'Azza wajal: "the people (hypocrites) said, "Verily, the people (pagans) have gathered against you (a great army), therefore, fear them" but it (only) increased them in Faith, and they said: "Allah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and he is the best Disposer of affairs" "So they returned with Grace and Bounty from Allah. (may Allahs curse be upon them) on Dar-ul-Hadith of Dammaj and its people (may Allah preserve them) in the year 1432H Seeking Knowledge, Calling to the Path of Allah and Patience
Written by Abu Asma Milhan ibn Haniffa as-Sirilaanki 2
Allah Azza Wajal says: _.] _! `l '_!.l | _!.l . `-,> >l >:>! >: !...,| l! !.,`.> < -. `_,l __ ,l1.! .-., _. < _. l '`..., ",. `-,. . < < : _. ,Ls __ !..| `>l: _.L,:l .> .:,!,l >!>. l> | ,.. _,... __ Those (i.e. believers) unto whom the people (hypocrites) said, "Verily, the people (pagans) have gathered against You (a great army), therefore, fear them." but it (only) increased them In Faith, and they said: "Allh (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs (for us)." So they returned with Grace and Bounty from Allh. no harm touched them; and they followed the good pleasure of Allh. and Allh is the Owner of great Bounty. It is Only Shaitn (Satan) that suggests to You the fear of his Auliy' [supporters and friends (polytheists, disbelievers In the Oneness of Allh and In his Messenger, Muhammad )], so fear them not, but fear Me, if You are (true) believers. (Surah aal-e-Imran: 173 175) Ibn Abbas radiyallahu anhu said: I was riding behind the Prophet sallallahu alahi wasallam, one day when he said, O young boy, Verily Im going to teach you some phrases. Be mindful of Allah, Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, you will find him in front of you. When you ask, ask Allah, when you seek help, seek Allahs help. Know that if the nation were to gather together to benefit you with something, they would not benefit you except with something that Allah has already prescribed for you, and if they were to gather together to harm you with something they would not harm you except with something that Allah has already prescribed against you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried. 1
Know, O Muslim, may Allah have mercy upon you, that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic has already purchased your life and your wealth as in the aayah: | < _.: _. _,...l `.. >. _!, `l .>l _l..1`, _ _,,. < l.1, _l.1`, .s ,ls !1> _ .`.l _,> ,1l _.
1 Reported by at-Tirmidhee rahimahullah, referred to as Saheeh in the Introduction of the treatise Mubadi-ul- Mufeedah fit-Tawheed wal-Fiqh wal-Aqeedah of the Shaikh Yahya al-Hajoorie hafizhahullah. 3
Verily, Allh has purchased of the believers their lives and their properties; for the price that Theirs shall be the Paradise. they fight In Allh's Cause, so they kill (others) and are killed. it is a Promise In Truth which is binding on Him In the Taurt (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) and the Qur'n. and who is truer to his Covenant than Allh? Then rejoice In the bargain which You have concluded. that is the Supreme success. (Surah at-Tawbah: 111) And to Him shall you return as He taala says: _.] :| .,.. ,,.. l! !.| < !.| ,l| `-> __ Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "Truly! to Allh we belong and Truly, to Him we shall return." (Surah al-Baqarah: 156) Read the verses from the speech of your Lord and the ahadith of His Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam so that you may know and understand as He taala commanded us to read: `.!, ,, _.] _l> _l> _.. _. _ls _ ,, ` _ _.] l. l1l!, _ l. _.. !. `l ,-, _ | _.. _-L,l _ :, _.-.`. _ | _|| ,, _->l _ Read! In the Name of Your Lord, who has created (all that exists), Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). Read! and Your Lord is the Most Generous, Who has taught (the writing) by the pen *the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)+, Has taught man that which He knew not. Nay! Verily, man does transgress All bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 4
Because He considers himself self-sufficient. Surely! unto Your Lord is the return. (Surah al-Alaq: 1 8) By Allah, our current situation in Dammaj after 55 days from the start of the blockade on the 23 rd of Dhul Qadah 1432H (20/10/2011) and 40 days from the start of the siege (blockade with attack) on the 8 th of Dhul Hijjah 1432H (04/11/2011) when the first brother was sniped in the head and succumbed to his injury in a few hours on a Friday before the Salat-ul-Jumah; is none other than a test from the Lord of the worlds upon the believers and it was a test from Day one and this is from the sunnah of Allah subhanahu wataala as He taala says: .> '_!.l .`, l1, !.., > `..`, _ .1l !.. _.] _. l, _.l-,l < _.] .. _.l-,l _,,..>l _ Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested. And we indeed tested those who were before them. and Allh will certainly make (it) known (the Truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allh knows All that before putting them to test). (Surah al-Ankaboot: 2 3) _.] _l> ,.l :,>' l,,l _>, _.> ,s > ',-l '-l _ Who has created death and life, that He may test You which of You is best In deed. and He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving; (Surah al-Mulk: 2) >.l,.l _.> l-. _..>.l `>.. _..l l,. _!,> _ And surely, we shall try You till we test those who strive hard (for the Cause of Allh) and the patient ones, and we shall test Your facts (i.e. the one who is a liar, and the one who is truthful). (Surah Muhammad: 31) 5
, `.,.> .. !.l l-, < _.] ..> >.. `l .>`., _. : < .]. _,...l >,l < ,,> !., _l.-. _ Do You think that You shall be left alone while Allh has not yet tested those among You who have striven hard and fought and have not taken Waljah [(Batanah - helpers, advisors and consultants from disbelievers, pagans, etc.) giving openly to them their secrets] besides Allh and his Messenger, and the believers. Allh is Well-Acquainted with what You do. (Surah at-Tawbah: 16) Allah Azza Wajal even made you hear and see so that you may be tested as in the aayah: !.| !.1l> _.. _. L. _!:. ,l.,. ..l-> !-,.. ,., _ Verily, we have created man from Nutfah drops of mixed semen (discharge of man and woman), In order to try him, so we made Him hearer, seer. (Surah al-Insan: 2) It is for Allah the Most High to test you, O slave of Allah, in the manner that He wills, when He wills, where He wills, for how long He wills and as many times as He wills as He taala says: >.l,.l ,`_:, _. .>' _>l _1. _. _. _. ,..l :, _..l __ And Certainly, we shall test You with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sbirin (the patient ones, etc.). (Surah al-Baqarah: 155) And it is also for Him to test you through whom He wills as He said: !.l-> .-, _-,l .. _`.. l ,, ,., _ and we have made some of You as a trial for others: will You have patience? and Your Lord is ever All-Seer (of everything). (Surah al-Furqan: 20) 6
Do not think for a moment that you would be safe from the sharp tongues of those who await such an opportunity to trouble you further and to cast shubuhath (doubts concerning religious matters) at you with their opinions and desires as Allah says: _'l,.l _ l. .. _`-.`..l _. _,.] . ..>l _. l, _. _.] . _: ,. | `.. 1`.. | .l: _. ,s `. __ You shall certainly be tried and tested In Your wealth and properties and In Your personal selves, and You shall certainly hear much that will grieve You from those who received the Scripture before You (Jews and Christians) and from those who ascribe partners to Allh, but if You persevere patiently, and become Al-Muttaqn (the pious - see V.2:2) Then Verily, that will be a determining factor In All affairs, and that is from the great matters, [which You must hold on with All Your efforts+. (Surah aal-e-Imran: 186) So do not grieve O Muslim by what you may be tested and what you hear from people upon your test, for by Allah, this test that we the people in Dammaj, those who have relatives from all parts of Yemen and the world and any Muslim in the whole world who cares for their Muslim brothers or sisters have all been subjected to; is none other than a great blessing from Allah subhananhu wataala and a great opportunity for the one who will be patient as in the Hadith of Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam: On the authority of Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu that the Prohpet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: A believing man and woman are continued to be tested in himself, and his child, and his wealth until he meets Allah and there is not upon him any sin 2
And on the authority of Abu Saeed al-Khudri radiyallahu anhu that when he entered upon the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam during the time of his sickness and questioned him about the people who are the most tested, the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: The Prophets, I said: Then who? He said: Then the Salihoon, verily one of them would be tested with poverty to the extent that he would not find except a cloak that he wraps himself with and verily one of them is pleased with the trial as one of you is pleased with comfort. 3
