Communion - the faithful receive "the bread of heaven" and "the cup of salvation," the body and blood of Christ who offered himself "for the life of the world. Substance - That which exists in itself and not in another. Accident - That which cannot exist in itself but only in another. Essence Real Presence Term used to describe that the whole Christ is uniquely and substantially present in the Eucharist, living and glorious, Body and Blood, soul and divinity. Source and Summit Transubstantiation Theological concept expressing the truth that the Eucharist involves a change of the entire substance (essence) of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ, while the accidents (physical properties or appearances) of bread and wine remain unchanged. Mystical Body of Christ Those who are members of the Church, united with Christ as Head of the Body.
