Organization profile History of the organization: National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) Dairy co-operative account for the

major share of processed liquid milk marketed in the country. Milk is processed and marketed by 170 milk producers co-operative unions, which federate into 15 state co-operative milk marketing federations. The dairy development boards programmes and activities seek to strengthen the functioning of dairy co-operatives, as producer-owned and controlled organizations. NDDB supports the development of dairy co-operatives by providing them financial assistance and technical expertise, insuring a better future for Indian farmers. Over the years, brands created by co-operatives have become synonymous with quality and value. Brands like Amul (GCMMF), vijaya (AP), Verka (Punjab), Saras (Rajasthan), Nandhini (Karnataka), Milma (Kerala), Gokul (Kolhapur), Aavin (Tamilnadu) are those that have earned customer confidence. n) Tamilnadu Co-operative Milk Producers Federation Ltd., (TCMPF) o) West Bengal Co-operative Milk Producers Federation Ltd., (WBCMPF) Tamilnadu Co-operative Milk Producers Federation Ltd., (TCMPF): The Dairy Development Department was established in 1958 at Tamilnadu. The administrative and statutory control over all the milk co-operatives in the state was transferred to the Dairy Development Department on 1.8.1965. The commissioner for milk production and Dairy Development was made as the functional Registrar under the Tamilnadu Co-operative Societies Act. Tamilnadu co-operative Milk Producers Federation Ltd was registered under the state on 1st February 1981. The commercial activities of the Department such as milk procurement, processing, chilling, packing and sale of milk to the consumers etc., hitherto dealt with the Tamilnadu Dairy Development Corporation Ltd., were transferred to the newly registered Tamilnadu co-operative Milk Producers Federation Ltd, popularly known as Aavin. In the wake of liberalization policy, private dairies have also entered into the field of dairying. As per the direction of the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, high priority has been given for improving the performance of milk co-operatives by adopting a systematic approach and proper strategy in milk co-operatives. Significant achievement has been made by Milk Producers Co-operative Societies, Unions and federation in the state of Tamilnadu. There are 17 District Co-operative Milk Producers union functioning in the state of Tamilnadu covering 30 districts. There are 15 dairies in District Co-operative Milk Producers Unions with an installed processing capacity of 19.42 llpd. There are 36 chilling centers (functional) in District Co-operative Milk Producers Unions with installed chilling capacities of 13.55 llpd. In that way the Dharmapuri District Co-operative Milk Producers union is one of the unions which comes under the control of the Tamilnadu Co-operative Milk Producers Federation Ltd, which is undertaking the functions of milk procurement in the districts of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri.

Incorporation: The Dharmapuri District Co-operative Milk Producers Union has been registered under the co-operative societies on 29.5.1982 and started functioning with effect from 16.11.1982. During that time the union had 310 milk procuring co-operative societies and 30,015 members with the average procurement of 32,207 liters per day. At present the situation has changed with shows a growth in the procurement of milk where the union is procuring 1.30 liters of milk per day from 705 milk procuring cooperative societies in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts. The union has invested Rs 44,90,767 to support the growth of the milk procuring activity in both the districts, trying to create a white revolution similar to green revolution. The union is having two milk chilling centers, one at Dharmapuri with the capacity of 50,000 liters per day and another one at denkanikottai with a capacity of 10,000 liters per day. The unit is having a feeder balancing dairy at Krishnagiri with the capacity of 1,50,000 liters per day. The union has total of Rs 50,00,000 authorized capital and Rs 24,35,800 paid up capital. The feeder balancing dairy in Krishnagiri covers 26.59 acres, milk chilling centre in Dharmapuri covers more than 2.21 acres and milk chilling centre in Denkanikottai covers 6.06 acres. Management The commissioner for milk production and dairy development is the head of the Dairy Development Department. He is the functional registrar in respect of dairy co-operatives in the state. He is also the Ex-officio Managing Director of the Tamilnadu Co-operative Milk Producers federation Ltd., i.e Aavin.. The commissioner for milk production and dairy development exercises all the statutory powers with regard to the registration of societies, supervision, inspection, inquiry, disputes, liquidation of milk co-operatives including the District Co-operative Milk Producers Unions and Federation under the relevant provisions of the Tamilnadu Co-operative Societies Act, 1983 and Tamilnadu Co-operative Rules, 1988.

While discharging the statutory functions, the commissioner for milk production and Dairy development is assisted by the Deputy Milk Commissioner (co-operation) in the rank of joint registrar of co-operative Societies and a Deputy registrar at the headquarters besides 23 Deputy Registrars (Dairying) at the district level by way of conferring the powers of the functional registrar. At present the Chairman of the Dharmapuri Co-operative Milk Producers Union is Mr.E.V.Rajasekaran and the Managing Director is Mr. Gunaselan.

Product Profile The federation is engaged in production of both milk and milk products. The federation sells the following types of milk to customer in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri. Milk: Standardized Milk Toned Milk Full Cream Milk UTH Milk These are marketed under the brand name of AAVIN Milk products: Yogurt Ice Creams Butter Milk Khova Skimmed Milk Powder Ghee Butter Cheese Curd Flavored Milk

Market Potential This union is marketing 16,000 liters of milk everyday in the town like Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Hosur, etc and also in small villages. About 90,000 liters of raw chilled milk is being sent to Federation every day by tankers to cater the needs of Metro marketing. The union is also proposed to construct Highway parlours in the selected areas of the district to improve the sales of milk and its by products sales. The district co-operative milk producers Union is the base level organization promoting the socio economic development of the Milk Producers Coop Societies, by pumping crores of rupees to the rural milk producers. By creating the member awareness, women development activities the down trodden poor are unlifted. The Feeder balancing dairy is having the processing capacity as follows: 1. Milk handling 2. Skim Milk powder 3. Butter Production 4. Ghee Production 1.50 lakhs per day 10,000 Kgs per day 8,000 Kgs per day 5,000 Kgs per day

Marketing: The sale of the milk in sachets is being carried out through 18 zones, 292 Federation Depots, 184 Fedn. Distribution points, 38 whole sale milk distributors, 89 Milk retailers and 49 Milk consumers Co-operative societies and their depots numbering 221 and 142 distribution points. The sale of milk product is being carried out through 25 parlours, 145 Franchise Retail Outlets(FROs), 11 Wholesale dealers and 2824 Retailers. The Federation also caters to the needs for functions like marriages by booking special orders. Standardised Milk, Buffalo Milk and Double toned milk are being sold through 218 Automatic Vending Machines and 98 FRPs to the city consumers. Milk products are also sold an certain AVM units. Sachet milk sales are also carried out in AVM units.

The price for the products are fixed by the federation during the product pricing commitee meetings. The marketing of the goods are automatically carried out by the federation where the union has very good market in Chennai.
