Hamilton Date : 24/12/2011 WT4: first draft Argument That Processed Food Is Better Than Organic Food Statistics show that, 90% of the food in supermarkets are processed food. The definition of process food is any real food that has been altered in any way in order to lower its production cost, lengthen its shelf life, make it look more appealing and that results in the reduction of its nutritional benefits. The definition of organic foods are all foods that are produced using methods that do not involve modern synthetic inputs. The aim of this paper is to argue that process food is better than organic food , particularly in the economy and availability .

Economy is an important major for arguing that processed food is better than organic foods especially in consumer and business. First, Demand for organic foods is primarily concern for personal health and concern for the environment because that organic food products are cost 20% to 50% more than process food products. For instant, an average person by $30 can go to store and come out with 5 bags of process food or could come out with 2 bags of organic food. According to the USDA, Americans, on average, spent $67 per year on buying process food in 2004, thus switching entirely to organics food would raise their cost of buying by about $255 to $659 per year ($21 to $55 per month). Second, There is a good benefits of using process food for the companies sell foods and that is the process food last long time that give them advantage to sell more products, on other hand organic food last short time. According to Tamimy supermarket, 80% of their sells in 2010 were process foods and 20% was organic foods.

Additional support is provided by a study, process food can last more than a year and organic food cannot last more than a week. Clearly, organic foods are more expensive than process foods and process foods last longer and process foods are profitable for companies.

Availability is a critical for arguing that processed food is better than organic foods specially in seasons and transport. Firstly, process food can be found in a whole year but most organic foods are found in special seasons. For example , organic apples are found in fall season but process apples are found in whole year. According to Fahad supermarket, in 2011, they receive process foods in whole year for all kind but they receive organic foods in intermittently time in a year. Secondly, process foods are easy to transport and you can find them in all markets ,on other hand organic foods are difficult to transport they need special trucks and they last short time. According to Mostfa Samer company(this company for transport foods),in 2001, they transport 10 tons of process food and they just transport 1 ton of organic food every day. To summarize, process foods are easy to find and transport but organic foods are not.

Clearly, The aim of this paper was to argue that processed food is better than organic food, particularly in the economy and availability . Organic foods are more expensive than process foods, and process foods last longer and process foods are profitable for companies, and process foods are easy to find and transport and organic foods are not. In my opinion processed foods are better than organic foods because it is cheap and easy to find.
