iv ABSTRACT Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis that primarily affects the lungs. It is transmitted through airborne droplet when patients with pulmonary tuberculosis cough or sneeze. Other signs and symptoms of pulmonary TB are have a low grade fever, cough, night sweats, and fatigue and weight loss. Several numbers of factors contributed to therapeutic non-compliance, these factors could be categorized to patient-centered factors, therapy-related factors, social and economic factors, healthcare system factors, and disease factors. The study then intends to identify which patients personal factor in the TB treatment regimen has a relationship to their compliance. This research will contribute to the Department of Health of the Philippines, the results of this study can be utilized by the Department of Health in the Philippines in providing better programs for health care workers in the compliance of the patient in the treatment regimen. In finding the answers to the research problems, an associational research design is used, which intends to know if there is a significant relationship between patients personal factor and their compliance to TB treatment. Fifty-five (55) TB patients from different barangays in a City were surveyed in September 2011. The main participants of the study were category II and cured TB patients who were officially enrolled under the DOTS program. The main instrument used in this study was a researcher-made questionnaire-type which was validated by various experts. The different items are to answer by the respondents using the four point scale method: 4Strongly agree, 3- Agree, 2- Disagree, 1- Strongly disagree. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Chi square utilized to the study for reporting the respondents personal information and their personal factors. Statistical results show that there is an association between the patients age with a p value of 0.033, and health seeking behavior with a p value of 0.032 with the tuberculosis treatment compliance. These may be concluded that a significant association exists between their age and health seeking behavior. It was recommended to provide more information about the disease and treatment to patients and communities. Increase support from family, peers, and social networks. Provide more information about the effects of medication to reduce the risk of patients becoming non-adherent when experiencing treatment side effects.
