learning process whereby it captivates more the interests and participation of students as well as triggers learners excitement.

Such influence facilitates a retention of mathematical principles and concepts because it touches the metacognition processes of students. Similarly, the study conducted by Tubera (2001) where the use of CAT was employed in the teaching of Zoology at Davao Doctors College exhibited relatively the same result in terms of increase in the post test scores of students exposed to CAT as compared to those oniy subjected to traditional method of teaching. In the study conducted by Molina, Jr. (2001),. where the Computer Literacy of Teachers at Iloilo National High School was tested, the findings showed that although the study revealed that computer literacy was not significantly related to the teaching competency, it is important to find means to make teaching work easier to perform by giving teachers, opportunities to make use of computers. Sharing this finding was the study conducted by Dollado, Jr. (2002) who found out that majority of the respondents needed computer training. He further mentioned that adeqtrate fund is needed to support the program. The human resource development of teachers and administrators of Calbayog Pilot Central School had slight knowledge in computers. Moreover, they lack training in computers as well as the technical skills hence, they needed mores exposure to computers. Thus, computer education program for teachers is very necessary. Bullangay (2001) in her study, pointed out that CAT is used purposely for instructjon and learning, constant use of computers in school has helped the students skills and creativity. Use of CAT was found to be advantageousr because it makes students interactive and become more independent learners. CAT is an effective educational tool which also helps them maintain their academic achievement. Based from the different views presented in this study, it is evident that technology is fast changing and teachers have to keep abreast or one - from the experts and hoped to have a more humane approach to technology with a keen of values; 3. And, on its contribution tO government, the proposed program can help the government to sufficiently meet the growing demand for technicians and hardware specialists, both locally and internationally. All of the above studies and literature have contributed greatly in putting direction on the present study. The researchers have provided the researcher valuable insights on how to go about the problem. The present study, however, differs in terms of respondents and research environment. Relevance of Reviewed Literature and Studies The reviewed literature and studies provided vital information that aided the researcher in conceptualizing her study on computer literacy as an approach in enhancing teaching performance of high school teachers.

The reviewed foreign and local literatures have one thing in common, and that is, computers are powerful tools that can do numerous tasks that would seem impossible to be done by humans. This was validated by local literature and studies conducted on the same topic. The same is observed in this study that dealt with computers as tools that enhance teaching performance. As Gordon, Tanner and Kleiman stressed in their written, works, these tools, though how powerful and flexible they may seem, need propcr handling for them to serve their purpose. This is parallel to the present study which views that these tools should be appropriately used for them to operate effectively on the specified task. The researcher shared the view of Builen and Quinn that with these tools, the fact still remains that learning is still on the business of promoting cognitive change. This is similar to the present study that computers are forms of media that teachers can use to improve or uplift the teaching- learning process. The same is true on the work made by Wiske that these tools are not instant remedies for a dry curriculum and didactic instruction. The researcher, in this study, believes that there is the presence of tendencies wherein the new technology will answer all problems in education. This is one wrong notion that this study would like to stress. Though Vaughn, Bos and Schum believed that the best known tool is the computer, this studs still believes in the capability of the human mind. Nothing can still beat the power of the human brain. The reviewed local literature of Espiritu and Carnarao shard the same sentiment on certain problem areas faced by local schools in terms of physical facilities, funding and more pressing educational needs that hinder the improvement of the educational system in terms of technology and modernization. This is similar in this study where the problems presented also ze;o in on the small number of computers found in schools as well as very minimal funding to support the computerization program. The use of computer-assisted-instruction, as cited in the foreign studies of Lowe and Bickel showed the effectiveness of developmental education courses that can improve to bridge the gap between high school and college which is related to this study since the researchers aim in presenting this work is also, somehow, bridging the gap between teachers and students in terms of teaching and learning enhancement through the use of computers. The studies of Geban, Askar and Ozkan of the Middle East Technical University in Turkey and the study of George and Hoiiy Thompson on computer simulatiqn stressed that it is an alternative to a more effective teaching. This study is not as in-depth on that approach since computer education in many public schools are still behind in many aspects due to lack of facilities and technical support. This study is similar to the work of Godett and Gordon in terms of teacher training to equip them of knowledge, attitudes and skills to enable them to perform task as mentors and to grow professionally. The researcher,

in this study, believe that knowledge, concepts and skills are basic tools that can advance and enhance the teaching-learning process and outcome. Pasino, Baesa, Uy Gaw, Tubera and Bullangay have similar opinions based on their studies that computer-assisted-instruction (CAl) is an effective educational tool as shown in their findings that this helped maintain academic achievement as well as made students become interactive and more independent learnrs. This is parallel to this study since its goal is to present computer literacy as an aid to teachers in performing their tasks. The reviewed foreign and local literature and studies served as a springboard in the reinforcement of the interpretation of the findings of the present study. Significance of the Study Interviews and questionnaires revealed the needs on the different aspects of the teaching performances of teachers which will be the basis for more emphasis in adopting an approach which will enhance their performances and this is computer literacy among teachers. The necessary steps may be taken to uplift the quality of education among students. The results that were gathered from this study may serve as model foii other teachers in conducting their studies in their own or different schools and will be beneficial to the following: Administrators - The findings of this study may serve as an eye opener to school administration to be able to adopt, plan and implement a program geared towards the enhancement of the teaching performance and improving the school criitl This will also guide them in formulating a comprehensive plan with information technology learning. Teachers The teacher may be encouraged by the result of the bz findings of this study regarding the use of Computer-Asssted Instruction and its effects on their performance across subject areas. The information will guide them to re-evaluate their teaching strategies and properly use the current strategies that will make them keep abreast with the rapid changes Iii the educational system. This may also give them ideas on innovative classroom instruction to motivate students to learn. They may be able to perform their tasks easily and effectively. It may lessen the preparation time on the lessons so the fcus is more on the students. It may facilitate the: delivery of the subject matter faster, more interestingly and more accurately. Curriculum Planners -- Findings of this study may be utilized as reference material in suggesting curriculum improvement to produce graduates who are globally competitive. Parents Through Computer-Assisted-Instruction (CAT) parents may be able to provide their children with a more relevant and functional type. of education. Students - Students may have more access to fact and infe;mation that could enhance their learning process in all subject areas. It may develop Theoretical Framework

This study of computer literacy as an approach to teaching competency of th Las Piflas North National High School teachers is anchored on several theories like the Competence Theory of Robert White. technological skills among students on how to maximize the use of information technology in facilitating cognitive and motor skills. Future Researchers The results may hopefully contribute to many views about computer-aided instruction and reinforce the very few quantitative researchers related to it. This may give information on the importance of computer as an instructional material in the educative community
