Her Lady Parts- Her Jurisdiction Is it alive? Is it human? Does it have rights?

Are some of the questions individuals tend to ask when discussing abortion. This is what brings abortion to being a serious ethical issue. Some people are anti-abortion while others are pro-abortion. Those pro-abortion would say that Life begins and conception. Therefore its wrong to abort a pregnancy and kill a child because they have the right to live. This argument can go on forever but ultimately the decision to abort is up to the pregnant female and should depend upon their situation whether its moral or immoral. With that said abortion should never become illegal for a number of reasons such as rape, unplanned pregnancies, it can alleviate economic or social problems as well as some pregnancies may be a threat to the child itself or the mothers life. Several pregnancies are unplanned and when this happens it causes huge unexpected changes in peoples lives. For example, Ive witnessed and have been friends with individuals who have gotten pregnant about to start their last year in college. College is very time-consuming and requires a lot of time and dedication. Pregnancy is something that requires a lot of time and attention as well. If the proper time and attention isnt given to the child, this then brings up the issue of child neglect. Child neglect is the most prevalent form of child maltreatment in the United States (AHA, 2011). The female has to give time to her and the baby to ensure that both remain healthy and in good condition. Most of all pregnancy is unpredictable and can cause the female to experience sickness, fatigue, bloating, tenderness soreness and many other symptoms that would cause one to miss class, assignment due dates and altogether just fail class. While a baby may be the biggest bundle of joy, its not a good idea while in school unless a person really feels they can handle both. If they dont feel they can, abortion should remain legal so that can be an option.

In an article titled A Defense of Abortion by Judith Jarvis Thomson she argues the morality of abortion. She states abortion may be morally permissible even if these premises are true. One premise she states must be true is rape. Thomson says they can say that persons have a right to life only if they didnt come into existence because of rape. I agree with this statement but feel that rape isnt the only circumstance. But as far as a pregnancy resulting from rape the female should be able to decide whether or not she wants to keep the baby, because there is a life in her or abort the pregnancy. Some pregnancies due to rape bring back unwanted memories which can cause stress on the mother and ultimately affect her child. Thomson brings this issue up as an issue that should be accepted morally, but if it can be accepted morally it should be legally accepted as well. Its understood that everything that is legal isnt always moral, so therefore making abortion legally wrong doesnt make it moral. There were lots of things that were legal in the past. Apartheid was legal in South Africa, but it wasn't moral. It was a violation of a transcendent human rights and ought to have been abolished (Stand to Reason, 2005). Everyone has their own morals and what they think is right and wrong. While everyones morals may not be right to the next person. Whos to say what someone feels is wrong. Making the decision to abort should be by choice and not bound illegal my law. Unfortunately theres abnormalities in pregnancies like Down syndrome, congenital, genetic and other chromosomal problems that may be determined before the baby is born. With things like this the baby isnt able to live a normal life without health struggles. Therefore every pregnancy that occurs theres a possibility that the baby isnt healthy. In these cases the mother may not want her child to live a life where he/she has to suffer. In many cases one may argue that a disorder shouldnt override their right to life. But some conditions are extremely severe

that if they are detected before birth one could justifiably decide to abort. No one deserves to live their entire life suffering, and if the parent is able to decide whether or not their child should live this way before they are born they should legally have this right. Almost as much of a sensitive topic as politics and religion abortion is a huge topic that stirs up controversy between those that are pro-life and pro-choice. The controversy encircles the morality and legality status of the issue. Pro-life individuals say that because a fetus is a person at the time of conception, it is morally wrong to abort a pregnancy. Nevertheless it is also morally and legally wrong to neglect a child as well rap somebody. Therefore, abortion should be legal so that no child is neglected. Unfit mothers should not be forced to have their child when they know they wont take care of them like they should. Rape victims should also not be forced to have a baby they didnt prepare for voluntarily and that will bring back unwanted memories. If unplanned pregnancies, neglect and rape are morally wrong then abortion should be legally accepted.
