EFIBCA Voice of the Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container Industry

Dear Associate, The FIBC industry has been party to an enormous globalization and consolidation process during the past decade. To reflect this and accommodate the shifting needs of our members and the industry as a whole, we had to adopt significant changes in our Association policy. These changes include opening the Association membership to non-European FIBC Companies in order to properly reflect the increasing influence of non-European players in the market. Furthermore, we simplified the membership categories to create equal status for manufacturers and traders: a step necessary to provide a fair platform for the growing trading sector within the European FIBC business. Throughout the necessary transformation, it remained a key focus for us to maintain the core strengths of EFIBCA which have fortified its global reputation over almost 30 years; its strong and trustful relationships with FIBC user industries and legislative bodies on the one hand and its ability to keep pace with the challenging shifts in the business environment on the other hand. EFIBCA also remains true to the relentless promotion of quality standards; a mission which has been the driving force of the Association since it was established in 1983. This led to the publication of the first FIBC standard by EFIBCA in 1985 subsequently becoming the best known and most widely adopted standard worldwide. Quality is still the most important concern of our customers and we take it very seriously. EFIBCA has dedicated a special committee to set up quality criteria and assurance procedures for Big Bags. This committee will soon come up with a unique quality mark, the EFIBCA-Cert which will be promoted throughout the industry. We think that striving for ever improving standards of quality and safety should be voluntary and foremost in most of our members priorities and assume that all our members will take the opportunity to participate in the EFIBCA-Cert quality scheme. In 2008, we introduced Open Meetings as a new communication platform to bring all stakeholders of the FIBC business together and discuss the latest news and trends impacting our industry. Through such activities, we help promote FIBCs as a unique high performance, cost effective, environmentally attractive and versatile packaging medium for the industry. This very successful event is held at least every two years as a result of tremendous support of members and users. The constantly increasing number of full and associate members at EFIBCA is an indication for me that we are on the right track to meet the requirements of our marketplace. I am very honoured to be part of this successful Association and thank all of you for your continued support and positive feedback.

Dr Amir Samadijavan, President of EFIBCA

EFIBCA Activity Highlights

Bosporus cruise at the EFIBCA Annual Meeting 2010 EFIBCA Annual Meetings Every years highlights are EFIBCAs Annual Meeting where all members get the chance to meet in order to adopt important decisions and to discuss the associations priorities and activities. Of course, the social part of the meetings is not to be neglected. EFIBCA Open Meetings EFIBCA Open Meetings are the perfect platform for information and networking across the FIBC industry. Experts give insights into new developments affecting the industry, ranging from the raw material market to end-of-life solutions of FIBC, and from safety to corporate social responsibility. This is the ideal time and place to meet up with customers and peers. EFIBCAs third Open Meeting is taking place on 11 May 2011 in Dsseldorf. FIBC Import Statistics The FIBC import statistics inform about the value of FIBC imports to the European Union and give a ranking of the top exporting countries to the EU. They are regularly published in the EFIBCA newsletter. EFIBCA-Cert EFIBCA-Cert is the new quality scheme of EFIBCA. It is based on a set of quality criteria that are independently assured. The quality criteria range from general requirements according to the European packaging directive to specific requirements for food contact, transportation of dangerous goods, static protective and hygiene bags. Participation in EFIBCACert is voluntary and open to all EFIBCA full members.

EFIBCA Newsletter Since 2010, EFIBCA issues a biannual newsletter. The newsletter informs about EFIBCAs latest activities as well as about new legislation, standards and technologies, and FIBC market news. The FIBC import statistics form an integral part of the newsletter as well as the FIBC calendar that gives an overview on upcoming EFIBCA meetings and external events such as international fairs. ICHCA International Safety Panel Briefing Pamphlet No 9: Safe Use of Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBCs) This comprehensive publication informs the FIBC user about all safety relevant aspects during the processes of filling, emptying, transportation, stacking and storing of FIBCs. The first edition of this joint publication of EFIBCA and ICHCA International Limited dates back to 1996, was then revised in 2004 and is currently again under revision.