For by Allah, the most noble of people, the Prophets alaihimussalam were tested and they bore it with patience as Allah Azza Wajal says: .1l ,. _.' _. ,l, . _ls !. ,. : _.> .. !.`.. __
2 Reported by at-Tirmidhee, made hasan by Shaikh Muqbil rahimahullah in his Saheeh-ul-Musnad (1420). 3 Reported by Ibn Majah rahimahullah (Vol 2, Page 1334) and made Hasan by Shaikh Muqbil rahimahullah in his Jami-us-Saheeh (3973) 7
Verily, (many) Messengers were denied before You (O Muhammad ), but with patience they bore the denial, and they were hurt, till Our help reached them, (Surah al-Anaam: 34) So now that we know that it is the right of Allah to test His slaves let us see the hikmah (wisdom) behind it as stated by Allah: _.]! `>!> `>> _. >.,: : _ _l,,. l.. l. .s :!:,. .l>: ..> _> _. !.> `.. !,. _. ..s < < .:..s _`.`> ,.l __ so those who emigrated and were driven out from their homes, and suffered harm In My Cause, and who fought, and were killed (in My Cause), Verily, I will remit from them their evil deeds and admit them into Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise); a reward from Allh, and with Allh is the best of rewards." (Surah aal-e-Imran: 195) He taala also said: , ,.,.> l>.. .>l !.l l-, < _.] ..> >.. l-, _..l __ Do You think that You will enter Paradise before Allh tests those of You who fought (in his Cause) and (also) tests those who are As-Sbirin (the patient ones, etc.)? (Surah aal-e-Imran: 142) Our Lord has clearly stated that He wishes to test the believers so that He may take from them martyrs: ,l. `!`, !l.. _,, _!.l l-,l < _.] `.., .>`., >.. ,.: < > _,,l.Ll _ and so are the days (good and not so good), we give to men by turns, that Allh may test those who believe, and that He may take martyrs from among you. and Allh likes not the Zlimn (polytheists and wrongdoers). (Surah aal-e-Imran: 140) 8
Allahu Akbar!, how merciful is our Lord to say that He would test us in order to forgive our sins, admit us into Jannah and further take martyrs from us so that He may then reward the martyrs immensely from His bounty! O dear Muslim, may Allah have mercy upon you, beware of the one who says that these people in Dammaj are only students and they do not deserve such a test or need to take such a risk with their lives and the likes of these statements since it is not for us to judge or to question the actions of Allah subhanahu wataala since He taala said: `_:`. !.- `_-, > _l:`. __ He cannot be questioned as to what He does, while they will be questioned. (Surah al-Anbiyaa: 23) It is further from the mercy of Allah Azza Wajal that he only tests a soul in accordance to what it can bear as He taala says: l>`, < !.. | !-`.` ___ Allh burdens not a person beyond his scope." (Surah al-Baqarah: 286) By the One in Whose Hands is my soul, He has only tested us with this test well knowing that we the people in Dammaj and all those who are affected by this trial are capable of bearing it since He says: | < l !.,ls !.,>> _ Verily, Allh is ever All-Knowing, All-Wise. (Surah al-Insan: 30) And from His mercy, He has not tested us like He tested the Messengers alaihimussalam and the Salihoon of previous times for Allah has clearly stated in the following aayah and other aayaat to what extent they were tested: :| ',!> _. > _. _`. >.. :| s `.., -l, l1l >!.>l .L. <!, !.`.Ll 9
When they came upon You from above You and from below you, and when the eyes grew wild and the hearts reached to the throats, and You were harbouring doubts about Allh. (Surah al-Ahzab: 10) La ilaaha illallaah, this is the extent to which Allahs Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam and his companions were tested and then Allah further says: ,l!.> _l., _`...l ll` l .,. : There, the believers were tried and shaken with a mighty shaking. (Surah al-Ahzab: 11) And on top of that look to what the munafiqoon (hypocrites) said to them at such a time: :| `_1, 1...l _.] _ ,l "_. !. !..s < .`]. | s _ :| l! !L .. _>!., ,., !1`. _>l `->! `.:.`. _, `.. _,.l l1, | !..`,, :s !. _> :-, | .,`, | _ And when the hypocrites and those In whose hearts is a disease (of doubts) said: "Allh and his Messenger (Sal-Allaahu 'alayhe Wa Sallam) promised us nothing but delusions!" And when a party of them said: "O people of Yathrib (Al-Madinah)! there is no stand (possible) for You (against the enemy attack!) Therefore Go back!" and a band of them ask for permission of the Prophet ( Sal-Allaahu 'alayhe Wa Sallam) saying: "Truly, Our homes lie open (to the enemy)." and they Lay not open. they but wished to flee. (Surah al-Ahzab: 12 13) But see what the believers said under those conditions: !.l , `...l ,> l! ..> !. !..s < .`]. _.. < .`]. !. >: | !...,| !.,l`. __ And when the believers saw AlAhzb (the Confederates), they said: "This is what Allh and his Messenger (Muhammad Sal-Allaahu 'alayhe Wa Sallam) had promised us, and Allh and his Messenger (Muhammad Sal-Allaahu 'alayhe Wa Sallam) had spoken the truth, and it Only added to their faith and to their submissiveness (to Allh). 10
(Surah al-Ahzab: 22) Subhanallah!, I ask Allah subhanahu wataala for firmness for all the believers! He further says in Surah al-Baqarah: `.,.> l>.. .>l !.l >.!, `_.. _.] l> _. >l, `... Yes! Certainly, the help of Allh is near! (Surah al-Baqarah: 214) And the Prophet of Allah Ibrahim alaihissalam was thrown into the fire by the king and people of his time: l! :> .. >.l, | ,.. _,l-. __ They said: "Burn Him and help Your liha (gods), if You will be doing." (Surah al-Anbiyaa: 68) And this is the father of Tawheed, the father of the Prophets alaihimussalam and the Khalil (an intimate friend) of Allah subhanahu wataala and what did Allah command him regarding his son Ismaeel alaihissalam; to slaughter him with his own hands and Im sure every father or mother would know what a test this would have been when Allah said: !. _l, -. _-.l _! _.,., _.| _ _ ,!..l _. ,>: L.! :!. _. _ And, when He (his son) was old enough to walk with him, He said: "O My son! I have seen In a dream that I am slaughtering You (offer You In sacrifice to Allh), so look what You think!" (Surah as-Saffath: 102) and how did that young boy alaihissalam reply: 11
,!., _- !. `.. _..>.. | ,!: < _. _..l _ He said: "O My father! do that which You are commanded, Insh' Allh (if Allh Will), You shall find Me of As-Sbirin (the patient ones, etc.)." (Surah as-Saffath: 102) And the Messenger Musa alaihissalam was commanded by Allah to go to Firaun when Allah said: :| _:!. ,, _.`. . 1l _,.l.Ll s 1`., _! , _.| .l> ,.>`, _ _,., _.. _lL., _.!.l _.! _|| `.> _ > _ls '.: .l>! l.1, _ And (remember) when Your Lord called Msa (Moses) (saying): "Go to the people who are Zlimn (polytheists and wrong-doing), The people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh). will they not fear Allh and become righteous?" He said: "My Lord! Verily, I fear that they will belie Me, "And My breast straitens, and My tongue expresses not well. so send for Hrn (Aaron) (to come along with me). "And they have a charge of crime against Me, and I fear they will kill me." (Surah ash-Shuara: 10 14) It is well known that Firaun was a transgressor who showed no mercy as Allah says: _! `..., .l _, :, >l ..| `,,>l _.] `>.l. `>.l ..l .-. _-L ,>,., _>l`> _. .l> >.,l. _,-.- __ *Fir'aun (Pharaoh)+ said: "You have believed In Him before I give You Leave. surely, He indeed is Your chief, who has taught You magic! so Verily, You shall come to know. Verily, I will cut off Your hands and Your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify You all." (Surah ash-Shuara: 49) 12
Simply for believing in Allah, Firaun said that he will crucify them all; such was the type of tyrant that Musa alaihissalam had to face. I say again, by the One in Whose Hands my soul is, we have not been tested with anything similar and I ask Allah The Lord of the Throne for al-Aafiyah and that He does not test us and the rest of the believers and that He gives us in this World that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good and save us from the torment of the Fire! But know, O Muslim, may Allah have mercy upon you that the call to Allah is a noble deed that all the Messengers alaihimussalam used to do and this is what makes us a superior Ummah as Allah says: .. ,> . >> _!.ll '.!. .`-.l!, _.. _s ..l `... <!,
You *true believers In Islmic Monotheism, and real followers of Prophet Muhammad and his Sunnah (legal ways, etc.)] are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; You Enjoin Al-Ma'rf (i.e. Islmic Monotheism and All that Islm has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and All that Islm has forbidden), and You believe In Allh (Surah aal-e-Imran: 110) and the superiority of the one who calls to the path of Allah is clearly stated in the aayah: _. _.> _.. l.: _|| < _.s !>l.. _! _..| _. _,.l`..l __ And who is better In speech than He who [says: "My Lord is Allh (believes In his Oneness)," and Then stands Straight (acts upon his Order), and] invites (men) to Allh's (Islmic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I am one of the Muslims." (Surah al-Fussilat: 33) and no Messenger was sent in the past except that he was commanded to call to the path of Allah Azza Wajal as He taala says: !. !.l. _. .l, _. _. | _-. ,l| .. .l| | !. .,s! __ And we did not send any Messenger before You (O Muhammad ) but we inspired Him (saying): L ilha illa Ana [none has the Right to be worshipped but I (Allh)], so Worship Me (Alone and none else)." (Surah al-Anbiyaa: 25) and this is something that the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam was commanded with: 13
