Some people say they have no memory at all. But of course we all have a memory. Our memory tells us who we are and helps to make use in the present of what we have learnt in the past. In fact we have different types of memory. For example, our visual memory helps us recall faces and places. Some people have such a strong visual memory. In poor countries, dirty water and lack of adequate food are among the main causes of poor health. Infectious diseases such as Malaria and AIDS are also major problems especially in countries that cannot afford modern drugs and medical equipment. In rich countries, health problems are more often caused by people's life style. Anything that damages the body or how it works, can be called a disease. Some diseases are caused by micro-organisms, germs, others by injury or poisons from the body itself. Nearly all diseases can be treated by modern medicine to some extent. The most common infectious diseases are caused by bacteria and viruses. Bacteria are single - celled organisms that live outside our cells. They multiply in blood fluids and wounds.
