Our Nation in Crisis

John Adams, in a letter to Abigail Adams, wrote on July 3, 1776: The second day of July 1776 will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to Almighty God. Yesterday, the greatest question was decided which was ever debated in America, and a greater perhaps never was nor will be decided among men. A resolution was passed without one dissenting colony, That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States. PONDER CAREFULLY his report on activities and resolve of the Continental Congress. First in John Adams thoughts was devotion to Almighty God. This frame of mind was professed in all present, and echoed by many in writings later released from the councils and committees. John Adams clearly pronounced that the delegates considered each Colony a free and independent State. It was upon that unanimous understanding that the citizens of the new nation should never be subjected to tyranny by their government that the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution was conceived. The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people. Evidence that the federal government has far overreached its legal authority is found in the legislatures of the States: Legislators in four states have introduced legislation which would nullify any proposed federal emissions regulation under the "cap-and-trade" model. Legislators in four states had introduced legislation which would nullify federal regulation of commerce and activities which are solely within the boundaries of a state and which do not cross state lines. Legislators in 30 states had introduced legislation which would declare certain provisions of any proposed national health care bill to be null and void within the state. Firearms legislation introduced in the legislatures of 27 states that would nullify federal authority would "...declare that any firearms made and retained in-state are beyond the authority of Congress under its constitutional power to regulate commerce among the states". During 2009, "state sovereignty resolutions" or "10th Amendment Resolutions" were introduced in the legislatures of 37 states. These resolutions attempt to reassert state sovereignty over any area not listed among the "enumerated powers." Perhaps the most insidious breach of State Sovereignty is dispensation of federal funds so that federal programs may be administered locally. While sold as attempts to limit the growth of the national bureaucracy, it actually props up and expands local government. The federal system limits the ability of the federal government to use state governments as an instrument of the national government. However, where Congress or the Executive has the power to implement programs, or otherwise regulate, there are, arguably, certain incentives in the national government encouraging States to become the instruments of such national policy. The powers reserved to the States respectively, or to the people, have been terribly usurped. WE THE PEOPLE must exert our strengths and resources to reverse the course and constrain the tyranny of our government.

Captain Steve Seal, USN Retired. Currently serving as a NJROTC instructor at Henry County High. He has been instrumental in developing the Henry County HS NJROTC rifle team and before that Luella High's rifle team. He constantly mentors young men and women and has helped to steer many towards their career goals. Several of his young cadets have earned admission to US Military academies. Currently the Henry County (read that as Henry County School system in general) NJROTC program is producing nationally acclaimed marksmen. Much of that is due to Capt. Steve Seal. The man is developing leaders.

The View from Iowa

Greetings from Urbandale, Iowa. As I write this, its 19 degrees with a 5 degree wind chill. A number of us from Georgia are here working on presidential campaigns leading up to the Iowa caucuses (elections) scheduled for the evening of January 3rd. We all felt like this election is important enough for us to fly or drive the 1000 miles to this spot in order to be a part of history and to have an impact on what happens in our country. Urbandale, a bedroom community of office parks and neat, single family homes is a western suburb of Des Moines. There is no snow this year so we can see lawns that have been taken care of while snow plows and clearing equipment sitting unused. Shopping centers and business parking lots all have their own snow removal equipment in order to stay open in even the most severe storms. There is no such thing here as a "snow jam" as we are famous for around Atlanta. Locals do not head home via the grocery store when the first flake falls or is predicted. The presidential caucuses here are very different from what we are familiar with in Georgia. The election is much closer in style to a Georgia governor's race in intensity with continual television and radio ads, workers making live and recorded phone calls and candidate bus tours around the state. Because Iowa is a small state in population, just over three million or about 2/3s the size of metro Atlanta, it is possible to saturate the population with your political message assuming the money is available to reach that goal. Several of the candidates have done just that during this cycle. There are few similarities between Georgia elections and the actual voting in Iowa. We are all familiar with heading off to our polling place or the court house to vote. Instead of that system, the caucuses are public, evening gathering where people group themselves by candidate and actually raise their hands or count heads to gather votes. There is no requirement that the participants attending be registered with that political party, just show up, sign in and participate. The Iowa vote has an uneven history of supporting the eventual nominee of the Republican Party. In 2008, Governor Mike Huckabee won here but fell short of the eventual nomination. I am told that the state caucuses have only voted with the GOP nominee only three times since 1976. Most of the campaign offices have also been visited by the "Occupy Des Moines" individuals. We were visited on Saturday afternoon by three busloads of the so called Occupiers who parked across the street and yelled at us for a short while before approaching the police who also were here blocking us from them. The police were very outnumbered and gave ground until the demonstrators got to our building and made a short effort to pound on the windows before moving back to their buses in search of their next target. Of course there was much media here, it is clear the occupiers coordinate with the press to get maximum coverage. The caucuses are the evening of January 3rd. The results will be known shortly thereafter and I will be in my car heading for home early the next morning after having arrived here December 27th. Was it worth the time and expense? Absolutely. Being involved in trying to help shape the future of our country is always worth the effort. For those who feel alienated from the political process, I believe you can have an impact if you try. It is much tougher than sitting on a couch complaining but far more rewarding. The Georgia Presidential Primary is March 6. I hope we will have a great turnout in our counties and that our state will be influential in deciding the nominees of both parties. The only way that will happen is if average citizens get involved. I recommend it greatly.

