Forbestresults,youshouldimportDVDfilesintoDvdReMakefromafolderonyourharddrive.IfyouwanttoworkonaDVDthatyouhave authored,youcanimportitpriortoburningittoadisk.IftheDVDisalreadyonadisk,itshouldbecopiedtoaharddrivefolderbefore importingintoDvdReMakePro.Thisprocessisusuallycalled"ripping."MostcommercialDVD'sareencryptedwithamethodcalledContent ScramblingSystem(CSS).DvdReMakeProdoesnotworkwithencryptedDVD's.ItisyourresponsibilitytodeterminewhetherdecryptingaDVD islegalornot,inthecountryinwhichyoulive.

GettingtoKnowtheUserInterface
TheDVDTreethatisshownontheleft-sideofDvdReMake'suserinterfaceshowsahierarchalviewofthestructureoftheDVD thatyouareworkingon.TheDVDTreeactsasthecontrolcenterforyourproject.WhenyouselectanitemtheDVDinthetree, theappropriateviewopenstoshowthecontentsofthatitem. Therearefourmainviews: 1. DomainContentView 2. PGCView 3. VMGTitlesView 4. VTSTitlesView WithDvdReMake,youareincompletecontrolofthelayoutoftheinterface.Youcaneasilymove,dock,hide,orotherwise rearrangealmostanypartoftheinterface.SeeCustomizingtheUserInterfaceformoreinformation. Below are screenshots of the Domain Content View and the PGC View, which is where most of your editing will take place. If you hover your mouse cursor over an item in one of the screenshots, a tooltip will appear showing the item's name. OneofthemostcommonusesforDvdReMakeistoremoveunwantedmaterial.Thematerialmightberemovedtosavespaceonyourremade DVD,ormaybejustbecauseyoudon'twanttoseeit.

InmostcasesthebestwaytoremovematerialistouseoneofDvdReMake'shidefunctions.Youcanactuallydeletetheunwantedmaterialwith DvdReMakePro,butthisrequiresthatyouadjustthenavigationofthedisktopreserveplayback.Whenyouhidestuff,andyouhave DvdReMake's"Autobypass"optionenabled,navigationwillautomaticallybeadjustedtoskipoverthehiddenmaterial.DvdReMakereplacesthe block(s)thatyouchoosetohidewithblankvideo(s).Theseblankvideosaresosmallthattheyhavevirtuallynoimpactonthefinaldisk'ssize. Asyouwillsee,hidingstuffisveryeasywithDvdReMake.

Before we get started, please note that it is your responsibility to determine if removing warning screens is legal in the country in which you live.

OK,let'sgetstarted...ItisassumedthatyouhavealreadyimportedyourDVD.Thefirstthingthatyoushoulddoistomakesurethatyouhave theAutoBypassoptionenabled.Todothis,goto"Options"inthe"Tools"menu...

Andtheoptionsdialogappears...

Ok,nowlet'sfindwhatyouwanttoremove.Often,warningscreensandstudiologosareintheVideoManagerDomain(VMG),buttheycanalsobe inaVideoTitleSet(VTS).TrailersareusuallyinaVTS.ProbablytheeasiestwaytofindthethingsthatyouwanttoremoveistoselecttheVMGora VTSintheDVDTree,whichopensitintheDomainContentView.TheDomainContentPaneallowsyoutoquicklyscanthroughtheblocksthatthe selecteddomaincontains. Hereisanexample.Let'ssupposethatwewanttoremovewarningsfromadisk.We'veimportedthedisk,sonowlet'sselecttheVideoManager...

Ifyouneedto,youcanselectablockandpreviewitintheVideo/Audio/SubtitlePreview.Buthere,rightawaywecanseewarningscreensinthree differentlanguages.We'regoingtohideallthreeofthem.Hidingtheblockscouldn'tbeeasier.Youcouldsimplyright-clickoneachblockinthe DomainContentPaneandselect"HideBlock"asshownbelow.

Butsincewewanttohidethefirstthreeblocks,thereisaneasierway.Justright-clickonthe4thblockandselect"Hideblocksbeforethis,"andall threeoftheunwantedblockswillbehiddenatonce.

That'sallthereistoit.Sincewehavethe"Autobypass"optionenabled,thedisk'snavigationwillautomaticallybeadjustedsothehiddenblocksare skippedoverduringplayback. Nowyoucanremoveadditionalmaterialifyouwishto.BlockscanalsobehiddenintheProgramsPaneofthePGCView.Also,ifyoufindaPGC whereyouwanttohideeverythingthatitcontains,youcanright-clickonitintheDVDTreeandselect"Hideallblocks."Similarly,ifyouselect"Hide allblocks"onaVTSintheDVDTree,thenallblocksinallPGC'softheVTSwillbehidden(notincludingmenuPGC's).ThemenuPGC'scanbe hiddenbyright-clickingontheirMenuLanguageUnitandselecting"Hideallblocks." Youcannowdosomeadditionaleditingifyouwish,butbeforeyouburnyourremadedisk,youcandoatestexporttomakesurethatyouhid everythingthatyouwantedto.