_: _|| _,,. ,, .>>'!, Ls.l ..>' l..> _.l!, _> _.> | ,`, > `ls _., _. _s .,,. > `ls _...l!, __ Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of Your Lord (i.e. Islm) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'n) and fair preaching, and argue with them In a Way that is better. Truly, Your Lord knows best who has gone astray from his path, and He is the best Aware of those who are guided. (Surah an-Nahl: 125) and this is also applicable to each and every one of us as Allah says: _ .:..> _l,,. `s: _|| < _ls :,., !. _. _.-,. _.>,. < !. !. _. _,:.l _ Say (O Muhammad ): "This is My Way; I invite unto Allh (i.e. to the Oneness of Allh - Islmic Monotheism) with sure knowledge, I and Whosoever follows Me (also must invite others to Allh i.e to the Oneness of Allh - Islmic Monotheism) with sure knowledge. and glorified and Exalted be Allh (above All that they associate as partners with Him). and I am not of the Mushrikn (polytheists, pagans, idolaters and disbelievers In the Oneness of Allh; those who Worship others along with Allh or set up rivals or partners to Allh)." (Surah Yusuf:108) and calling to the path of Allah is upon sure knowledge as seen in the aayah above and this knowledge is to be sought, as stated by Allah subhanahu wataala: `l.! .. .l| | < -.`. .,..] _ So know (O Muhammad Sal-Allaahu 'alayhe Wa Sallam) that L ilha ill-Allh (none has the Right to be worshipped but Allh), and ask Forgiveness for Your sin, (Surah Muhammad: 19) As it is clearly seen above Allah gave precedence to knowledge prior to action; as learning that none has the right to be worshiped except Allah alone; is knowledge which one learns and then believes in prior to seeking Allahs forgiveness which is an action based on that knowledge. Imam Bukhari 14
rahimahullah made a chapter heading titled: Chapter The knowledge is prior to sayings and action 4
It is not for us to think for a moment that the creation of Dunya, the Jinn, mankind and all other created beings are in vain as Allah warned us of this in His blessed Book: `.,.> !.. >..1l> !.,s >. !.,l| `->. _ "Did You think that we had created You In play (without any purpose), and that You would not be brought back to us?" (Surah al-Muminoon: 115) but rather Allah created the Jinn and mankind for a great purpose which is ONLY to worship Him alone without ascribing partners to Him as in the aayah: !. 1l> _>' _. | .,-,l __ And I (Allh) created not the jinns and humans except they should Worship Me (Alone). (Surah adh-Dhariyaat: 56) In the above aayah Allah did not say that the Jinn and the mankind should worship Me (Allah), but rather He said that He created them for no other purpose other than to worship since He taala first negated and then affirmed the sole purpose and this is a well-known principle amongst the scholars. Imam Ibn Katheer rahimahullah said in the tafsir of this aayah: i.e. I only created them in order to command them with my worship not for any need of mine towards them 5
This is also affirmed by the following aayat in Surah al-Asr below: | _.. _.l .> _ | _.] `.., l.s .>l..l .. _>l!, .. .l!, _ Verily! man is In loss, Except those who believe (in Islmic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the Truth (i.e. order one another to perform All kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma'rf) which Allh has ordained, and abstain from All kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar) which
4 Saheeh-ul-Bukhari, Book of knowledge. 5 Tafsir-ul-Quran al-Azheem (Dar Alam-il-Kutub, Vol 13/ Page 222) 15
Allh has forbidden), and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter In Allh's Cause during preaching his Religion of Islmic Monotheism or Jihd, etc.). (Surah al-Asr: 2 3) Although Allah did not create us and all of His creations in vain, the life of Dunya itself has been created as a play and deceiving enjoyment as He said: .ls !.. :,>l !,..l '-l > ., >!. >., ".l>. _ _. ..l _:. ,s >s !>l ..!,. . _, .. `.`. . `>, !..L`> _ :> ',.s .,.: :-. _. < . !. :,>l !,..] | _... `-l _ Know that the life of This world is Only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry In respect of wealth and children, as the likeness of vegetation after rain, thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and You see it turning yellow; Then it becomes straw. but In the Hereafter (there is) a Severe torment (for the disbelievers, evil-doers), and (there is) Forgiveness from Allh and (His) good pleasure (for the believers, good-doers), whereas the life of This world is Only a deceiving enjoyment. (Surah al-Hadid: 20) So, from the Hikmah of Allah, He created us for a great purpose of worshipping Him alone and placed us in this Dunya which is a place of play and deceiving enjoyment as a great test for us to reach our real life in the Hereafter as in the hadith of Anas radiyallahu anhu that the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: O Allah, there is no life but the life of the Hereafter 6
As such it is of great importance that the Muslim exercises extreme caution in pursuing his ultimate goal of his life which is the Hereafter in which he hopes to see the Face of his Creator, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and neither be entangled in the traps of Dunya nor be distracted by its beauty and deceptions which would cause great harm to his life of the Hereafter and the Muslim should always fear the Day of Judgement as it is a great Day on which day none would help you as Allah says:
6 Reported by Bukhari and Muslim, refer Riyad-us-Saaliheen (Eng. Trans. Vol. 1/ Page 429/ No. 460). 16
!,!., '_!.l 1. `, _| ]l s!.l ',`_: ',Ls , !.. `_>.. _ -.`. !.s -. _.. _ ,: _.> !l.- _. _!.l _.>. !. > _.>., _>.l .s < .,.: _ O mankind! fear Your Lord and be dutiful to him! Verily, the earthquake of the Hour (of Judgement) is a terrible thing. The Day You shall see it, Every nursing mother will forget her nursling, and Every pregnant one will drop her load, and You shall see mankind as In a drunken state, yet they will not be drunken, but Severe will be the torment of Allh. (Surah al-Hajj: 1 2) A Day on which each soul would run from the other: :| ,,l> >!.l __ , , ',. _. ,> __ .. ,, __ ..,>.. ,., __ _>l _. .. .., !: ,.-`, __ Then, when there comes As-Skhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), That Day shall a man flee from his brother, And from his mother and his father, And from his wife and his children. Everyman, that day, will have enough to make Him careless of others. (Surah Abasa: 33 37) So, all those who do not believe and worship Allah in the manner He has instructed us to do so are in dire loss and we seek refuge from this loss and ask Allah Azza Wajal for al-Aafiyah in the Dunya and Aakhirah! So know O Muslim that seeking this knowledge of the Quran and the Sunnah of the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam is one of the greatest Ibadah that is obligatory upon every Muslim as in the hadith of Anas ibn Malik radiyallahu anhu that the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: 17
Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim) 7
so that he knows how to believe in His Lord, how to worship Him upon Tawheed and hold onto to the Sunnah of the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam upon the understanding of the Salaf-us- Saalih (pious predecessors), keep away from shirk, innovations and all that opposes the methodology of the Salaf-us-Saalih, knows what pleases and displeases his Lord so that he does what Allah has commanded him to do and keeps away from all that Allah has forbidden so as to avoid His wrath. How many people claim to know the basics of knowledge and say that what is beyond is not obligatory but they do not even know the basics of shirk. How would one save himself and keep away from shirk if he does not know what shirk is, what are the types of shirk, so on and so forth; for I have personally met people who when I warned them of shirk they responded by saying that they do not do shirk and they are aware but I found around their necks and the necks of their children talismans and the hadith of Ibn Masood radiyallahu anhu below is self-sufficient explanation regarding at-tamaaim (talismans and the likes of them) where he said that he heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam say (the meaning of the hadith): Ar-Ruqi 8 (spells and incantations), at-tamaaim (which are made from beads and such like and are hung around the necks of children) and at-tiwalah (which is a spell made to cause a husband to love his wife, or a wife to love her husband) are all forms of shirk. 9
