1.THE TASK
2

Design and build a manual robot that can compete in a 'simple' robo-soccer event.

2. PRELIMS
3

Arena :

Figure 1. Sample Arena for Prelims

1) Details : a) ZONE A : The zone where the balls* are kept. b) GOAL: This zone is a shallow pit, where the balls from the zone A have to be dropped into. c) OBSTACLES: The surface of the arena will not be smooth , but it will be considerably flat ( as in a usual playground ). The arena will have obstacles like shallow pits (1), cuboid objects (2) as obstruction and poles (3),etc. 2) Dimensions of the arena and the obstacles would be disclosed only on the day of the event. 3) The arrangement of the obstacles in the picture is merely for illustration purpose. This pattern would not be followed during the event course. *The balls would be similar in size to the standard golf balls. However, the material and size of the ball would be updated soon.

Game play :
1) A infinite resource of balls would be made available at zone A during the course of the game. 2) The bot is expected to collect a maximum of 2 balls at a time from the zone A and drop it into the GOAL. In case more than 2 balls are dislodged from zone A, they would not be counted for points and would be placed back in zone A. 3) The task is to drop as many balls in the GOAL within the given time limit.

Scoring and Qualification :

1) The first round is a test of speed. The bots would be seeded ( For Round 2 ) based on the number of 'goals' scored in the prelims. 2) A maximum time of 4 minutes will be provided in the prelims. 3) In case of a tie, the bots might be expected to either compete against each other in an one-on-one usual robo-soccer event. The rules for the tie event would be declared on the spot.

3.FURTHER ROUNDS (Knock-out)

5

Arena :

Figure 2.Sample arena for the knock-out stage

Details : 1. A sample arena is shown above. As in the prelims, the surface of this arena also would not be smooth. 2. 2 standard golf balls would be used during the match. 3. Apart from the obstacles in the prelims, a rotating wheel might be installed in the arena. 4. All other details regarding dimensions of the obstacles and arena would be revealed on the day of the event. 5. The arrangement of the obstacles in the picture is merely for illustration purpose. This pattern would not be followed during the event course

Game play :
1. Three teams start out from the goals they defend in the above mentioned arena. 2. 2 standard Golf balls would be placed at the centre of the arena at the start of the game. 3. The task in this is to score goals against opponents while defending their own goals. 4. The play continues unstopped until both the balls in the arena are scored. After, both the balls are scored, teams start from their start position with the balls replaced at the centre of arena. 5. As in round one, obstacles would be placed in the arena. Apart from poles, cuboids and pits , spinning wheels capable of pushing ball around when directed into them might be placed. All the wheels in the arena would uniformly be rotating in either clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. 6. In case of a foul*, the player's hands should be off the bot control for 30 sec.

Scoring and Elimination:

1. 3 bots compete against each other in a game of duration 10 minutes. 2. For every goal scored, the team gets +3 points and for every goal conceded, the team gets -1 point. ( Own goals would be considered under conceded goals). 3. If a team scores goals using both the balls ( not necessarily against the same team) in one go, the team gets a +8 instead of a +3+3=+6. 4. In case of a tie, Golden goal situation would be brought in, where the team scoring first in the extra time provided would be declared winners. For this round , only 1 ball would be placed for play. 5. Only one team goes through to the next round from each of this 3-team match. 6. Scoring and time slots for the finals would be announced on the day of the event. However, the arena would remain the same.

*foul -- The bot should not possess any sort of holding mechanisms or provisions to restrict free movement of the ball on both sides on any axis. The ball cannot be held under the chassis for long durations. However, kicking mechanisms could be used. The judgment of foul-play solely lies with the referee, and his decision would be final.

4.RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. The same robot must participate in all the rounds. Violation of this would lead to disqualification. 2. The robot should fit within a box of 30 cm x 30 cm x 60 cm (l x b x h) which will be checked before the event and violation of which will lead to the disqualification of the bot. 3. The potential difference between any two points in the robot should not exceed 12 V and battery must be onboard. 4. The robot is maybe wired or wireless. Wireless robot should possess dual-frequency remotes to prevent frequency clashing. 5. The wires should be at least 5m long and should remain slack throughout the event. All wires from the robot to the control should be from a pole of height suitable enough to avoid entanglement of wires. 6. Robots must not use ready-made mechanisms, Lego kits etc. However readymade gear assemblies can be used. 7. No part of the robot must damage the arena, violation of this could lead to disqualification. 8. If the robot is manually touched during the trial except at the start, then it will be considered as a violation and will lead to penalty. 9. If a particular part of the bot becomes faulty or dismounts, team members other than the operator will be allowed to make adjustments. However, you will be penalized and the timer will continue to run in the meantime. 10. The event is open to all colleges in India and abroad and there is no restriction on the number of teams from any given college. 11. A team must consist of (a maximum of) 4 participants. Students from different educational institutes can form a team. 12. All members of a team must have a valid identity card provided by their institution with them on the day of the event. 13. All participants must be registered to Kurukshetra '12 and should possess their K! ID throughout the event. The event coordinators reserve the right to make modifications to any of the rules if deemed necessary and their decision is any situation is final and binding on all.
