Title: Things Fall Apart Author: Chinua Achebe Date and Year: Published: Literary Type: Characters: Okonkwo- The central character and the young leader of the African Igbo Community of Umuofia.He is known as a fierce warrior as well as a successful farmer. Unoka- Okonkwo s father, known for his weakness and lack of responsibility. Nwoye-Okonkwo s oldest son, age 12 at the beginning of the novel. He is innately a sensitive young man. Ikemefuna- A boy of 14 who is given to Umuofia by a neighboring village to avoid war. Ekwefi- Okonkwo s Second wife; the mother of Ezinma, her only living child. Ezinma- Daughter of Ekwefi and Okonkwo; Ekwefi s only surviving child. Ojiubo-Okonkwo s Third wife the mother of several of Okonkwo s children. Obierika-Okonkwo s bestfriend- who represents the voice of reason. Chielo-a village widow and also the priestess of Agbala. Mr. Brown the first wife Christian Missionary of Umuofia and Mbanta. The Reverend James Smith- As Stereotypical White Christian Missionary, He takes over the church after Mr. Brown s depature Major: They are fighting in order to have a great population. Minor: They all have many differences. Settings: Umuofia in Eastern Nigerea

Summary:

Things Fall Apart, deals with the clash of cultures and the violent transitions in life and values brought about by the onset of British Colonialism in Nigeria at the end of the nineteenth century. The bulk of the novel takes place in Umuofia, a cluster of nine villages on the lower Niger. Umuofia is a powerful clan, Skilled in war and with a great population, with proud traditions, and advance social institutions. Okonkwo has risen from nothing to high position and a man of importance in his tribe. He is a respected and influential leader within the Igbo community of Umuofia in Eastern Nigerea. He first earns personal fame and distinction, and brings honor to his village. Because Okonkwo is a leader of his community, he asked to care for a young boy named Ikemefuna, who is given to the village as a peace offering by neighboring and Mbaino to avoid war with Umuofia. Over the years, Okonkwo becomes extremely volatile man.

Climax: Because of his ambitions he will do everything even the worst thing, like killing Ikemefuna as part of retribution for the Umuofia. And the time passes by, he encounter many problems so he decided to leave the village. The village has change, the clansmen and the villager has change.

The Most Interesting Part: When Okonkwo jumps forward and beheads the man in charge of the messengers with his machete. When none of the order clansmen attempt to stop the messengers who escape Okonkwo realizes that they will never go to war and that Umuofia will surrender.

The Weakest Part: Everything has fallen apart for Okonkwo, he commits suicide by hanging himself.

Moral Lesson: No matter how powerful you are, you have no right to make people become miserable. And we will always remember that LOVE, CARE, and a GOOD LEADER are the most powerful more than anything in this world.
