MS-Thoroseal FX100 - 05/2005

THIS METHOD STATEMENT COVERS PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF THOROSEAL FX100 ON TO A CONCRETE SUBSTRATE. METHOD STATEMENT : THOROSEAL FX100

1. 1.1. 1.2. 1.3.

GENERAL: The area to be coated shall be marked on the drawings and on the structure. All areas not to be coated, but which may affected by spillage or overspray shall be fully masked. Flora and fauna shall be protected. All deviations from the original Bill of Quantities or scope of works must be agreed in writing with the Engineer before application starts.

2. 2.1. 2.2. 2.3. 2.4 2.5 2.6

PREPARATION: All surfaces shall be free from oil, grease and friable matter and general curing compounds (wax based curing membranes shall not be used in areas to be overcoated). Concrete surfaces shall be cleaned using high pressure water jetting, grit blasting or other methods approved by the Engineer. Arises shall be rounded off and surface protrusions shall be ground down to ensure a smooth substrate. Blow-holes shall be filled using THOROSEAL FX100 at a trowelable consistency, scraped tightly into the surface. The concrete substrate shall be saturated with potable water ensuring no dry areas as visible. All standing water shall be removed from the concrete.

3. 3.1. 3.2. 3.3. 3.4.

TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS: THOROSEAL FX100 shall be used when the ambient temperature is above 5C. In hot weather, areas to be coated shall be shaded from direct sunlight. The liquid should be prevented from freezing. In hot weather, store materials in cool shaded conditions prior to use.

4. 4.1. 4.2.

MIXING: THOROSEAL FX100 shall be mixed in a clean container. The powder shall be added slowly to the stipulated amount of liquid component and utilizing a slow speed drill with a suitable mixing head, mix for a minimum of 2 minutes, until a homogenous lump free consistency is obtained. (See product datasheet for mixing ratios) Allow the mixed material to stand for 5 minutes then remix for 2 minutes, adding liquid or powder as required.

5.

APPLICATION: Note: It is imperative that THOROSEAL FX100 is applied to a damp surface to ensure a firm enduring bond to the substrate.

5.1. 5.2. 5.3.

Application shall be by brush, roller or spray onto the previously prepared damp substrate. A minimum coating thickness of 1mm shall be applied. If subsequent coats are required these shall be applied after the previous coat has become dry.

6. 6.1. 6.2.

CURING: No curing is required. Applied slurry should be shaded or otherwise protected from direct sunlight and windy conditions for a period of 24 hours.

NOTE: Applied THOROSEAL FX100 must be allowed to dry out for a minimum of 7 days before immersion in water. When applied in enclosed areas ensure good ventilation to aid drying out. If applied in enclosed areas with poor ventilation, curing will be delayed.
