ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
A journey is easier when you travel together. Interdependence is certainly more valuable than independence. This project is the result of twenty five hours of work whereby we have been accompanied and supported by many people. It is a pleasant aspect that we have now the opportunity to express our gratitude for all of them. We would like to express our deep and sincere gratitude to the Department of Management Studies. We wish to express our warm and sincere thanks to Mr. Jain Mathew, M. Com., M. Phil., B. Ed., HDC, and Head of the Department of Management Studies (BBM) for giving us the opportunity to work in the NGO. We think that this concept will definitely have a remarkable influence on our entire career. We are deeply grateful to Mrs. Sunita Panekars, our Academic Coordinator for her supervision and guidance which have been of great value in this study. Her overly enthusiasm and integral view on research and his mission for providing 'only highquality work and not less', has made a deep impression on us. We owe her lots of gratitude for having us shown the right way. This project has really made an impression on us in the corporate social responsibility aspect We owe our loving thanks to our Class Coordinator, Mrs. Lakshmi kartikeyan. Without her encouragement and understanding it would not have been impossible for us to finish this work. The chain of our gratitude would be definitely incomplete if we would forget to thank the group members. Our deepest and sincere gratitude to each other for being understanding, co-operative and hunble. We thank each other for providing a

stimulating environment and it was a pleasure for each one of us to work together for this project. We would like to thank PREMALYA for giving us the opportunity to work with the organization. We would also like to thank the staff at PREMALYA namely Imran, Vishwanath and Ganesh who guided us throughout our project.

BBM FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Social Responsibility is the need people have to contribute to society in a way that leaves a positive impact upon others. Social Responsibility goes beyond obeying social norms or governmental regulations. Social Responsibility comprises corporate and individual acts that make the world a better place to live for all human kind. Promoting Social Responsibility occurs in corporate societies, as companies often have mission statements reflecting their commitment to social responsibility. Some Corporations participate in programs like recycling, ride sharing, water conservation etc. Individual also take social responsibility, and many become involved in causes and organizations that promote positive social values and contribute to society. Today it is very important for every individual to contribute to society in his own small way. A small drop may consider itself to be too small, but it must remember that somewhere a thirsty flower awaits its fall. This is the only reason each and every small contribution makes a big difference. We are here to give and not just take. This is an important principle we should always remember in our lives.

INTRODUCTION TO PREMALYA
Premalaya was started in the year 1996 by the Somascan Fathers as a nursery to support the education of the needy children in the locality. By 3 rd July, 2000 it was converted to Premalaya Centre a shelter for street children and needy youth with the purpose of responding to the basic needs of the street and needy children around Taverekere, Madivala, Tilak Nagar, Mico Layout and B.T.M. areas of Bangalore City.

Vision
To bring about a social transformation by empowering needy youth and children.

Mission
Existing to rehabilitate the children or youth at risk to become socially contributing, economically independent and dignified citizens.

Goals
To view each child as a Gift of God. To know and deal with the children, keeping in mind their background, past experience and traumas they underwent, in view of their holistic growth. To motivate every child with the principle of by the sweat of your brow, you will eat; in other words, to teach the children to work and earn their living. To make them experience that they are dignified persons. To rehabilitate orphans, street children and needy youth through physical, psychological, social and moral education. To create public awareness among the general public about the situation of needy children and the structural causes as embedded in the society.

Day Centre and Night Shelter

Night Shelter: The purpose of the night shelter is to remove the rag-picking and orphaned children from the street by providing for their basic needs, health care, psychological well being, personality development, socialization and spiritual care. Day Centre: The Day Centre was started with the purpose of providing the street children and needy youth with a healthy and safe environment, giving them the opportunity to bathe, wash their clothes, rest and recreation. The Centre also provides for their medical treatment, job placements and also educates them through various awareness programmes.

Activities
Tuition: The Centre offers evening tuition for the poor children of the surrounding areas. These tuitions are held every evening from Monday to Friday between 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The tutors are volunteers as well as paid staff. Street Contact: We are having regular street contact programmes to reach out to the rag-picking children in the street and convince them to have a better life away from the streets. We also help grown up youth to get jobs so that they can earn a decent living and also help their family. Tailoring: Premalaya Centre conducts tailoring classes for poor girls and ladies of the surrounding areas, with the objective of providing them with the necessary skill to apply for jobs in the nearby garment factories. Apart from basic stitching and cutting, the students are also trained to use power machines, embroidery works, designing and fabric painting. Job Placement:

Premalaya Centre helps needy youth to find jobs and settle in their lives. The wandering youths of the area come here for assistance and advice. Medical Care: The Centre gives certain medical assistance to the poor people of the locality. We often take them to the clinic for doctors assistance whenever required. Computer Training: We provide computer coaching to the tuition children and also to the youth who are interested in improving their computer skills. We train them in basic computer operations, Windows and Microsoft Office.

