Q.No.1. a) b) c) d) Answer any five of the following Questions: List the advantages of electric drives. List the factors on which selection of a drive depends. List the factors responsible for heating of a drive motor. What are the important conditions to be satisfied by the drives to be used in pumps and lifts? e) Write short note on drives used in paper mills. f) Write short note on drives used in textile mills. 5 x 3 = 15

Q.No.2. Answer any two of the following Questions: a) With the help of neat diagram, explain the concept of load torque depending on the angle of displacement of shaft with suitable example. b) Explain the determination of equivalent reffered load torque and moment of inertia for drives having rotational and translational motion. c) In the below shown mechanism, the motor drives the drum through a reduction gear with tooth ratio 0.25. The frictional torque at drum shaft is 15 Nm and at motor shaft is 10 Nm. If the motor speed is 1000 rpm, calculate the equivalent reffered M.I. of the drive as reffered to the motor shaft if gear have efficiency of 85%. Q.No.3. Answer any two of the following Questions: a) With the help of neat diagram and characteristics, explain the dynamic braking employed for DC shunt motor. b) With the help of neat diagram and characteristics, explain AC dynamic braking for a 3-phase induction motor. c) With the help of diagram and speed torque characteristics, explain the speed control method of an induction motor by variable frequency control method. Q.No.4. Answer any two of the following Questions: a) Explain the effects of load inertia. b) Briefly explain the concept of load equalization. How it can be achieved? List advantages of load equalization. c) Write short note on motor enclosures as per IS 4722.