started 12:01 AM January 1st! There are so many things that I wish to achieve for our city ... financial stability, retention of business, addition of new business, sidewalks for our neighbors who walk behind the Food Depot, help for our neighbors who live in Ansley Park, positive resolutions for our neighbors who live in Winslow, employment and better jobs, etc. Before assuming office, I have actually been helping our citizens and local business community - not wanting to wait until my term actually began! - One citizen pointed-out a dangerous traffic condition at Nolan Street & S. Berry Street so police traffic reports about the intersection have been ordered AND I have moved forward to implement a 4-way STOP here! - On another note, a long-time city business partner (owner) told me they were looking to relocate and, great news, I have been able to encourage them to remain in Stockbridge!! They are now actively looking at several sites within our Highway 138 corridor! This is just the start of things to come.... My "Oath of Office" ceremony is this coming Monday evening, January 9, at 7PM in Stockbridge City Hall Council Chambers and I sincerely hope that you will be able to attend this important event! Is This What We Fought For?

President Obama, ironically, a Nobel Peace prize laureate, drove America deeply into yet another military conflict. We were already spread thin between Iraq, Afghanistan, and dozens of other global locations where we have troops stationed. We were war weary and increasingly ready to bring more of our military women and men home. And yet Obama saw fit in March 2011 to involve our armed forces with the Libyan insurgency. We set aside, for a moment, the fact that most Americans were uninterested in committing our troops in Libya. Rasmussen polls found that only 45% of voters agreed with the Presidents decision to take military action in Libya in mid-March, and that has plunged down to only 32% in a October 14, 2011 Rasmussen poll. Few were excited about the no boots on the ground mentality naively espoused by the Obama administration and nobody liked his suggestion that U.S. troops would be under the control of the U.N. And, why did we practically ignore other humanitarian needs in the region, such as those in Somalia, Darfur, or Uganda and rush in to help Libya? Some said oil, and others suggested that Gadhafis head would be yet another feather in the cap of Obama, whose approval numbers were declining rapidly. But now that the end game of the Libyan rebellion is beginning to unfold, we consider with great horror what Obama may have intended all along. In a celebration in Benghazi on October 23, a mere three days after their tyrants death, Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, Chairman of the National Transitional Council of Libya, declared to thousands of supporters that post-Gadhafi Libya would utilize Islamic Sharia law as the prime inspiration for new legislation. Gadhafi was no stranger to Sharia, but he espoused something closer to Islamic socialism. Those who follow in the wake of his death desire to drive Libya far deeper into the abyss of Sharia dogma. Did anyone know or suspect that Libya would turn to Sharia with such frightening speed and certainty? Did

anyone on our side sit down and talk with these individuals before we committed resources to this effort and ask them what their end game was? Did we send our brave men and women into harms way and fund this ridiculous escapade only to help create an Islamic Sharia state? But again, the more horrifying question is, What exactly did Obama know? Two possibilities exist. One is that the Obama administration completely did not know the intentions of the Libyan revolt. While I hope this to be true, it still does not alleviate from them the responsibility of doing some due diligence: Did anyone investigate these rebels? Ask some questions? Do a background check!?! If the Obama administration and the UN teamed up to help the Libyan resurgence without asking what they intended if Gadhafi were removed, than that would be an executive oversight of epic proportion. And, I hope that this is what happened, for the alternative is even more horrifying. That other possibility is that Obama knew exactly what the Libyans would do, and it was precisely for this reason that he committed American troops and funds to the effort, rather than assist with other humanitarian needs in the area. Remember, also, he committed troops without congressional approval, despite criticizing Bushs handling of Iraq. While few doubt that, in a national emergency, the president can order troops into action; any sustained engagement must be approved by Congress. This isnt a technicality: Its embedded in the U. S. Constitution, mainly, article one, section eight (remember, this is the same Commander-in-chief who taught constitutional law!). The speed with which Obama dodged the Constitution to help the Libyan rebel reassert Sharia law in Libya makes Obamas motives for committing U.S. troops quite suspect. I will say as strongly as I possibly can in this PG rated web journal: I am as unhappy as heck that my tax money went to catapult an entire nation backward into the Sharia mentality of the Dark Ages!! And I am irate at the possibility that Obama may have known the revolution's end game. The Libyans not only ousted a leader, but they introduced a new tyrant, namely Sharia despotism; and Obama sat on the sidelines and watched incompetently or purposefully. If he didnt bother determine what the intended result was for the Libyan rebellion, then shame on Obama. If he knew what their end game was and supported them anyway, then shame on the American people for voting a Shariaphile into the White House.

