In what way are we doing greater works than the Lord Jesus did?

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. [John 14:12] It is so sad to see untaught minds use this verse to mean things that it does not. There is a place where scripture should be interpreted literally and there are places where the spiritual meaning or the broader scope of a certain verse should be considered. What greater work could there be than raising the dead?! And Christ raised the dead! Both the physically dead and the spiritual! Verily, verily, I say unto you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. [John 5:25] The master also said, And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. [Mark 16:17,18] To prove the above verse a few so called believers have drank poison and have succumbed to it. And there have been not a few vain persons who have tried to handle serpents etc and died in the attempt, all because of a false interpretation of John 14:12,

and Mark 16:17,18. I wonder if Hosea 4:6 [My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge] applies here? He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do [John 14:12] Greater works? Yes! But not in nature and kind, but greater in their effects. The believers after the Lords ascension made a deeper impression on mankind. They were attended with more extensive results. They were the means of the conversion of more sinners. The works of Jesus were confined to Judea and the nearby villages as you have pointed out. They were seen but by few. The works of the apostles on the contrary were witnessed by many nations, and the effect of their miracles and preaching was that thousands from among both the Jews and Gentiles were converted to the Christian faith. The Master Himself declared that He was not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. [Matt 15:24] And except for a Samaritan woman here and a Canaanite woman there He hardly reached out to the gentiles. But after His resurrection, it was Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. [Mark 16:15] And with the invention of the electronic media, the Gospel has gone into nooks and corners which the Apostles could not have dreamed of! But in spite of all the means at hand, no Kingdom work gets accomplished except the Lord be in it! Without Me ye can do nothing! [John 15:5].

And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. [Mark 16:20]