Such is the state of the son of Adam alaihissalam who is ignorant but does not know that he is ignorant except those whom Allah saves with His mercy. Further know O Muslim, that this knowledge is sought and traveled for as in the hadith of Abu Darda radiyallahu anhu when a man from Madinah traveled to him (Abu Darda) while he was in Damascus so he said to him: What made you come forth O my brother? and he (the man who traveled) said: A hadith has reached me that you narrate it from the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam. He said: Did you not come forth for any trade? He said: No. He said: Did you not come forth for any need? He said: No. He said: You did not come forth except seeking this hadith? He said: Yes. He said: For verily I have heard the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam saying: Whoever treads a path seeking in it knowledge, Allah will tread for him a path to Jannah and verily the angels lay their wings for the seeker of knowledge being pleased and verily for the scholar all those in the heavens and the earth seek forgiveness including the fish in the sea 10
This is the case of a man travelling from Madinah to Damascus during the time of the Companions ridwanullahi alaihim ajmaeen with whatever the travel facilities that they may have had at the time, for the sole purpose of obtaining ONE SINGLE HADITH! Today, O dear Muslim, a mere one hundred US Dollars will buy for you the best print of Fath-al-Baari (the explanation of the whole of Saheeh-al-Bukhari which holds more than seven thousand ahadith with repeated narrations)! What

excuse would we have in front of Allah subhanahu wataala for not travelling to where the scholars are and striving to seek this noble knowledge? Wallahul Mustaaan! Seeking this knowledge of the Quran and the Sunnah upon the Manhaj (methodology) of the Salaf- us-Saalih is what we do here in Dammaj. For those who do not know of Dammaj, the following is a brief insight into Dar-ul-Hadith of Dammaj: The dawah in Dammaj was started by Shaikh Muqbil rahimahullah around 30 years ago and is now run under the supervision of Shaikh Abu Abdurrahman Yahya al-Hajoorie hafizhahullah, who studied under Shaikh Muqbil for around seventeen years (as I was informed by Shaikh Abdul Hameed al- Hajoorie hafizhahullah), who was appointed to run the institute as per the wasiyyah of Shaikh Muqbil rahimahullah himself. Shaikh Yahya takes three lesson every day after Zhuhr, Asr and between Maghrib and Isha except on Fridays where there is no dars after Jumah. That makes the number of duroos (lessons) that he takes in a week to twenty duroos and all of these duroos are compulsory upon all except the women, small children and those who have a valid excuse such as a sickness, an urgent need or the likes of them. The books taught by Shaikh Yahya are: After Luhr - Tafsir ibn Katheer (Tafsir of the Quran) of the Imam Abul Fida Ismaeel ibn Katheer ad-Dimashqi rahimahullah (every other day, three days a week)
- Jami-us-Saheeh mimma laisa fis-Saheehain (The Authentic Collection from other than the two Sahihs) of the Shaikh Abu Abdurrahman Muqbil ibn Hadi al-Wadiee rahimahullah (every other day, three days a week)
After Asr - Fath-ul-Baari (Explanation of Saheeh-ul-Bukhari) of the Hafizh Ahmed ibn Ali ibn Hajr al-Asqalani rahimahullah (every day)
After Maghrib - Questions and answers (every day)
- Sharh Saheeh Muslim (Explanation of Saheeh Muslim) by the Imam Muhyuddeen an-Nawawi rahimahullah (every day)
- Jami Bayan-ulIlm wa Fadlih (The Collection of hadith and narrations concerning knowledge and its virtues) by the Allamah Abu Umar Yusuf ibn Abd-al-Barr rahimahullah (every day)
- Al-Hittah fi Dhikr as-Sihah as Sittah (A book in learning the terminologies and the science of hadith) of the Imam Siddeq Hasan Khan rahimahullah. Tafsir ibn Katheer, Jami-us-Saheeh, Fath-ul-Baari (Explanation of Saheeh-ul-Bukhari) and Sharh Saheeh Muslim (Explantion of Saheeh Muslim) are continued and repeated when they finish so they are always taught throughout the year, Alhamdulillah. 19
My dear brother in Islam, I have been here almost ten months by the grace of Allah, which is around three hundred days making the number of lessons of Shaikh Yahya hafizhahullah, more than eight hundred in number during this period of my presence and by Allah, I have not seen the Shaikh miss even one single dars, he held all the duroos during this period except on two occasions where the shaikh was not absent but the dars was skipped, once during the last Ramadhan on the night of the 27 th night, when the salat-ul-qiyam was started immediately after the sunnah after Isha (during ramadhan, the dars is usually held after Isha instead of between maghrib and Isha) starting at around 8pm and continued till around half an hour before fajr around 4:15am in which the Shaikh himself led four rakaat and the witr reciting in them five Juz (chapters of the Quran) and Shaikh Ahmed-al-Wusabi hafizhahullah (the Imam of the masjid) led four rakaat reciting in them another five Juz taking the total to ten Juz. Secondly on the 15 th night of Muharram of this year where there was a lunar eclipse and the eclipse prayer was held between Maghrib and Isha and Isha was held afterwards. Although on certain days the Shaikh may choose to have a Muhadarah (lecture) instead of the lesson during its time when he sees the necessity for it. Further, during this period of 10 months I have witnessed one Ramadhan, two Eids, two floods, rainy days, days when the Shaikh had visitors from outside Yemen and outside of Dammaj, over 30 days of sniping but never have I witnessed the Shaikh miss a single dars; for those who do not know, Shaikh Yahya hafizhahullah is married with four wives and around twenty children may Allah preserve them all! Apart from these duroos of the Shaikh, there are over fifty duroos held daily, during normal days, by multiple teachers in the fields of but not limited to: Aqeedah Tafsir Fiqh Hadith Sciences of Quran, Hadith and Fiqh Arabic Language Almost daily there are new duroos which are opened based on the requirements of the new arrivals and existing students progress, etc. Most of the these duroos, except for the Shaikhs duroos, are not held these days due to the attacks! Shaikh Abdul Hameed al-Hajoorie hafizhahullah informed me that the number of students who pray in the markaz and attend the duroos of Shaikh Yahya are around four thousand on normal days, these days due to sniping attacks the number of students who attend the duroos of the Shaikh are around two thousand since some of the students pray in masajid close to their homes and avoid exposure by coming to the markaz, especially those who live in neighbourhoods that a little far from the markaz and those who live in parts of the mountains. The brother Muhammad as-Sanaani who is one of the librarians informed me that the main library of the markaz holds over fifty thousand books. When I asked Shaikh Muhammad ibn Hizam hafizhahullah, about the number of students who have finished memorizing the Quran from those students who are currently in Dammaj, he said that they 20
would be a number over five hundred approximately (there is no record of this as such since there are no certificates issued to students and there is no need for such a thing in the Sunnah) and the number of students who have memorized either the two Sahihs (Bukhari and Muslim) or one of them would be a number in excess of a hundred, of course these are students who have already memorized the Quran. Walking into the masjid, at any given time, one would see hundreds of students either memorizing the Quran, ahadith, various books, etc or attending duroos or teaching them apart from the others who you would always find in the library researching various books and authoring books and treatises. All of this of course are from the blessings of Allah subhanahu wataala and to Him alone is all Praise! In the month of Ramadhan, all classes of the Shaikh Yahya hafizhahullah are held every day as normal except for the class between Maghrib and Isha is shifted to after Isha. Salat-ul-Qiyam begins at 12:30am daily and goes on till around 3:30am. Four rakaat led by Shaikh Ahmed (the Imam of the masjid) reciting one Juz and the other four and witr led by the Shaikh Yahya reciting another one Juz and this goes on every night till the twentieth night. During the last ten nights the recitation is made longer and the prayer is brought forward to start early reciting anything between five Juz to ten Juz depending on whether or not its an odd night. There are no restrictions or conditions of admission pertaining to those who study in Dar-ul-Hadith of Dammaj except that the student should be a salafi (one who follows the Quran and the Sunnah of the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam according to the understanding of the Sahabah ridwanullahi alahim ajmaeen and those who followed them in their footsteps rahimahumullah) and that he be a disciplined student. I have personally had colleagues in my classes who are half my age and those who also come with walking sticks and grey haired beards dyed with henna. Any sunnah of the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam is allowed to be practiced in the markaz as long as it is proven to be authentic. The students are encouraged to pray in their footwear in the markaz and many of them pray in them after checking and cleaning them of course as emphasized in the hadith of Shaddad ibn Aws radiyallahu anhu that the Prophet salllallahu alaihi wasallam said: Pray in your Niaal (shoes) and do not imitate the Jews 11 . In the last Ramadhan, one of the students wrote a note to Shaikh Yahya hafizhahullah during the dars requesting that we implement the Sunnah of praying all eight rakaat of qiyam with one tasleem (salam), the Shaikh responded by saying that as long as it is the sunnah we are happy to do it and it was done so in the same night as in the hadith of Aaishah radiyallahu anha where she said: so he prayed eight rakaaat reciting in them the Umm-al-Kitab (al-Fatihah) and a surah from the Quran and what Allah willed and he does not sit in any of it until he sits in the eighth rakah and would not make tasleem and would recite in the ninth and he would make a single strong tasleem and then he prays two rakaat then he recites Umm-al-Kitab whilst sitting and makes rukoo whilst sitting and after making sujood and completing the rakaat then he recites in the
