THIS YEAR, 3D IS MOVING FROM CINEMAS TO HOMES

Content creators, broadcasters, encoding specialists and equipment manufacturers are actively engaged in the convergence of their activities, making 3D available to everyone.

EUTELSAT IS A 3D PIONEER IN EUROPE

After having pioneered live high definition broadcasting of cultural and sport events to cinemas and halls in Europe, Eutelsat has remained at the forefront of innovation in 2009 by offering 3D for the broad casting of major shows in Italy and in France. In 2010, Eutelsat considerably extended its network and broadcast live in 3D some 20 matches of the FIFA World Cup to more than 200 halls in 19 European countries. In parallel, Eutelsat launched in March 2009 a permanent 3D demonstration channel on its EUROBIRD 9A satellite, to promote 3D among professionals and the general public.

SATELLITES ARE AT THE FOREFRONT OF SUCH INNOVATION

Satellites alone offer enough capacity for broadcasting 3D content, very greedy in bandwidth and liable to saturate terrestrial networks. Furthermore, satellites alone can broadcast content simultaneously to tens of millions of households throughout a very large geographical area.

The quality in 3D is unbelievable. Its what we call a game changer

George Jeffrey, President, Europe, National Geographic Channel

Today, the experiments carried out, including on home TV sets, show that 3D is appreciated by consumers
Gilles Maugars Deputy director general Technology, TF1

Satellite pay-TV platforms create and aggregate content, distribute it and offer set top boxes to receive it on TV. They can use existing infrastructure to deliver a 3D signal to consumers homes. If they want to create a 3D content service, they can.
