The Future Me
Professional Profile When I graduate I would like to be a database administrator. I am an Information Technology major so these are two of many paths that I could take. I enjoy creating and manipulating databases. A database administrator is normally a basic nine to five job however; project managers do hire DBAs for their projects. Any company that works with a database extensively will have an administrator in house to make sure the database is working properly and can output any reports that are needed by the organization. I researched three job postings and listed the requirements they posted for the position as a Database Administrator at different companies. Virginia Department of Corrections Senior Database Engineer/Database Administrator Richmond Va. The skills that they require include: Logical modeling and Information modeling Extensive experience in a 24x7 heavy OLTP environment Extensive experience with database replication, mirroring and transaction log shipping Experience with performance tuning, real-time caching architectures and database integration Strategic Architecture experience Extensive experience with data warehousing and dimensional modeling Strong SQL Server background

Great organizational skills and ability to work well on a team are soft skills that they are looking for. http://seeker.dice.com/jobsearch/servlet/JobSearch?op=101&dockey=xml/8/7/87eeed2631b3b70 a55a676f4b2eb8f85@endecaindex&c=1&source=34&cmpid=AG:4 Wal-Mart Database Administrator/Engineer Richmond, VA

LinkedIn Professional Profiles John Meaner-SQL Server DBA/Sybase at Hewlett-Packard Under the summary he has his resume. It looks like a scannable resume. One thing I noticed about his resume is that he lists his achievements over education. He has extensive experience. He has worked on 45 projects. Some specific achievements he has includes optimization of search engines, design and build backup validation process as well as database resource planning for European application. His resueme acknowledge his global work experience, which I have not seen in other pages. Another aspect I like about Johns LinkedIn page was his list of different industries that he has experience in. He lists all 45 projects he has worked on. I think that was a little obsessive. He did not include any soft skills on his page this makes me think that he is only a technical person and may not have much people skills. Here is the link to his page. http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=33045225&pid=1822818&authType=name&authToken=ha47& goback=.fps_PBCK_smith_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1_*2_*1_Y_*1_*1_*1_false_6_R_*1_*51_*1_*51_true_ CC%2CN%2CG%2CI%2CPC%2CED%2CL%2CFG%2CTE%2CFA%2CSE%2CP%2CCS%2CF%2CD R_*2_96+4_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2&trk=pbmap Maurice Pelchat- Senior SQL Server DBA and Database Developer at Society CRICS There is not much on his page. But what I liked is that he has a recommendation. This goes along way. When someone can say something good about your work that gives a lasing impression on the readers mind. It helped me to see that is not just a page but an actual working person. His experience includes SQL server and Sybase products, database management, and querying. One soft skill that Maruice includes in his page is that he is a team player as well as a team leader. It says that he is performance driven, highly adaptable and motivated. Technical specialties include SQL (ANSI), Dynamic/Transact SQL as well as Sybase. Other skills not necessary associated with Database is noted on his page as well. These include MS Visual, Java and HTML. Conclusion
The two major strengths that online identity shows are my driven mindset for my career and school. These are seen by the fact that every one of my online accounts has something to do with school or getting a job. I would say that one of my weaknesses is my un-clarity of a specific profession. I have mentioned Information Systems on Facebook, USAjobs and LinkedIn but that is so broad. Also I lack creativity in my online presence. I will enhance these strengths and weaknesses by developing a more detailed profile page for my Facebook, USAjobs and LinkedIn accounts and referencing my other works from other accounts to show my creativity.
