The poster creates a solemn
presence through the dark colours
used - This perhaps suggests that
the film takes a serious tone to it, in
terms of the story line. The darkness
may also portray fatality amongst
characters and is suggestive of a
`hard hitting lifestyle. Interestingly
the poster has the settings of the
film as the background image which
sets up the scene and the narrative.
O The lighting used is quite dark,
particularly the dull skies above
where "Sam is standing. Conversely
there is a fraction of light where
Trevor is standing, which suggests
that he is more heroic and good in
oppose to Sam who appears to be
shadowed by darkness, reflecting on
his character being quite villainous
and foreshadowed by doom. This
explores the binary oppositions of
good v evil.
ll the characters adhere to the genre of
the film where the characters are supposed
to appear `tough or `hard in order to
convey a true image of a typical teenage
boy living in the hard-hitting streets of
London. This is shown through their serious
facial expressions, body language and their
posture.
The positioning of the characters is
particularly interesting, some are sitting on
a wall and others are standing. This gives
us an insight as to who the main characters
are. Just two of the characters stand and
seem larger and more dominant than the
other characters. The posture and body
language helps to introduce the role and
personality of each character, for example
Claire is sitting crossed legged with her
hand on her chin, this portrays her as a
vulnerable, weak character in contrast to
characters such as Sam who is above her
appears to be quite dominant and
controlling through his body language with
his head held high and the baseball bat
resting behind him.

O t the top, there is a quote from a respected
source with a 5 star rating. This tells the target
audience that the film is worth watching which
would encourage people to go out and see the
film. The position of the rating being at the top
towards the centre of the poster is a good place
in order to attract peoples attention, again
making them want to see it
O The title of the film and institutional
information (production company, actors etc.)
are at the bottom of the poster. The title is big
and bold and in white which goes against the
common theme of darkness throughout the
poster making it stand out, being overpowering,
perhaps parallel to the characters within the film
whom are quite loud and out spoken.
Interestingly there is a small `i in the word
`kidulthood which is perhaps metaphorical for
the teenagers innocence and youth. This
connotes the idea that despite any expectations
of these young people by their peers, no matter
how adult they try to be, they will always be
children. Interestingly the industrial information
is small in order to keep it out of the way of the
images presented on the poster, and not to
distract attention from them.

O The main characters shown in the
poster fall within the demographic age
group. This would make it easy to
appeal to and target a specific audience,
which they have done by aligning the
most important characters on the poster
so the audience can perhaps relate to it
more.
O The characters also help represent the
films genre of Urban Drama; this is due
to the fact that all the male characters
are wearing "hoodies which is typically
associated with teenagers from the
urban societies . Some of the characters
look arrogantly at the camera; such
facial expressions exemplify this `tough
exterior of typical teenagers. This would
help to entice young people as they may
feel they can relate to the film in many
ways.