A Word on T-SPLOST
I have been asked this question many times this week. "What is you position on TSPLOST"? I am against the passage of T-SPLOST whether I will be a candidate or not. I have to tell you that the big boys and girls north of us has finally figured out a way for us to help pay for their transit system. I understand why they are in favor. What I don't understand is how some of our legislators took the bait. The elected officials that have taken a stand to support T-SPLOST have lost their election. The first to fall was the Mayor of Fayetteville. This person was on the executive round table. The same will hold true in Henry County. T-SPLOST will fail in Henry County and the candidates that support it will fail as well. I felt compelled to share this with you since I am in a Vet mode. I have to share this with you as well. When running for Mayor, my opposition went so far as to remove the sheet rock in my closet. I am hoping I will vet well for this race. Thank you and Happy New Year, Tommy N. Smith

How to Unseat a Chairman

Any politician it doesnt matter who, when they are unseated from office it is because of their own design. Nine out of ten of them are unseated because of not being the person they represented themselves to be at the beginning. The voters are far more intelligent than they are given credit to be and this weighs heavily in the equation. Henry County has been no stranger to those who seek prominence and power. And to what end, but to take and seldom return. There has been a builder, a private businessman, a lawyer, a realtor, and a religious person to hold the helm of chairman during the heyday of Henry County. The average citizens who live in Henry County worry about a home to live in, putting food on the table, keeping their jobs, educating their children, and trying to elect those they feel will take care of the things that matter which are the essential services. They want to see their tax dollar spent wisely without adding prominence to those elected to the job, because that doesnt matter to them. As Henry County began to grow the builder who held the position let rampant development come to Henry County. It became evident that the powerful developers had more power and influence with the county government than those who elected the leadership. And of course the builder would be voted out for that reason. He forgot that the developers couldn't keep him in office. Again the citizens spoke their mind at the ballot box. Then the private businessman was elected in the hopes he could curb some of the development. Again he failed due to cronyism and not being able to fit into the job. The citizens needed the assurance that this person could not provide. Then the people looked to a younger man who knew the laws and filled them with hope. But as time passed it became aware to the people that he was really no different from the previous two. He wouldn't even finish the job he was elected to do as the governor appointed him as a judge. His destiny would not be fulfilled by the citizens. When he left the position, then the vice-chairman who happened to be a realtor would take over the job for a short time as a new chairman was waiting in the wings. He had little to no power in the job. This newly elected chairman was already a sitting commissioner. She would be the first woman elected as chairman in Henry County, and she came from a religious background, which is just fine. She was elected

onto the board originally due to her mother and the seat she sought was an easy target. She spoke the words the citizens wanted to hear: controlled growth, more greenspace, less government. Now lets see what has transpired during this tenure: 1. She pushed to buy 202 acres of land on the premise that it was a central battleground of the Civil War. This cost the taxpayers over $8 million. 2. She helped to acquire a golf course for the county for some $20 million. They recently voted to rent it to the original owner for $2,000 a month. It should take about ten years to recoup the money. 3. She would push to help a businessman who was a friend to open a film studio but the deal fell through. That same person was a benefactor in her election for chairman. He had a seat on the county board of health and hospital board. (He would leave these positions just before being arrested for child abuse and molestation. The chairman knew nothing about his personal activities and she would not be associated with any person such as this if she knew it.) 4. She would bring an airport to the county for $2.2 million. The FAA put $15 million into the deal, but it is all money garnered from the taxpayers no matter where it comes. 5. She would have to let 57 people go from their jobs because of no money, but a week later the county bought the airport. This doesnt look good. 6. She is pushing for a parallel road to I-75 to benefit her friends. This is part of the upcoming T-SPLOST. Which will be more taxes. She would be on the ARC committee to get money for roads here and most of the money went to the north side as usual. 7. She is currently pushing for a new fiber optics system. The citizens are wondering how many jobs this will cost. The chairman is a wonderful mother, wife and a very nice person to speak with, but she uses poor judgment in the matters of the people. 1. Of what value to the average citizen has been the buying of a farm? 2. Of what value to the average citizen has been the buying of a golf course? 3. Of what value is a road on the west side of I-75 to the average person? (We have a road on the east side that could be extended to Jonesboro Rd.) 4. Of what value is buying an airport to the average person? Now the bottom line is this: we have a county that has one of the highest tax bases in the nation. We have a county with a fall-off of property values that has led to virtual disaster. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. The The The The The builder promoted rash development. businessman fought with everyone. lawyer waved bye as he got a new job. realtor just filled in. religious person has been swept into the same trap as the predecessors.