Removeaudioorsubtitlestreams

OneofthenewfeaturesofDvdReMakeProv3istheabilitytoremove/disableaudioandsubtitlestreams.Thisbasicguidewill demonstratehowtodojustthat.

Thepurposeistoremovestreamsthatyoudon'tneed,andtoreducethesizeoftheDVDsoitcanfitonaDVD-5(Singlelayerdisc). Ifitdoesnotfit,thenuseanotherprogramtoshrinkorre-encodetofitonaDVD-5.Atleastthisway,thequalitywillbebetterthan ifunwantedstreamshadnotremoved.See:BurningYourRemadeDVD.

Usually,whenperformingthisprocedure,youwillalsowanttohideordeletethecorrespondingbuttonintheAudio/Subtitlemenu oftheDVD.Butitissafestjusttohidethebutton,soyoucanretainnavigationalstructure.Ifyoudelete,youmighthavetomodify thenavigationalstructure.Thismethodisonlyforadvancedusers,whoknowwhattheyaredoing.Thedetailsofhidingthebuttons won'tbediscussedhere,asitisnotthefocus.

Tothetaskathand,thereare2waystoremovestreams:

1. DisabletrackinallPGC's 2. DeleteTrack
These2optionsareavailableviacontextmenu(byright-clicking)intheAudioTracksPaneortheSubpictureTracksPane,whichare displayedwhenclickingonaVTS,"ProgramChains,"oraPGCintheDVDTree. Toshowhowthese2optionswork,andwhenitissafetodoso,twoscenariosaregiven.OneisforasinglePGCintheVTS,the otherisformulti-PGC'sintheVTS.

Scenario 1 (single PGC)

NoticetheTracknumberinFigure1matchesthatofFigure1ain bothAudioandSubpictureTrackspane.Thesamecanbesaidfor theStreamnumber.

TheInfocolumnrevealsthestreaminfoaswellasthestreamID, e.g.0x80.

IntheSubpictureTrackspane,thereare2streamIDsin1track. Whatdoesthismean?Ifyoudouble-clickoneofthetracksinFigure 1a,you'llnoticethateachstreamcorrespondstotheWide, Pan/Scan,orLetterboxview.Usually,thisappliestowide-screen movies.Only1streamnumbercanbedisplayed,dependingonthe settingofthedvdplayer,andthetypeofTV(wide-16x9,orfull- 4x3).

Ifitisafull-screenmovie,thenthestreamcorrespondstoNormal view.

By disabling the track, the stream is removed, but the stream info is retained.ThisishowotherDVDreauthoringtoolsdoit,e.g.NeroRecode,DVDShrink,and DVDRebuilder,tonameafew.Thepurposeistoretain functionalitywhenselectingadisabledtrackviaAudioor Subtitlemenu.Ifselected,sincethetrackisnotthere,it usuallydefaultstothefirsttrack.

InFigures2and2a,noticeAudioTracks2&3arezero byte-sizeandindicate"notused"underStreamcolumn. ThesameappliestoSubpictureTracks1-3.

"Deletetrack"isavailableonlyintheDomainContentView, andisenabledonlyinthelasttrackintheAudioand SubtitleTrackspanes.

When you delete a track, the track is removed and all streams that were used by the track are removed (unless they are used in other tracks).

SoinFigure1,youwouldstartfromTrack3,deletingthe track,andworkyourwayupuntilyoustopatthetrackyou wanttokeep.

NoticethattheVTSandPGCsizesinFigures2and3,are basicallythesame.InFigures3and3a,noticethestream infoisremoved.

So,inPGC1,Figure4a,themoviecontainsonly2audiotracks,Track0&1,and3subtitletracks.PGC6containsonlyAudiotrack2asshown inFigure4b.Furthermore,PGC's2-5consistofthesameAudiotrackinfoasshowninFigure4a,andthesameSubpicturetrackinfoasshownin Figure4b.

Note that even though track info is present in a PGC, it does not mean that there is really an audio or subtitle stream in that PGC. Inthisexample,PGC's3-5havenoaudiostream,andPGC's2-6havenosubtitlestream.

Inamulti-PGCVTS,disablinganddeletingatrackisalittletricky.Therearetwomethodsdiscussedbelow.

TopracticedisablingatthePGClevel,youcouldgoeachPGCto previewifthere'sreallyanyaudioorsubtitlestream.Justselect thestreamintheAudioorSubPictureTracksPane,andpressplay intheVideo/Audio/SubtitlePreview.Inthisexample,audiotrack 0canbedisabledinPGC3-5astheyarejustWarningandRating screens,andsubpicturetrack0canbedisabledinPGC2-6as therearen'treallyanysubtitles.

