Dehradun Dehradun Annual Science Olympiad 2011

The Dehradun Annual Science Olympiad, 2011-(DASO 2011) as per schedule was conducted in two phases, one of which was conducted in the respective school premises of the participating schools. The Second and the final round of the Olympiad was conducted today at the Campus and office of the Empowerment Through Education Society at GMS Road. The Event witnessed participation of around 2000 students from over 27 different schools across standard 3 to standard 9. The top ten per cent scorers of the first round were shortlisted for the second and final round. The schools that participated in the officially included Brightlands School, Carman School, Unison World School, Touch Wood School, Marshall School, Olympus High School, GRD Academy, Doon Valley Public School, Indian Cambridge School, Galaxian International School, Doon Sarla Academy, Glacier Public School, Kay Cee Public School and SGRR Patel Nagar amongst other big and small schools.

Students were posed questions in EVS, Science consisting of elements of Physics, Chemistry, Biology in Multiple Choice Format in both the rounds. The event was a grand success in terms of the number of schools, students and parents speaking in appreciation of the event. Mother of Robin Upadhyay, a student of Brightlands School was all praises for the event as it was challenging and intended at preparing her son for the future competitive world. Most parents commended the fact that the event was not based on bookish facts but derived from general knowledge in science. Mr. Sanjay Gupta a proud father of Muskaan Singhal from Olympus High School suggested the need for more such competitions which open the option for self assessment. Some parents even thanked their schools for participating in such events while some requested for some preparation tips from the schools. Vartika a student of Touch Wood School found the questions neither too difficult nor too easy and was overjoyed to be a part of the second round. Akshat and Snehil students from Brightlands School and Doon Sarla Academy respectively, said that their interest was kindled in the Olympiad after qualifying the very interesting and intriguing Round I, after which they started preparing for the DASO 2011 with much more interest. Rohit Goel, Secretary of the ETE Society emphasized that DASO unlike other competitions is a RECOGNITION CENTRIC event.

ETE Foundation, whose most members and patrons hail from IITs, IIMs and other top notch institutions, has in its Olympiad series an Annual Science, Mathematics and Management Olympiad, as it feels its important to stay competitive yet recognize talent at every possible level in the Learning curve. Top 3 winners across each standard were Felicitated with Medals, Gift Hampers and Merit Certificates in a Felicitation Ceremony held on the 13th of December, 2011 at Hotel Doong House In Dehradun.

To honor the proud winners, Mr Sharad Krishna, Director HR of UPCL was present as the Chief Guest of the event along with Mr Rohit Kapoor, Area Manager-Aviva Life Insurance. Mr. Sharad Krishna was pleased with the society and organizers efforts in making this event a success. He was delighted that the youngsters of Dehradun are putting in their brilliant ideas as a mark of encouragement for the upcoming generation. The Overall ETE Science talent running trophy for the year 2011 was bagged by Brightlands School Dehradun, Followed by Touch Wood School as the First runners Up. The Society instituted-SK Memorial Award 2011 in memory of its founding father and Scientist Dr. Sarvesh Kumar was awarded to Mr. Harshit Khashoo of Olympus High School and was handed over with a Cash prize of Rs. 1000/- by Mrs. Rita Kumar, w/o late Dr. S. Kumar in the award ceremony.
