Dec 18, 2011 I've seen Larry Cafuro in committee hearings. He's partisan to the core. I live 5 minutes from Bridgeport. We and it (Bridgeport) have no connection to New Haven County, either presently or historically. Mark Spector Fairfield, CT Dec 18, 2011 Our goal should be more democracy, less ideology. Letting politicians create voting districts is like letting weasels run the hen house. As a person that was born in, raised and educated in Bridgeport, I find this redistricting effort to be a deplorable and blatant act of bigotry against the poor and disenfranchised and specifically against the minority groups that make up a large portion of the Bridgeport population. Republicans should not and will not continue to be allowed to perpetrate the marginalization of the middle and lower classes for political or monetary gain. If Republicans want a Republican dominated district in Fairfield County, they should start making huge changes within their party that would embrace these groups and start making efforts to win them over with good policy that serves all people, not just those that can maximize campaign contributions or special interest kickbacks. This war against the 99% has awoken a beast that has been sleeping for 30 years. The state of Bridgeport is the result of bad conservative policy. Policy that Republicans will continue to pay for at the voting booth. Governor Malloy, I deeply suggest that you consider disallowing this gerrymandering effort to pass. Every motion against the poor and middle classes of this country emboldens our resolve. Choose to be on the right side of history, choose the people and the people will carry you on their shoulders. I am outraged to be informed that Connecticut would consider gerrymandering Bridgeport out of the 4th Congressional District! Bridgeport is part of Fairfield County, and as the lines of the 4th District are presently those of most of Fairfield County to exclude Bridgeport from the 4th Congressional District would be a violation of the principals of constitutionally fair, reasonable and appropriate districting. The only reason for redistricting would be to throw the 4th District into the control of Republicans, and that alone is insufficient basis upon which to redistrict. Do not redistrict Bridgeport! Bridgeport is a significant and historically important part of Fairfield County. There is no justifiable reason to allow this proud city to be coupled with New Haven, which is about 20 miles away except the blatantly partisan goal of making the truncated remains of Fairfield County a solid, impenetrable Republican bunker. We have suffered too much in recent history from blind Republican partisan politics. The Reapportionment Commission should not carve out Bridgeport and pretend its population belongs with New Haven. The two cities are more than 20 miles apart. Fairfield County voters need to speak with a single voice on Election Day as they always have: the voice of the 4th Congressional District.. The proximity of the towns and cities of Fairfield means that our future is irrevocably shared. Thus our votes belong in the same pot so our legislators can properly represent the needs and dreams of all the people in Southwestern Fairfield County. when they go to Washington DC. I urge you to keep Bridgeport part of the 4th Congressional District. We need to insure that Bridgeport is properly heard and represented and as part of the district that includes the towns that consider it their neighbor it would make sense to leave it with the southern towns where it is rather than lump it into a more northern district with a different set perspective. Bridgeport has enough problems and keeping it as "one of our own" it is better able to receive assistance and work with the more affluent Fairfield county towns that are so active in helping it to survive. Dec 10, 2011 The unabashed attempt at a concentration of wealth and power is quite evident here. Fairfield County is one of the bastions of American Royalty; and as such, is the wealthiest county in the Nutmeg State. Severing Bridgeport will favor those factions looking to corral the richest county in the state for reasons hardly beneficial to the mass of voters. Retaining Bridgeport as part of Fairfield County helps to maintain a semblance of the balance of power.
