Professional Development Plan (Steps or Strategies) to Support Action Steps (if applicable): [from 4, 4a, 4b, & 4c] Training Lara Kendall teachers in Thinking Maps will provide some consistant teaching stratgies in our elementary and middle school grades. Trainers from Margaret Newton will train the teachers. They will be able to discuss the use of maps and any problems that might arise during the common planning time provided twice each month. During this time teachers will use data to plan instruction. All teachers in grades 3-8 will be trained to use the programs in the "Follow the Leaders" project. This will allow teachers to very quickly develop benchmark tests for each grade. In addition, teachers will be able to develop tests based on the curriculum to use as often as they want in their own classrooms. In order to build capacity for parental involvement in the Lake County Schools, a representative from each school will attend a Family Friendly Training with Dr. Steve Constantino.
Parent & Community Involvement (Steps or Strategies) to Support Action Steps (if applicable): [from 4, 4a, 4b, & 4c] SERVICES: Each school will hold an annual meeting to explain test scores and available school programs to parents. Links to the system and state report cards will be on the system web-site. Homework and curriculum link will be on the website for parents to assist their students with homework. Teachers will send home specific skills that children will be working on each six-weeks. Parents of at-risk children will be contacted and tutoring will be offered to these students. The system will establish a Family Resource Center to assist families in locating appropriate resources. The system will coordinate services with Headstart, Evenstart and other local programs to ensure that all students have a smooth transition to school and enter school with the appropriate skills necessary to be successful. Career Awareness programs will be developed to help students prepare for life after high school. Each school will establish and support a PTO. COMMUNICATION: Establish an Advisory Council consisting for parent and community representatives who will review policies, evaluate programs, and assist school officials with future plans and program development. The council will hold annual meetings and receive quarterly updates from the system. School events will be published in the local newspaper, posted on the website, and displayed on signs at each school. Parent conferences will be held during times that are convenient for most parents. Other times may be scheduled by individuals. Policies and procedures that effect students will be included in the student handbook. These policies will also be explained to parents at an annual meeting. Any questions about policies and procedures can be addressed with school officials and/or advisory council members.
All parents and guardians are expected to participate fully in their childs education by taking advantage of opportunities that are provided and by making