11 Reported by at-Tabaraani (Vol. 7, Page 348), refer the treatise titled Sharaiyyat-as-Salah fin-Niaal (The legislation of prayer in slippers) by Shaikh Muqbil rahimahullah. 21
second rakah and then he makes rukoo and sujood whilst he is sitting and then makes tasleem and ends the prayer 12 . Also, one of the nights, Shaikh Ahmed (the Imam) led the Maghrib prayer by reciting Surah al-Araf in full (which is close to one and half Juz) in the first two rakaat as it was established from the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam from the hadith of Aaishah radiyallahu anha that the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam recited in the Salat-ul-Maghrib Surah al-Araf and he recited it in two Rakaat. 13
and by the time we finished it was time for Isha salat but Shaikh Yahya still had his dars that night after which we prayed Isha. There are over eight thousand students during normal days (according to what I was informed by Shaikh Abdul Hameed) including children, women and bachelors in Dammaj, but normally you would not see one miskeen or faqeer begging on the streets neither during normal days nor during the period of blockade during which no food came through. There is no place in the whole of Dammaj where the men mix with the women and the men do not enter shops that are specific for women or at times specific for women. Non-mahram men do not walk together with women on the streets. You would not normally see a woman with her eyes open let alone her face open on the streets! Close to a thousand houses or more belonging to the students; there is not a single house that has a TV in it let alone satellite dishes! Wallaahu alam. The markaz provides an allowance for each married student every month and certain other dry food provided they get some money from good-doers. It also provides three meals to around two to three thousand bachelor students, as per Shaikh Abdul Hameed, (the numbers vary from time to time depending on those who go back to their hometowns and for Dawah, etc). Additionally it also runs the costs of the markaz and provides free water to all the students and houses! The point of attention, baarakallah feekum, being that all of this is without any kind of requests for support or donations neither verbally nor through websites nor any other means. Those who know about the markaz and the Dawah and who wish to help the good come forth on their own and do so for the sake of Allah. Bottom line, Allah provides for them all since seeking knowledge is a means of being provided rizq by Allah subhanahu wataala as in the hadith of Anas ibn Malik radiyallahu anhu that: There were two brothers during the lifetime of the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam and one of them used to come to the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam whilst the other used to work and so the one who used to work complained of his brother to the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and so he said: Perhaps you would be provided rizq because of him (your brother). 14
12 Reported by Abu Dawood, authenticated by Shaikh al-Albaani rahimahullah in his Saheeh wa Daeef Abu Dawood (1346). 13 Reported by Nasaee and Abu Dawood rahimahumullah and authenticated by Shaikh al-Albaani rahimahullah (991). 14 Sunan at-Tirmidhee, authenticated by Shaikh Muqbil rahimahullah in his Saheeh al-Musnad (Vol. 1, No. 26) and Shaikh al-Albaani rahimahullah in his Saheehah (2769) 22
So if the one who used to work, would be provided on account of his brother who used to come to the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam to seek knowledge, then what about all of these students of knowledge in Dammaj being provided their rizq by Allah; is there any doubt whatsoever? Further, the markaz has no legally registered body with any governmental institution nor does it even have a single bank account. So the worlds largest Salafi university, built upon the correct Sunnah of the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam without any innovations or false creeds upon the Manhaj (methodology) of the Salaf-as-Saalih, holding over eight thousand students having no entry criteria, no registration, no bank accounts, no requests for support or donations, no certificates issued to students who complete books, no examinations, no rules saying that only those who pass a stage can study another book, no set compulsory syllabuses that need to be followed; does all of this seems a bit too hard to believe? Well, by Allah, this is the truth. The students who study here are simply prepared for the examinations that every soul will have in his or her grave! The number of students, families, etc are all approximate figures and were only stated in order to mention the goodness that Allah subhanahu wataala has bestowed upon this blessed Dar which the enemies of Islaam are trying to cease and destroy and all praise is only due to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. So this is the place and it is this Dawah, call to Allah, that the Rawafid wish to damage; a place free from shirk and Bidah, a whole village and NOT one kafir amongst us, free of idols and temples and grave worship, free of banks, music, TV, cinemas and the likes of them. A place that only has qala Allah (Allah said, i.e. The Quran) and qala ar-Rasool (The Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam said, i.e. The Sunnah) upon the Manhaj of the Salaf-as-Saalih and worship of Allah subhanahu wataala. A Muslim would think twice about leaving this place at normal times let alone flee from here at a time of its greatest need against this filthy enemy of Allah, Islam, the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam, Jibreel alaihissalam, the Companions ridwanullahi alaihim ajmaeen and the believers! What is wrong with mankind? Do we not read the command of Allah subhanahu wataala where He said: .!-. _ls l _1`.l .!-. _ls . .`-l 1. < | < .,.: ,!1-l _ help You one another In Al-Birr and At-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another In sin and transgression. and fear Allh. Verily, Allh is Severe In punishment. (Surah al-Maidah: 2) Where exactly would be the cooperation in helping one another in al-Birr (righteousness) and at- Taqwah (piety), by deserting this noble place at its time of its need? O slave of Allah, may Allah 23
preserve you, fear Allah as Allah is all-Hearer and all-Seer, he is questioned not but rather questions our actions and nothing goes unrecorded as He taala says: _. _.-, _!1.. :: ,> .:, _ _. _.-, _!1.. :: : .:, _ So Whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it. Say: "Who is He who can protect You from Allh if He intends to harm you, or intends Mercy on you?" and they will not find, besides Allh, for themselves any Wal (Protector, Supporter, etc.) or any helper. Allh already knows those among You who keep back (men) from fighting In Allh's Cause, and those who Say to their brethren "Come here towards us," while they (themselves) come not to the battle except a little. (Surah an-Nisaa: 78) But rather say what Allah commanded Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam to say: _ | _.. _>. _!,>: _.!.. < , _,..-l __ Say (O Muhammad ): "Verily, My Salt (prayer), My sacrifice, My living, and My dying are for Allh, the Lord of the 'Alamn (mankind, jinns and All that exists). (Surah anl-Anaam:162) Know, that when Allah has bestowed this noble Ilm (knowledge) upon you and you have acted upon it, then you call mankind to it and this has been explained well by the Allamah Shaikh al-Uthaymeen who said: So when a person knows the One Whom he has to worship, and knows his Prophet and his religion and Allah has favoured him with that and guided him to it, then he should strive to save his brothers by calling them to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic 15 End Quote. Know O brother in Islam, that this call is a noble call and its virtues are many as in the hadith of Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam on the authority of Ali ibn Abee Taalib radiyallahu anhu on the Day of Khaibar that he sallallahu alaihi wasallam told to him: Proceed without hurrying until you reach territory, then call them to Islam and inform them of the rights of Allah, the Most High, binding upon them; for by Allah it is better for you that Allah should guide a single man through you than red camels. 16
and on the authority of Abu Saeed an-Ansari radiyallahu anhu that the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: Whoever guides to some good deed, then he receives a reward like that of its doer 17
