True Prayer

T rue prayer is less about asking and begging for things we are attached to than it is about
relinquishing our attachments to things, persons and possessions. We, in essence, being the
sparks of the Divine Effulgence, ought to pray for illumination of our inner selves with the
sublime glow of divinity –– no storm of hardship or turbulence of ups and downs of life could
ever quaver the flame of our faith in our divine origin as souls.
“…. ‘O’ Lord! Please bless us with courage and wisdom so that we could welcome adversities as
opportunities to refine our qualities and strengthen our potentials. Today’s blows of adversities
should sound as messages of a brighter tomorrow….” –– This would be an ideal prayer to
elevate our zeal and optimism and would protect us from becoming weak or coward.
We have to become intrepid warriors of the Spirit and not frightened fugitives in the battlefield
of life. Our attitude while praying should not be of begging but of ‘offering’ – “Lord, I am here,
use me”.

Dr. Pranav Pandya From Chief Editor's Desk
2006 gave the Gayatri Pariwar a rare and nostalgically memorable parting gift. Our Mahamahim
Rashtrapati, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam came as Chief Guest of honour on the Second Convocation
of Dev Sanskriti Vishwa Vidyalaya (DSVV) on December 09, 2006.The visit was the fulfillment
of a long-cherished aspiration of ours. We felt greatly honoured and blessed by the presence of
this truly great son of Mother India – a rare synthesis of a scientist, a Sufi, a saint and a sage. His
address on the occasion had the depth and sagacity of Acharya – Rishis of ancient Gurukuls. He
heartily commended the unique educational process of DSVV – aiming at a seamless synthesis of
the ageless spiritual wisdom especially as exemplified by the essence of Dev Sanskriti and latest
findings of modern science. The President reiterated his prophesy that by 2020 India is expected
to become the leader of the world – as a Powerhouse of Knowledge (harmonious fusion of
spirituality and science) – if its enormous youth power is holistically and wisely educated and
trained. He was happy to learn that the Founder – Sage of Gayatri Pariwar, Acharya Pandit
Sriram Sharma had put forward this vision of integration of spirituality and science before the
Gayatri Pariwar parijans fifty years back, and that DSVV has been especially established to give
concrete shape to his dreams. Rashtrapatiji exhorted the passing out students to put their talents
and expertise for selfless service of the teeming and suffering masses of the country – always
putting service before self. He also advised them to actively participate in his proposed project
–PURA (Providing Urban facilities in Rural Areas).

The proceedings of the Convocation were conducted with dignity and solemnity in accordance
with the Rishi Tradition. The Chief Guest was all praise for the life-long ‘Sadhana’ of Gurudev
aimed at integration of spiritual and scientific search at all levels of human endeavor – individual,
familial, social, national and international. He asserted that it is on this bedrock that the edifice
of the new integrative ‘Dharma’ of whole of humanity will be built. The President heartily
commended the ‘Divine India Youth Association’ formed by the students / alumni of DSVV and
assured of his guidance in its activities.

The foundation of a state - of- the–art Research Center was also laid in the presence of the Chief
Guest in the DSVV premises for carrying out fundamental research in the fields of Ayurveda,
Yoga, Biotechnology and Genetics.

2006 has been a year of fond memories and great expectations. India is indeed blessed and
fortunate to have as its Head of State a person of Dr. Abdul Kalam’s stature – a pre-eminently
great seer, sage and scientist. This strengthens our hope that our Gurudev’s glorious vision for
humanity is going to be fulfilled not in the too distant future.