English Language Classes: Since knowledge of English language is a common eligibility criterion for most jobs in India, we therefore offer English coaching to economically backward people, so that they are not prevented from being placed in good jobs. Spiritual Assistance: A group of Catholic youth comes daily for their spiritual nourishment to the Centre.

GROUP SUMMARY
We were asked to prepare a team of our own choice. So it was favorable for us as we were all very good friends. Our timing was 4:30 to 6:30 which was very convenient for the entire group as college got over by 4 oclock and after taking a break of 15min we could go to the NGO. Our timing was divided as 1 hour of play and then an hour of studies. We attended the NGO from 18th January to 12th February 2009. Yogesh and Anish taught the boys who were in class 7-8 and Sandeep and Gaurav taught the boys who were in class 2-5. We taught them new words from dictionary and played interactive games with the kids. It was really great experience for all of us to be with the kids and help them out in every possible way we could.

Individual Report Yogesh Agarwal

It has been a lifetime experience to work in an NGO. Expecting a burden it was actually fun. We taught the students for a period of 25 hours over two weeks of time. Playing was fun with the boys and truly speaking it was a learning experience. We played a lot of volleyball and sometimes interactive games. It depended upon the mood of the kids. They really played well and were enthusiastic about every activity. Through the course I learned how to rotate a latto. Teaching the boys was fun. I had the responsibility of teaching mathematics to the kids. Like everywhere, there were some who were very good and some on the weaker side. It was like tuition where a variety of students from different classes were taught together. I had a personal revision of syllabus of classes 6 and 7 which was fun. More than anything else it gave me a satisfaction that I have done something for the society. Therefore, I would like to thank Christ University and its

management and faculties who have given us an opportunity to work with an NGO which made us experience the immortal feelings and help us to realize our responsibility towards society.

Individual Report Anish Moundia

It was a great experience for me in working in the NGO for 25 hrs as an assignment given by the college. I thought it to be a burden It was really a great experience. In this process we got to see and learn various aspects of life and business with respect to the importance of social welfare along with profits. There are so many bitter truths which often we fail to notice. By this project of ours I learnt a lot of things and also observe the various people who are not so privileged like us. Working in the NGO was a great experience as we got the opportunity to explore the lives of people especially in slums and people who have been facing difficulties every now and then. Children are like flowers as they say, yes indeed true but many children in India strive really hard even to live every minute. There are many children who dont even get their stomach filled. Thanks to these NGOs which have made their life a bit easy. It is doing a great job of helping them in difficult situation and assisting the needy ones. Working in NGOs gave me a kind of personal satisfaction which cant be expressed in words but only be felt. This study really motivated me to do something for the society and being a student of Business Management we can always do something for the society. Social Responsibilities have always been associated with business in terms of making profits by doing social welfare which is the concept of modern business. Lastly, I would conclude by thanking Christ University and its management and faculties who have given us an opportunity to work with an NGO which made us experience the immortal feelings and help us to realize our responsibility towards society.

Firstly I would like to thank Christ University for giving me such a interesting project. I really like to work with the society and play with the kids and this was a great opportunity for me. I was in charge of the smaller boys of the institution. Although there was a teacher we were more like a helping hand to her. Playing was better as I took the lead role there. The best part of being with the kids was that they took fun in everything. They had no tensions of life, no envy and they created the same mood around us too. After a whole days struggle it would be refreshment for me to work with the kids as they made fun of everything. We should always be thankful and grateful to God because we have been provided with a healthy body and mind and thats why its our duty to do something good for the society especially the underprivileged one.

Individual Report Gaurav Bengani I Gaurav Bengani of I bbm c was thrilled and excited about completing this social project. It came to me as a project but at the end of completing it I had a total different view about this, for myself. It was more of a learning experience for me, sort of a lesson of life and living . I imagined myself to be in the place of those kids and hence being with them was heart touching. During my tenure of completing this 25 hours , I was touched at seeing the condition of some of the students who didnt even have proper clothes to wear. I believe the condition would have been different if he had a mother. I learnt about the hard face of life where one needs to do everything all by himself. There is very less caring as the institution

has to look after many students at a time. I also realized the amount of comfort I live in. EXPERIENCE
It was really a great experience to work in NGOs. In this process we got to see and learn various aspects of life and business with respect to the importance of social welfare along with profits. There are so many bitter truths which often we fail to notice. By this project of ours I learnt a lot of things and also observe the various people who are not so privileged like us. Thanks to these NGOs which have made their life a bit easy. PREMALYA is doing a great job of helping them in difficult situation and assisting various NGOs.

CONCLUSION
Overall, the social responsibility project was indeed a learning experience for us. The NGO provided us a lot of help in the process of awareness regarding corporate social responsibility which is a core of any business organization. There are so many bitter truths of life which often we tend to ignore. But this project helped to realize my responsibility towards the society and also it created a kind of commitment towards the society. It was a very practical experience to work for NGOs. At last but not the least I would just pray God to bless each and everyone in this world and keep his blessings glowing for ever.
