GLE 0007.T/E.1 Recognize that both natural materials and human-made tools have specific characteristics that determine their use Instructional Objectives: Check for Understanding 0001.3.4 Create legible documents for reading by the following: forming uppercase/lowercase letters; writing from left to right/top to bottom; and tracing/reproducing letters and words correctly. Check for Understanding 90007.T/E.2 Invent designs for simple products The students will make objects out of LEGOs and write sentences about their objects with the teachers help Materials and Media: LEGOs, whiteboard, dry erase markers, pencil, paper Required Prior Knowledge/Skills: How to build with LEGOs

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES Set (Introduction) (Time): 5 min Build objects out of LEGOs Instruction (Body) (Time): 10 min TTW: Pass out LEGOs to the students

TLW:

Instruct the students to construct an object out of LEGOs Ask the students questions o What did you build? o What does it do? Write down the students answers on the board Read the students answers aloud Instruct students to read along Instruct students to write their answers on their own paper Construct an object out of LEGOs Answer the questions o What did you build? o What does it do? Listen to the teacher read the answers Read the answers with the teacher

Supplemental Activities:

Sentences can be cut up into individual words for the students to work on identifying how the words stand alone Cut up sentences can be mixed up and rearranged to recreate sentences The cloze procedure can be used by leaving out an individual word in sentences and allow the students to put the right word in the blank