The scholars are inheritors of the Prophets alaihimussalam as in the hadith of Abu Darda radiyallahu anhu in which the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: verily the scholars are inheritors of the Prophets and they did not bequeth (leave as inheritance) Dinar or Dirham but rather bequeth knowledge 18

The path of seeking knowledge and calling to the path of Allah the Mighty and Majestic upon truthfulness is a path bound to face annoyance and ill-treatment. So it is upon the one who is on this path to be patient as explained by Shaikh Uthaymeen rahimahullah: The more severe the annoyance becomes the nearer is Allahs aid. It is not the case that Allahs aid is only that a person is aided in his lifetime and sees that his Dawah has produced positive results, rather this aid may come after his death such that Allah causes the peoples hearts to accept what he called to, so that they follow it and adhere to it. This is also counted as being help and a grant of victory from Allah, even though its after his death. So the caller should patiently preserve in his call and continue upon it patiently preserving upon the Religion of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, which he calls to having patience in facing whatever annoyance he encounters. Indeed the messengers faced annoyance and were hurt from the words and the actions of the people, Allah the Most High says: ,l. !. _. _.] _. l, _. _. | l! '>!. `.>: __ Likewise, no Messenger came to those before them, but they said: "A sorcerer or a madman!" (Surah adh-Dhariyat: 52) ,l. !.l-> _>l _,. .s _. _,.>.l _. ,,, !,:!> ,.. _ Thus have we made for Every Prophet an enemy among the Mujrimn (disbelievers, polytheists, criminals, etc.). but Sufficient is Your Lord as a Guide and helper. (Surah al-Furqan: 31) But the caller should face this with patient perseverance. See the saying the of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, to His Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam: !.| _> !.l. ,,ls ,1l ,.. __ Verily! it is we who have sent down the Qur'n to You (O Muhammad Sal-Allaahu 'alayhe Wa Sallam) by stages. (Surah al-Insan: 23) It might be expected for this aayah to be followed by an order to give thanks and favours of your Lord, but rather Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said after it:
18
18 Musnad Ahmed, made Hasan li ghairihi by Shaikh al-Albaani rahimahullah in his Saheeh at-Targheeb wat- Tarheeb (No. 70). 26
.! _>>l ,, _L. .. !.., __ Therefore be patient (O Muhammad Sal-Allaahu 'alayhe Wa Sallam) and submit to the command of Your Lord (Allh, by doing Your duty to Him and by conveying his message to mankind), and obey neither a sinner nor a disbeliever among them. This contains an indication that everyone who stands with this Quran must certainly face that which requests him to have patience and perseverance. Also consider the example of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam when his people struck him and caused blood to flow from him. As he was wiping away the blood from his face he was saying: O Allah, forgive my people for they do not know *Reported by al-Bukhari (Eng. Trans. 4/454/No: 683)]. The caller should have patience and perseverance hoping for Allahs reward. Patience (sabr) is of three kinds: 1. Patience upon obedience to Allah. 2. Patience upon avoiding that which Allah has forbidden. 3. Patience with regards to the decrees of Allah which He puts into effect; both those which the servants have no control over at all, and also those pertaining to the annoyance and transgression which Allah brings about by the hands of some of the people. 19
End Quote. Shaikh Uthaymeen rahimahullah also quoted from Imam Ibn al-Qayyim rahimahullah: Striving against ones own self (Jihad-un-Nafs) is four levels: 1. That he strives upon learning the guidance and the true Religion, which is such that there can be no success or bliss for the soul in this life or in the Hereafter except through it; 2. That he strives to act upon what he has learned; 3. That he strives to call to it, and to teach it to those who do not know it; 4. That he accustoms his soul to having patience and perseverance upon the hardships involved in calling to Allah and the harm caused by the people, and he patiently bears this for Allahs sake. So if a person completes these four stages then he becomes one of the rightly guided and wise scholars and teachers (ar-Rabbaaniyyoon) 20 End Quote. As it has been clearly detailed above with the evidences from the Quran and ahadeeth of the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam and the statements of the scholars, the one who treads the path of the Prophets alahimussalam in seeking knowledge and calling the people to the path of Allah is a path bound to encounter annoyance, harassment, hurt, belittlement, rejection and various types of ill-treatment from the people which has to be bourne which patience by the caller until the help of Allah arrives for surely it will come as Allah says:

| `. < ', __ Yes! Certainly, the help of Allh is near! (Surah al-Baqarah: 214) It is upon this caller to bear in mind that he should be steadfast in his call and patience regardless of the type of annoyance or its severity that befalls him. It is worthy to note that impatience is not from the characteristics of the Believers and Allah criticized impatience as in the aayah: | _.. _l> l.l > _ :| .. :l !s'> _ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; (Surah al-Maaarij: 19 20) and I say seeking refuge in Allah from these qualities that we should not let our desires to cause us to become impatient or irritated with the Divine Decree of Allah Azza Wajal, but rather follow the example of the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam in his patience as Allah says: .! . ,.> _ So be patient (O Muhammad Sal-Allaahu 'alayhe Wa Sallam ), with a good patience. (Surah al-Maaarij: 5) by being patient on whatever befalls upon him from the various trials whilst continuously hoping for Allahs, the Mighty and Majestic, help and not losing hope in Allah no matter whatever the consequences he may face as stated by Allah subhanahu wataala: L.1. _. .- < __ Despair not of the Mercy of Allh, Verily Allh forgives All sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surah az-Zumar: 53) This action of seeking rescue is called al-Istighathah and it was defined by Shaikh Uthaymeen rahimahullah as: 28
al-Istighathah is to seek rescue and deliverance from severe difficulty and destruction 21 ; he also stated: seeking deliverance and rescure from Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, is one of the most excellent and most perfect deeds and it was the continual practice of the Messengers and their followers 22 End Quote. This noble act of worship is clearly described in the aayah: :| .,-.`. >`, ,!>.`.! l _ (remember) when You sought help of Your Lord and He answered ..." (Surah al-Anfal: 9) and in the hadith of Umar ibn al-Khattab radiyallahu anhu: When it was the day on which the battle of Badr was fought, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam cast a glance at the infidels and they were one thousand whilst his own companions were three hundred and nineteen. The Holy Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam turned (his face) towards the Qiblah then he stretched his hands and began his supplication to his Lord: O Allah, accomplish for me that which you have promised me. O Allah bring about that which you have promised to me, O Allah, if this small group of Muslims is destroyed You will not be worshipped upon the Earth. He sallallahu alaihi wasallam continued his supplication to his Lord earnestly with his hands raised, facing the Qiblah, until his cloak fell from his shoulders. So Abu Bakr radiyallahu anhu came to him, took up his coat and cast it back upon his shoulders and then embraced him from his behind and said: O Prophet of Allah, your earnest supplication to your Lord will be sufficient for you since He will fulfill what He has promised to you, so the above aayah was sent down 23 : Subhanallah!, this is the best of creations Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam and the best person after the Prophets alaihimussalam, his companion Abu Bakr radiyallahu anhu. Do we not find in them the finest example to follow? By Allah, we find the best example as Allah says: .1l l >l _ _. < :`. ..> _.l l `>, < ,l > : < ,: _

Indeed In the Messenger of Allh (Muhammad Sal-Allaahu 'alayhe Wa Sallam) You have a good example to follow for Him who hopes In (the Meeting with) Allh and the Last Day and remembers Allh much. (Surah al-Ahzab: 21) At a time when the enemy was greater than triple the number, the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam did not despair in hoping for help from Allah, but rather he remained steadfast in his belief that the Lord of the worlds will not abandon him and the believers and this is what Allah mentions in various aayat of the Quran: !,!., _.] `.., :| `.,1l : .,.! `: < ,. >l-l _>l. __ O You who believe! when You meet (an enemy) force, take a firm stand against them and Remember the Name of Allh much (both with tongue and mind), so that You may be successful. (Surah al-Anfal: 45) _.] _! `l '_!.l | _!.l . `-,> >l >:>! >: !...,| l! !.,`.> < -. `_,l __ Those (i.e. believers) unto whom the people (hypocrites) said, "Verily, the people (pagans) have gathered against You (a great army), therefore, fear them." but it (only) increased them In Faith, and they said: "Allh (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs (for us)." (Surah aal-e-Imran: 173) !.l , `...l ,> l! ..> !. !..s < .`]. _.. < .`]. (Surah al-Ahzab: 22) and the hadith of Abdullah ibn Abu Awfa radiyallahu anhu that the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: 30
