. When the machine reaches the second marker depress the DISTANCE CAL pad again. The new distance calibration factor will be displayed and saved. As in the manual entry mode, an invalid distance calibration will not be saved and will cause the yellow distance calibration pad LED to flash. If the distance calibration pad is inadvertently modified, the values 150 for International Measure, or 500 for U.S. Customary may be entered directly, using the DIGIT SELECT and DIGIT SET pads.

Ground Speed
The ground speed pad (GROUND SPEED) selects the ground speed display function. The displayed ground speed is either the track speed, or if a ground speed sensor (radar unit) is present,

mhtml:file://C:\Users\Ruben Hinojosa\Documents\6to\Anlisis y evaluacin de motor... 06/09/2011

CHALLENGER 65 7YC00001-01899 (MACHINE)(SEBP1616 - 04)/Bsqueda bs... Pgina 9 de 14

it is true ground speed. The minimum displayed ground speed is either 1.6 km/h or 1.0 mph. Speed below 1.6 km/h (1.0 mph) results in a zero being displayed.

Percent Slip
Touch and release the percent slip pad (% SLIP) to display the percent of track slippage. This reading is based on the true ground speed compared to track speed. The range of displayed slip value is 0% to 100%. If calculated slip value is negative, a "-0" is displayed. Due to the characteristics of the ground speed sensor, (characteristics necessary for reliable ground speed measurement over varying terrain), the measurement of slip does not begin until the track speed is 1.6 km/h (1.0 mph). If the ground speed sensor (radar unit) is not connected, or is connected but not working properly, "ERR" is displayed while the % SLIP pad is depressed. To calibrate the % SLIP function, run the machine lightly loaded so that no track slip is present. During lightly loaded operation, hold the % SLIP pad down for five seconds. The display will go to zero. This action will calibrate the % SLIP reading to "zero" and compensate for possible mechanical or electrical tolerances in the drive train and monitoring system. NOTE: If the % SLIP pad is held down for five seconds during actual slippage the displayed value will be considered "0" slippage from then on.

Area Per Hour

The are per hour function (AREA PER HOUR) displays the area covered per hour. The units are hectares per hour for International Measure and acres per hour for U.S. Customary operation. Area per hour is the product of ground speed and implement width. If a ground speed sensor (radar unit) is not present, track speed is used in place of ground speed. The area per hour function and the total area function may be disabled in two ways. They can be disabled either automatically, by an implement switch or manually, from the monitor panel itself. If an implement status switch is present and correctly adjusted, the area per hour function will display a flashing "0.0" when the implement is raised. With an implement status switch installed, a raised implement will cause an open in the circuit and the total area function will be disabled. A lowered implement will close the circuit and the total area function will be activated. If an implement status switch is not installed, a shorting plug (connector) must be installed to close the circuit to activate the accumulation of area function. The area per hour and total area functions may be manually disabled by holding down the AREA PER HOUR pad for two seconds. The display will flash "0.0". To reactivate the total hour function and area per hour display, hold the AREA PER HOUR pad down for one second.

Pgina 10 de 14

NOTE: If a power interruption occurs during machine operation, the accumulation of area function will be reactivated automatically, but only after the power is restored, unless the machine is equipped with an implement status switch and the implement is raised. If the machine is not equipped with an implement status switch and the accumulation of area function is not desired, it must be manually disabled again.

Total Area
Depressing the TOTAL AREA pad displays total accumulated area. The units are hectares for International Measure and acres for U.S. Customary operation. It may be cleared by holding down the TOTAL AREA pad for five seconds. When the monitor is powered down, the total area stored may not agree with total area accumulated on the display. Displayed values are stored in memory every .2 hectares or .5 acres. The total area accumulated will stop and then continue when the implement status switch or AREA PER HOUR pad is used to change the status of area accumulation without rounding off any of the accumulated area.

Trip Distance
Depressing the TRIP DISTANCE pad displays total accumulated distance. The units are kilometers for International Measure or miles for U.S. Customary operation. It may be cleared by holding down the TRIP DISTANCE pad for five seconds. Trip distance accumulates regardless of if the implement status switch is open or closed or if the area accumulator is disabled manually.

Engine RPM
Depressing te ENG RPM pad displays engine flywheel rpm. If the machine electrical system is ON without the engine running the alarm will sound. NOTE: The alarm horn may be disabled by holding down the ENG RPM pad for five seconds. This is the only function where the alarm can be disabled. The engine speed sender is mounted on the left side of the engine in the flywheel housing cover.

Percent Of Fuel Left

Depressing the % FUEL LEFT pad displays the percent fuel remaining in the fuel system. For best results, the machine should be parked on a level surface when fuel measurement is taken. The fuel level sensor is mounted under the right side fender skirt in the right rear fuel tank.

Engine Hours
Depressing the ENG HRS pad displays the total number of hours the engine has operated.

Pgina 11 de 14

Power Takeoff RPM

Depressing the PTO RPM pad displays the power takeoff output shaft rpm. When the PTO is disengaged a "0" will be displayed. The power takeoff status switch is mounted at the base of the PTO lever. The status switch indicates to the monitor that the power takeoff is activated or deactivated.

Lamp Test
The lamp test function (LAMP TEST) tests the display's LEDs. Holding down the LAMP TEST pad causes all performance monitor LEDs to flash.

Multi-Function Display Diagnostics

Error Codes
If a fault occurs during operation, one of eight fault codes may be displayed in the four digit display areas on the right side of the performance monitor panel. The displayed error code(s) will alternate with the selected display function. The selected display function will be displayed for 2.5 seconds, then each fault error code will be displayed for 1.0 second. If a fault condition is intermittent it may flash a code erratically.

Harness Codes
The harness code is used to verify the right unit. International Measure or U.S. Customary is to be used if the machine is equipped with a ground speed sensor (radar unit). The harness code also identifies the vehicle model the performance monitor is installed on. To display the harness code, depress the IMPL WIDTH keypad and then depress and hold the GROUND SPEED keypad down. The harness code will be displayed after five seconds.