And at what cost to the citizens: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Higher property taxes. Lower property values. Loss of jobs. Loss of essential services. Waste of taxpayers money. Failures in businesses. Failures in banks.

Remember the average citizen wants a roof over their heads, food on the table, educated children, and a job that will pay for all this. When looking for the next chairman, look to see if they promote the needs of the citizens and not their needs which should be the same as the average person. Its not the prominent people, the rich, the up an coming, or elite who make Henry County, it is the average citizen who will make or break the future by electing the right person for them. It is we the people who have the power to guide our system with the vote.

Moderate road won't beat Obama

By Holly Robichaud, Boston Herald If Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich gets an Iowa bump, as Huckabee did, you can expect establishment

Republicans to once again pound the message that voters have to nominate a moderate to win the presidency. This theory makes sense for the commonwealth, because we are the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts. Thats why U.S. Sen. Scott Brown does not vote as conservatively as we all want. However, the rest of the nation is not Massachusetts, so GOP voters can hold out for a Ronald Reagan conservative. For years the Democrats believed they could not nominate an ultra-left-winger and win the presidency. That was one of the major reasons given in 2004 to end Vermonts former Gov. Howard Deans candidacy. Obama trashed that hypothesis. Compared to Barack, Hillary Clinton looks like Margaret Thatcher. In 2008, Republicans dutifully nominated U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). Despite publicly criticizing then-President George W. Bush on federal spending, McCain was otherwise an establishment moderate because of his record of being part of the Senate Gang of 14 and a supporter of amnesty for ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. When Republicans select a moderate, the nominee cannot run to the middle to win over voters. Actually, the candidate has to do the opposite to make sure there is no base abandonment. Moderation can impel Republicans to stay home rather than vote, as we saw in the disastrous 2006 and 2008 elections. GOP voters were angry at our elected officials for increasing spending, growing entitlements, etc. They repaid them by refusing to vote. Being a shrewd politician, McCain tried to motivate the base by picking Alaskas Gov. Sarah Palin. It wasnt enough to retain conservative voters when he stumbled over the market meltdown, and in the end, even moderates such as Colin Powell ditched McCain. We have been there and done this moderate candidacy against Obama. Are we going to repeat this unsuccessful model?

Vote Like Your Future Depends On It Because it Does
2012 is finally upon us and while many are making resolutions for personal ambitions, there is one task that we should all resolve to do in the new year: vote like our future depends on it, because the truth is it does. For far too long, we as Americans had given in to the status quo and we had come to accept the lack-luster representation we were receiving from our elected officials. In 2009, the tea party movement sparked a wave across the country that opened the eyes of many Americans. We finally began to speak up against cronyism, corruption, and irresponsibility. 2012 will be no different. As one of the most important election years in American history begins, we wanted to share with you what some local tea party activists are looking for in their elected officials as we prepare to go to the polls over the course of the New Year. The first of these is that he or she must be conservative. By this I don't mean the popular press' idea that this term describes an ideology, because it isn't. You don't just "become" a conservative because you need to move right to win an election. Conservatives have principles. As a conservative, there are certain character qualities and basic understandings that are important for me to see in a candidate, even more so than answers to specific policy questions. It's these basic understandings and quality of character that determine a person's response to policy questions: Consistently conservative values in opinion and lifestyle, both public and private. A clear understanding of the free market system and it's importance in a growth economy. Faith in liberty, and the opportunities and sense of responsibility that liberty will provide in a truly free society. A clear understanding of the threats to our liberties and the need to address them, both here and abroad. True leadership skills-the ability to make tough decisions in tough times with integrity and clarity.

A clear understanding of the limits, and the responsibilities, of the Federal government. A belief in the greatness of our country, and the principles that made it great. I could continue, but a basic understanding we must all have is that there is no such thing as the perfect human being, nor the perfect candidate, only the best. As Americans, we must always set the bar high, strive for the best and choose a President, Senator, State Rep. etc., that reflects that American spirit."