O people, do not wish to meet the enemy, ask for al-Aafiyah, should you meet them then be patient. 24
It is worthy to note the support and aid provided by Abu Bakr radiyallahu anhu in comforting the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam at a time of his distress. He did not cast any doubts into the Messengers sallallahu alaihi wasallam mind regarding the small number of the Muslims or their lack of weapons or the large number of enemies or the likes of them but rather he affirmed the support from Allah with his words: O Prophet of Allah, your earnest supplication to your Lord will be sufficient for you since He will fulfill what He has promised to you 25
full of trust and hope in Allah, by Allah indeed he is as-Siddeeq! Allah, the Mighty and Majestic sent down a thousand of his angels and the Muslims with their Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam emerged with a great victory. They killed seventy persons and captured a further seventy from the enemy. Let us not think that this hope and trust in Allah is only at a time when great victory comes but it is at all times as in the hadith of al-Bara bin Azib radiyallahu anhu, on the day of Uhud, the people came down from the places given to them by the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam against his instruction and the enemy attacked again causing the people to flee. He (al-Bara bin Azib radiyallahu anhu) said: Only twelve men remained with the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and the infidels martyred seventy men from us. Then the enemy Abu Sufyan 26 (from the infidels) went back to his companions and announced that the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam, Abu Bakr and Umar radiyallahu anhuma are all dead. La ilaaha illallah and this is while they were alive and they heard him say this, then Abu Sufyan started reciting cheerfully: O, Hubal, be high!, O, Hubal, be high! (Hubal was the name of an idol in the Kabah in the pre-Islamic period). On that the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said (to his companions): why dont you answer him back? They said: O Allahs Messenger! What shall we say? He said: Say Allah is Higher and more Sublime. (Then) Abu Sufyan said, We have the (idol) Uzza, and you have no Uzza. The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said (to his companions): Why dont you answer him back? They asked: O Allahs Messenger! What shall we say? He said: Say: Allah is our Maula (Lord, Patron, Supporter and Helper, etc) and you have no Maula. 27
Seventy of the companions ridwanullahi alaihim martyred, then the enemy announcing that the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and his two great companions to be dead whilst they being alive, only twelve men with the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam but yet he bravely says to the enemy that Allah is Higher and more Sublime and that Allah is our Maula and you have no Maula. This was the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam and his companions ridwanullahi alaihim ajmaeen. Each one of us should tap his heart and see where we stand in our belief and trust and hope and tawakkul (reliance) upon our Creator, the Mighty and Majestic!
24 Reported by Bukhari (2804) and Muslim (4640) 25 Already preceded above 26 Abu Sufyan radiyallahu anhu later on embraced Islaam, walhamdulillah! 27 Reported by Bukhari (Summarised Eng. Trans. No: 1299) 31
By the One Who sent Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam with the truth, I say: Allah is our Maula and the Rawafid and those who are with them have no Maula and victory by the leave of the Lord of the heavens will be for the Muslims! For it is not Husn-azh-Zhan (good intention) about Allah for us to think that these kuffar, the enemies of Allah and His sublime Deen would be given victory over the people of Ahl-us-Sunnah for the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said on the authority of Anas ibn Malik radiyallahu anhu in a Hadith Qudsi (the rough translation of the hadith means): Allah the Mighty and Majestic said: Im as my slave perceives me to be, and Im with him if he calls Me. 28
It is revealed by the above hadith that Allah subhanahu wataala will be with the Muslim as per his intention and tawakkul upon his Creator. The greater the reliance, trust and hope, greater the assistance would be from Allah and we have been commanded to place our trust in Allah: _ls < _.,l `...l __ In Allh should the believers put their trust. (Surah aal-e-Imran: 122) It is not befitting for anyone of think that the great number of our enemy or their sophisticated weapons or their support from people or their wealth is any reason for them to defeat the Ahl-us- Sunnah of Dammaj since Allah will never cause the one who relies upon Him to be lost as seen: _. _`., < _-> .`] l>>: _ `, _. ,> ..> _. _., _ls < .,`.> | < _l., .:. . _-> < _>l ,`_: . _ and Whosoever fears Allh and keeps his duty to him, He will make a Way for Him to get out (from Every difficulty). And He will provide Him from (sources) He never could imagine. and Whosoever puts his trust In Allh, Then He will suffice Him. Verily, Allh will accomplish his purpose. indeed Allh has set a measure for All things. (Surah at-Talaq: 2 3) .1l `.. < .,, .. ]: 1.! < >l-l `>: __

And Allh has already made You victorious at Badr, when You were a weak little force. so fear Allh much [abstain from All kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden and love Allh much, perform All kinds of good deeds which He has ordained+ that You may be grateful. (Surah aal-e-Imran: 123) For we have relied upon Him alone, the Lord of the Throne, and He will indeed suffice us and this is the best course of action to be taken at this time of our dire need as preceded in the hadith of the battle of Badr, i.e. al-Istighathah from Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. Know O Muslim, that the enemy is not to be feared no matter how large, powerful or able since Allah has commanded us not to fear them: !..| `>l: _.L,:l .> .:,!,l >!>. l> | ,.. _,... __ It is Only Shaitn (Satan) that suggests to You the fear of his Auliy' [supporters and friends (polytheists, disbelievers In the Oneness of Allh and In his Messenger, Muhammad )], so fear them not, but fear Me, if You are (true) believers. (Surah aal-e-Imran: 175) Verily it was these kuffar (the Rawafid) who attacked the Ahl-us-Sunnah of Dammaj FIRST and it is clearly a duty upon every single Muslim to defend against these oppressors as Allah says in the following aayah: _l..1. !. .>. `..., .> _>|, _.l > ',., . :. `.:> <! _> ::> | .. _,... _ >l.. `,.-`, < ,.,!, >> .., `,l. : .. , _,... _ Will You not fight a people who have violated their oaths (pagans of Makkah) and intended to expel the Messenger, while they did attack You first? do You fear them? Allh has more Right that You should fear him, if You are believers. Fight against them so that Allh will Punish them by Your hands and disgrace them and give You victory over them and heal the breasts of a believing people, (Surah at-Tawbah: 13 14) We have a right to protect the word of Allah the Most High and this Dawah here which is none other than a call to Allah alone and to further protect the Muslims, our own lives, the lives of our children and women, the sick, the elderly and those who possess Ilm (knowledge) since we have truly been wronged (oppressed) by these Rawafid who cut-off our food for more than 50 days, 33
disrupted our Ibadah (worship), our studies, our peace, our sleep, shot and killed our brothers who were walking on the streets, shot and killed our sister who was walking to the masjid, shot and injured our brothers and children, bombed us from far-away places like cowards and rebelled against us for no reason except that we hold the Word of Allah high above all and He taala has stated in his noble book: : _.l _l..1`, .!, .lL | < _ls `>`.. ',.1l __ Permission to fight is given to those (i.e. believers against disbelievers), who are fighting them, (and) because they (believers) have been wronged, and surely, Allh is Able to give them (believers) victory (Surah al-Hajj: 22) Shaikh Yahya hafizhahullah explained that this aayah was one of the first aayat to be revealed regarding Jihad and the purpose of it was to repel oppression. Allah further said: _. _..s >,l. ..s! ,ls _:., !. _..s >,l. 1. < .ls < _. _,1`..l __ Then whoever transgresses the prohibition against you, You transgress likewise against Him. and fear Allh, and know that Allh is with Al-Muttaqn. (Surah al-Baqarah: 194) I have not said this except with the evidences and the statements of the scholars as Allah says: l:`. _> .] | `.. .-. __ so ask of those who know the Scripture *learned men of the Taurt (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)+, if You know not. (Surah an-Nahl: 43) Shaikh Yahya hafizhahullah has been very patient with these transgressors for a long time especially after they imposed the blockade on us and even after they started the siege (sniping). There were days our brothers were shot, end either killed or wounded so some of would say that the Shaikh would speak about it during the dars but rather he would advise us to be patient, remind us of how the Messengers alaihimussalam and the Sahabah ridwanullahi alaihim ajmaeen were tested and then get onto the lesson. It was only on Saturday night (1 st of Muharram 1432H - 26/11/2011 - which 34
