WW1 Monopoly Rules: 1) Each player picks a character/country. Youngest player rolls dice first.

Highest number goes first. The war is divided into two factions the allies and the Central powers. The Central powers consist of: Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, and Austria Hungary. The Allies consist of: Britain, France, Russia, and the United States. 2) Game starts in 1882. Each lap around the board by all players increases the games year by 1. All players must cross again to advance another year, even if 1 person made many more laps around. Players take turn rolling dice and moving that many spaces following board instructions around and random events. 3) Players may acquire territories after completing one lap around the board. Players must pay the cost in soldiers to capture the territory. 4) If any soldier lands on a territory controlled by an opponent, they will lose the indicated # of soldiers to the owner of the territory. No cost for landing on allied territory. 5) If you roll doubles take another turn. If you roll 3 doubles in a row, go the prisoners of war camp. 6) If in a POW camp, you roll a double, get out and move that many spaces, you can also use 50 soldiers to break yourself out after 3 turn or use a get out of jail free card. 7) Every year factories create the amount of soldiers specified on the card. Factories can be taken over by opposing forces landing on the square, which pay the cost of the factory. Events during the War 1914- Archduke Franz Ferdinand assassinated. This causes Austria-Hungary to attack Serbia, Russia to Defend Serbia as protector of the Slavs, Germany to stand by Austria Hungary and attack Belgium, France to fight Germany to avoid fighting them later on, and Britain to fight Germany over Belgium Neutrality. Other important contributing factors to the war include militarism, Alliances, Nationalism, Imperialism, and Awful governments. All players mobilize for war + 1000 soldiers 1916- Battle of Verdun was where Germany launched a massive offensive against the French. This eventually resulted in a major French victory with massive casualties on both sides. All Allies lose 500 soldiers All Central powers lose 470 soldiers 1918- Treaty of Brest-Litovsk Russia leaves the allies and becomes a separate power

1918- Meuse Argomme Offensive was one of the first battles that the AEF, or American Expeditionary Force, fought in. This resulted in an allied victory. Allies lose 300 soldiers Central powers lose 450 soldiers 1918- First battle of Somme resulted in around 250k casualties on both sides. The significance of this battle was that the German advance was halted. Both sides lose 250 soldiers 1918- Second Battle of Somme drove the Germans back to the Hidenburg line which was where they had launched the offensive in spring. This marked the turning point of the war. Allies lose 620 soldiers Central Powers lose 500 soldiers. 1919- Treaty of Versailles The war is over. While in history, the central powers lost and Germany had to pay for war damages in the Treaty of Versailles, whichever player has the most soldiers wins the war.
