VIRATI0N REFEREN0E 5TANAR

For baseline data collection, usually the OEM vibration limit, ISO 10816 or Technical
Associates Proven Method 4
th
Edition are used for reference.

OEM Vibration Limit

This is usually supplied by the owner. The OEM reference is the best source of reference when
setting up baseline data trending.

ISO 10816 3

Proven Method 4th Edition (Technical Associates)

Please choose your overall condition rating from the table below. Additional criteria for using
these ratings are below:

1. Assuming machine speed = 600 to 60000 RPM (10-1000 Hz)
2. Assuming measurement by Accelerometer or Velocity Pickup securely mounted as close as
possible to bearing housing.
3. Assuming machine is not mounted on Vibration Isolators (for Isolated Machine - Set Alarm
30-50% Higher).
4. Set motor alarms the same as that for the particular machine type unless otherwise noted.
5. Consider setting alarms on individual external gearbox positions about 25% higher than that
for a particular machine type.

All values are Overall Velocity in mm/sec rms.
Frequencies will be displayed in Hz

Alarm Types and Levels

GOOD and FAIR indicate that there are no detected problems; however these alarm levels are
intended to give the client a general feel for the overall condition of each machine.

Corrective actions should be taken on those machines having vibration exceeding ALARM 1, while
those exceeding ALARM 2 are felt to be exposed to such high levels as to render potentially
catastrophic failure (therefore, demanding immediate attention).

FAIR alarm levels translated to 'Warning' alarms in the database.
(Indicated with Y Ye el ll lo ow w highlighting)

ALARM 1 alarm levels are translated to 'Alert' alarms in the database.
(Indicated with Orange highlighting)

ALARM 2 alarm levels are translated to 'Danger' alarms in the database.
(Indicated with Red highlighting)