was after 38 days from the initial blockade and 23 days after the beginning of the sniping) after they had bombed us with over 100 motar shells and shot at houses with various heavy machine guns over a period of around seven hours continuously killing 21 brothers and wounding 47 brothers; that the Shaikh announced it was wajib for us to defend ourselves and that now we are in defensive Jihad. Even on that night, along with his announcement, he advised us to be patient and to be cautious and held his lesson. The Rawafid are a sect who have Khawarij ideologies and much worse disbelief as agreed by the Scholars of the Salaf and they, the Rawafid are the worst of transgressors and as seen in the hadith below: When Abu Umamah radiyallahu anhu saw the heads of the Khawarij called al-Azariqah in Damascushe said: The dogs of Fire three times and they are the worst of those who are killed under the surface of the sky and the best of those who are killed under the surface of the sky are those who are killed by them (Khawarij) and then he mentioned that he heard this from the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam many times. 29
The following statements of Imam Barbahaaree rahimahullah, known to be the Imam of Ahlus- Sunnah wal-Jamaah of his time, are regarding them (Rawafid) announcing their kufr: The Most despicable and steeped in disbelief are the Raafidees, the Mutazilah and the Jahmiyyah, since they lead the people into denial (of Allahs attributes) and apostasy. 30
He also said: It is permissible to fight the Khawarij if they attack the persons, property or families of the Muslims but if they desist and flee then they may not be chased 31
The scholars and mashaikh from in and out of Yemen who have clearly stated that this is defensive Jihad and compulsory that we defend ourselves are many. From them are: Shaikh Salih al-Fawzan hafizhahullah who said: it is upon them to depend upon Allah and to increase in supplication and to defend themselves, their children and their wealth. They defend according to their ability
Shaikh Rabee ibn Hadi al-Madkhali hafizhahullah who said: Verily the struggle between Ahlus-Sunnah and the Raafidah, the baatins, is a struggle between kufr and Islam. Thus it is upon Ahlus-Sunnah in every place, in Yemen and other than Yemen, to rise in support of our brothers with their person and wealth
Shaikh Abdul Muhsin al-Abbaad hafizhahullah who said: there is no doubt that which is taking place in Dammaj from fighting is considered Jihaad in the path of Allah! So whomsoever is able to fight from the people of Yemen then

let him do so, however it is a must that he seeks permission from his parents prior (to fighting) 32
It is fard-ain (an individual obligation) upon all in Dammaj, those who have been attacked, to defend and this defending does not require permission from the parents. As for those who wish to aid and cooperate with the Muslims in defending, it is fard-kifayah (a collective obligation) upon all those who are outside Dammaj and they require their parents consent prior to fighting. By Allah, we did not come to Dar-ul-Hadith of Dammaj to fight against the Rawafid, but rather we came for the Quran and the Sunnah upon the Manhaj of the Salaf-as-Saalih, but Allah from His immense wisdom has chosen this for us and combined a true defensive Jihad along with seeking knowledge which is a great blessing and a great opportunity for every single one of us here, man or woman, adult or child, old, weak, sick or well-being and all those who patiently bear this and help in any manner possible to them hoping for reward from Allah the Mighty and Majestic will have the reward of Jihad insha Allah and even if they die from a sickness in their own homes whilst in this state they would be a Shaheed insha Allah as per what Allah has said: _l `.l. _ _,,. < `.`. :-.l _. < .> ,> !.. _`-.> __ And if You are killed or die In the Way of Allh, Forgiveness and Mercy from Allh are far better than All that they amass (of worldly wealths, etc.). (Surah aal-e-Imran: 157) In explaining this aayah, Imam Ibn Katheer rahimahullah says: This will include that being killed in the path of Allah and also death is a means of attaining Allahs Mercy and His forgiveness and His pleasure, and that is better than remaining in the Dunya 33
Know that all of those who came here to study or will come, remained here or left or will remain or die, all of what has already happened here and what will happen is in His clear Record; thus it is upon us to only say and do what pleases Allah, the Most High since He is the Creator who gives us life and gives death and these kuffar will not be able to achieve anything except that Allah has willed it as He said: .:..s _.!. ,-l !.l-, | > `l-, !. _ l `>,l !. 11`. _. | !.l-, ,> _ ..lL _ L _,!, | _ .. _,,. __

(remember) when Your Lord inspired the angels, "Verily, I am with you, so keep firm those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved, so strike them over the necks, and smite over All their fingers and toes." This is because they defied and disobeyed Allh and his Messenger. and whoever defies and disobeys Allh and his Messenger, Then Verily, Allh is Severe In punishment. This is the torment, so taste it, and surely for the disbelievers is the torment of the Fire. O You who believe! when You meet those who disbelieve, In a battle-field, never turn Your backs to them. And whoever turns his back to them on such a Day - unless it be a stratagem of war, or to retreat to a troop (of his own), - He indeed has drawn upon himself Wrath from Allh. and his abode is Hell, and worst indeed is that destination! You killed them not, but Allh killed them. and You (Muhammad) threw not when You did throw but Allh threw, that He might test the believers by a fair trial from Him. Verily, Allh is All-Hearer, All-Knower. This (is the fact) and surely, Allh weakens the deceitful plots of the disbelievers. (O disbelievers) if You ask for a judgement, now has the judgement come unto You and if You cease (to do wrong), it will be better for you, and if You return (to the attack), so shall we return, and Your forces will be of no avail to you, however numerous it be, and Verily, Allh is with the believers. (Surah al-Anfaal: 9 19) 43
I end this treatise with the help of Allah subhanahu wataala by giving glad tidings to the Believers with the following hadith of the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam on the authority of Suhaib radiyallahu anhu that the Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: How amazing is the affair of the believer, if ease comes to him he gives thanks for it, so that is good for him, and if trouble comes to him he has patience and so that is good for him. 39
I wrote all of this, to firstly remind myself and then to remind the Believers since Allah subhanahu wataala says: : | _.] _.. _,...l __ And remind (by preaching the Qur'n, O Muhammad Sal-Allaahu 'alayhe Wa Sallam) for Verily, the reminding profits the believers. (Surah adh-Dhariyaat: 55) and the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said on the authority of Tamim ad-Dari radiyallahu anhu: Religion is sincerity. We said: To whom? He said: To Allah and His Messenger, and to the leaders of the Muslims and their common folk. And Allah, the Mighty and Majestic commanded us to always speak the truth as He said: !!., _.] `.., 1. < l .,.. _ O You who believe! keep Your duty to Allh and fear him, and speak (Always) the truth. (Surah al-Ahzab: 70) And Allah knows best, and may Allah extol and send blessings of peace upon Muhammad, his true followers and his Companions. And I ask Allah to make me, my family, my parents, my in-laws and all the brothers and sisters who are affected by this trial in and out of Dammaj patient and firm upon steadfastness until His help comes and that He taala also gives supreme victory to the Muslims and that He also destroys the Rawafid! I aslo ask Allah subhanahu wataala to immensely reward the brother Abdullah as-Somali who assisted me greatly in allowing me to use the electricity from his house to complete this treatise and the brother Abu Abdurrahman Nawwas al-Hindi as-Sailani who helped me by reviewing this treatise and further assisted me with the Takhreej of the ahadith! Written by Abu Asma Milhan ibn Haniffa as-Sirilaanki on the 17 th of Muharram in the year 1432 Hijri in Dar-ul-Hadith of Dammaj and All praise is due to Allah alone the Lord of the worlds!
