Pretty, dark purple, and opaque with jammy (in a French way) fruit showing hints of cherry, chocolate, and toast. It has attractive tannic structure with no lingering bitterness. The colour is pale ruby, the nose is hauntingly evocative of a light-bodied Santenay, with a trace of grape jam and earth. Domaine du Salvard 2010 Sauvignon Blanc Unique 750 ml Ebulliently fresh, almost upliftingly youthful. 100% SB grown just outside the Cheverny AOC. The flavours are soft and piquant, and the low alcohol makes it easy -- almost necessary -- to enjoy an extra glass. Pouilly Fum Rgis Minet 2009 Pouilly Fum Vielles Vignes 750 ml WS 90 RP 88 Lively SB that shows the concentration of its old vines, rounded out by nice, sweet fruit skipping in the background with distinct minerality. Sancerre Domaine Hippolyte-Reverdy 2010 Sancerre 750 ml WS 91 Michel Reverdy has become the benchmark domaine of our times for the appellation. Very pure and generous. This is a lipsmacking SB that never goes out of fashion.

Chteauneuf-du-Pape * Henri Brunier 2009 Chteauneuf-du-Pape Telegramme 750 ml WS 91 IWC 89-91 RP 88-90 This is a serious wine! Yet, it has the gorgeous fruity minerality that is round and fat, highlighting the beautiful approach of the younger vines (ha! 25 years old!) that it comes from. Cornas * Domaine Clape 2009 Cornas 750 ml IWC 92-94 RP 95-97 Intense, teeth-stainingly dark. Mulberry, blueberry, and earth twirl with spice, licorice, and burnt ember. Can you say power and concentration? ETA end of Feb * Domaine Clape 2009 Cornas Cuve Renaissance 750 ml IWC 91-93 RP 92-94 This is the younger vine bottling, planted to granite soil. Dark and intense with nice spice and richness, graphite and black fruit. This wine has a bright future. ETA end of Feb Gigondas * Domaine Les Pallires 2009 Gigondas Terrasse du Diable 750 ml WS 89 IWC 91-93 RP 89 90% Grenache, 5% Mourvdre, 5% Clariette. A fab vintage loaded with wild fruit, minerals, and herbs. Richly textured and immensely gratifying. ETA end of Feb St. Joseph * Domaine Philippe Faury 2009 St. Joseph Rouge 750 ml WS 89 IWC 89-91 Vivid ruby with high-toned violets, lively sharply focused raspberry and black currant, and attractive smoked meat and dried flowers. No rough edges or overt tannins, just lovely lingering spice on the finish. ETA end of Feb Vacqueyras * Le Sang des Cailloux 2009 Vacqueyras Cuve Azalais 750 ml WS 92 IWC 88-90 RP 89 Heady and wild with notes of blueberry, spice, leather, and bacon. A big chewy wine. Organic. 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvdre and Cinsault. ETA end of Feb Vin de Pays de Vaucluse Le Pigeoulet des Bruniers 2010 Rouge 750 ml WS 88 Production with this vintage was down 25%. 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Carignan, 5% Cinsault from 25-year-old vines. Loads of fresh red fruit with plenty of tannic backbone to support it.
