Behavior Management Plan High School Biology

Statement of Purpose:
This classroom will provide a safe, considerate, open and welcoming learning environment where students can achieve their goals, safely express their ideas, and promote their love of biology. Tolerance is the classroom philosophy, each student is expected to accept and respect others, their opinions and ideas, just as they would want to be accepted.

Expectations:
Be in your seat completing the overhead assignment as the bell rings Listen to others when they speak, do not speak out of turn Respect others opinions and ideas, do not belittle others because they do not share you opinion Complete all assignments, labs, quizzes, and exams by their due date Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated Treat all laboratory equipment with respect and follow lab guidelines Always question what you are told! Take your assigned seat o AP students do not have assigned seating and can sit where they choose If there is homework due, place the homework face down on your desk Complete the overhead assignment Do not start packing up until 2 minutes before the end of class Quietly get up from your seat and check the restroom sign out sheet o Only one male and one female may use the restroom at one time Put your name, date, and time on the sign out sheet Remember to take the pass with you Please never interrupt class and ask to use the restroom Read the lab procedure before class and come prepared for lab Always wearing close toed shoes during lab Always wear eye protection and your lab coat Only use lab materials the way they were designed to be used Never play with the lab materials Never eat or drink during lab Always clean and return lab materials to their proper place BE SAFE! Listen to others while they speak Never interrupt another person, student or teacher Respect other peoples opinions and ideas Never belittle another person

Assignment Procedure:
Turn in assignments by their due dates Late assignments will not be accepted without teacher approval o Students must provide a valid explanation concerning the late assignment o Points will be deducted from all late assignments Never work on homework in class (unless there is extra time at the end of class) Praise and recognition Participation points will be awarded daily based on participation and classroom behavior First warning Second warning Detention and zero (0) points for that days assignments o Lab- removal from the classroom and a zero (0) on the lab report Parent conference o Discuss a personal Behavioral Management Plan o Implementation of the BMP Office referral Classroom referral The teachers aid or another student will be sent to the office informing them that there is an emergency regarding a students behavior in the class o If someone cannot be sent, a phone call will be made to the office The misbehaving student will be dismissed into the hallway Other students will continue their work Appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken be the teacher and administration and the incident will be recorded Call 911 immediately-if needed The teachers aid or another student will be sent to the office informing them that there is a medical emergency in the classroom o If this is impossible, a phone call will be made to the office Assist the student in any way possible Keep all other students away for the student in question Inform students of the situation and cooperate with the school nurse and administration in documenting the incident

Plan: Display mission statement, expectations, rules, procedures, positive and negative consequences at the beginning of the year Teaching the plan to students: Discuss the plan on the first day of class and reiterate the plan during the first week of class, have students ask questions about the plan Sharing the plan with parents: Provide parents with a copy of the purpose statement, expectations, rules, procedures, positive and negative consequences and have the parents sign a copy, discuss the plan further during parent-teacher conferences