MergeMultipleDVDsIntoOne
OneofthenewfeaturesofProv3isthatyouareabletomergeupto4DVDs.v2allowsyoutomergeonly2DVDs.Thebiggestadvantageinusing thisfeatureisthatyoucanmergeepisodicDVDstogether.Ofcourse,youcanedit(hide/delete/add)theoriginalDVDbeforeoraftermerging, butthatisnotthefocushere.Ifyouhaveduallayerburner,youmaynothavetoshrinkorreencodethemergedDVDs. Solet'sgetstarted.

1. First,importatleast2DVDsintotheproject.Here,3episodicDVDshave
beenimported,eachDVDislabeledasproject1,project2,andproject3.

2. FromToolsmenu,selectMergeDVDs...(showninFigure1) 3. A"Selectprojectsformerger"dialogopens.Selecttheprojectineachdropdown
listyouwanttomerge,asshowninFigure2.Theorderthatyouselectedis important. After merging, each button in the Title Menu, created by the program,willbecreatedforeachDisk.Sobutton1willbeforDisk1,button 2forDisk2,andsoon.

RemoveParentalManagement
Occasionally,someDVDshaveparentallevelset.Iftheplayerhasparentalcontroloff,then,ofcourse,theDVDisabletoplaysinceitwillpassthe checkpoint.Butiftheplayerhasparentalcontrolon,the dvd is allowed to play only if its level is lower or equal to the player's setting. Whenever parental control is on, there will most likely a password be involved. How parental management is handled depends on the

behavior of each standalone and software player,butthestandalone'sbehaviorismoretrustworthyinthismatter. Thisguidewillshowyouhowtoremoveparentalmanagement-anewfeatureofDRMProv3.Inv2,parentalmanagement,ifany,isautomatically removeduponexport.However,inv3,youhavetheoptionwhethertoremoveitornot.Moredetailsarediscussedbelow.

Therearethreewayswhereyoucanaccessthe"RemoveParentalManagement"option:

1. Figure1popsupwhenright-clickingontheDVDRoottree.RemovingPMatthislevelismostcommonandeasiest.Itwillremovethe ParentalManagement(PM)tableandresetallparentalIDmasksofeachifointheDVD,aswellasremovetheSetParentalLevel(aka SetTmpPML)command.Basically,itincludestheoperationsofFigure2andFigure3,plusremovingtheParentalManagementtable. 2. Figure2popsupwhenright-clickingontheVideoManagerdomain.ThiswillresetallparentalIDmasksintheVMGMenusand removetheSetParentalLevelcommand. 3. Figure3popsupwhenright-clickingontheVideoTitleSetdomain.ThiswillresetallparentalIDmasksintheVTSMenusandVTS

PGCs,andreflectthatintheTitlePlayMaptableintheVIDEO_TS.IFO. ThisisbyfaroneofthepowerfulfeaturesofDRMProinthatyoucanchoosewhichVTSyouwantparentalrestrictionremoved.Thoughitmaynot beusedoften,butatleastyouknowthatthisoptionisavailable.OneapplicableexampleissupposedtheDVDisratedPG-13andthere'sacertain VTSthatisratedR,youmightwanttokeepthatandremovetheotherVTSs.Ifyoudothis,itisrecommendedthatyoudonotremovePMatthe VMGlevelaswell. Ifyoudon'tknowthemeaningofPMtableandparentalIDmasks,thendon'tworryaboutit.Thisisextrainformationforadvancedusers.Allthat isneededtoknowisthatthisfeaturewillremoveparentalrestrictionandlettheDVDplayeveniftheparentallevelissetintheplayer. Note:Thisoptionwillnotbeenabled,i.e.grayout,if1)theDVDdoesnotcontainthePMtable,or2)ithasbeenperformed.Thisissoyouknow thatthishasbeendonealready.YoucanalsoseethisoperationintheHistoryaswell.

AsademonstrationforFigure2,Figure4showstheparentalscreeninVMGPGC10.Whenplaying,ifyougetto this screen, that means the parental level has been set on the player, and your DVD does not pass the check point.ThecheckpointisdeterminedinthePreCommandspane.Theparental_valuecontainsthevalueofthe player. If this value is greater than or equal to 3 (rated PG), then the dvd continues to play; otherwise, the parentalscreenisdisplayed,promptingyoutoselect"Yes"or"No".

BurningYourRemadeDVD
OnceyouhavefinishededitingyourDVD,it'sprobablyagoodideatouseExportTestDVD,andviewitwithasoftwareplayerbeforeburningit. Thereareplentyofsoftwareplayersavailable,includingWinDVD,PowerDVD,andNeroShowtime.MostsoftwareplayerswillplayaDVD-video from a hard drive folder.Please note however, software players are notorious for being non-compliant whenit comes to DVD standards.
