PROOFS OF GODS EXISTENCE

1. The complexity of our planet directs us to a thoughtful Creator who not only made the universe but also sustains it.
a. Earth - its perfect size and corresponding gravity - only planet with an atmosphere of right mixture of gases to sustain plant, animal, and human life - located at the right distance from the sun - temperature from -30 to +120 C

- remains in a perfect distance while rotating at a speed of 67,000 mph - rotating on its axis allowing the Earths surface to be properly warmed and cooled

b. Moon - perfect size and distance from the earth and its gravitational pull - creates important ocean tides and movement so ocean waters do not stagnate and yet our massive oceans are restrained from spilling over across the continents c. Water - colorless, odorless, and tasteless and yet no living thing can survive without it - plants, animals, and human beings consist mostly of water

- allows us to live in an environment of fluctuating temperature changes (hot and cold) - universal solvent - chemically neutral d. Human Brain - simultaneously processes an amazing amount of information - holds and processes all your emotions, thoughts and memories - keeps track of the ongoing functions of your body

- processes more than a million messages a second - weighs the importance of all this data, filtering out the relatively unimportant - has an intelligence to it, the ability to reason, to produce feelings, to dream and plan, to take action, and relate to other people e. Eye -can distinguish among seven million colors - has automatic focusing and handles an astounding 1.5 million messages -simultaneously

2. The universe had a start, what caused it?

a. Scientists (Big Bang Theory) - our universe began with one enormous explosion of energy and light - the beginning of the universe, the start of space, and even the initial start of time itself

b. Astrophysicist : Robert Jastrow - every star, every planet and every living creature in the Universe came into being as a result of events that were set in motion in the moment of the cosmic explosion...The Universe flashed into being, and we cannot find out what caused that to happen. c. Physicist : Steven Weinberg - "the universe was about a hundred thousands million degrees Centigrade...and the universe was filled with light."

3. The universe operates by uniform laws of nature? Why does it?

- gravity remains consistent - Earth rotates in the same 24 hours - Earth is tilted on its axis about 23.5 degrees from perpendicular; does not change as it revolves around the sun - speed of light doesnt change

4. The DNA code tells and programs a cells behavior

- DNA code in our cells is very similar to that
of a computer program (1s and 0s) - made up of four chemicals (A,T,C,G) and are arranged like CGTGTGACTCGCTCCTGA

- there are three billions of these letters in every human cell

- DNA instructs the cell like a computer program - DNA are not just chemicals; they are chemicals that instruct, that code in a very detailed way exactly how the person's body should develop - You cannot find instruction, precise information like this, without someone intentionally constructing it.

5. St. Thomas Aquinas Proofs

a. The Proof from Motion - Whatever is in motion now was at rest until moved by something else, and that by something else, and so on. - actual motion could never have got started, and there would be no motion now if there were infinite series of movers waiting to be moved - there is motion now so there must be a First Mover which is not unmoved and that would be God

b. The Proof from Efficient Cause

- everything in this world has its maker and that maker has its maker, and so on - if there were just an infinite series of such makers, the series could never have got started, and therefore be nothing now - there has been a Maker , that did not made itself, and that would be God

c. The Proof from Necessary vs. Possible Being - if everything were merely possible, there would have been a time, long ago, when nothing had yet come to be - nothing comes from nothing, so in that case there would be nothing now - since there is everything (the world), there must be at least one necessary being and that is God

d. The Proof from Degrees of Perfection - we have certain standards of how things and people should be - we would have no such standards unless there were some being that is perfect in every way, and that is God

e. The Proof from Design - we see ample evidence of design today - if there is design, there must be a designer and that is God

6. Jesus Christ, the clearest, most specific picture of God revealing Himself
- said God exists and you're looking at him - said that anyone who had seen Him had seen the Father, anyone who believed in him, believed in the Father - I am the light of the world, he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. - claimed attributes belonging only to God - "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but through me."
