Common and complex: commissioning effective dementia services in the new world Alzheimers Society and MHP This report makes recommendations to improve dementia outcomes in the context of the Governments health and social care reforms. http://www.mhpc.com/blog/common-and-complex-commissioning-effective-dementiaservices-new-world Report of the National Audit of Dementia Care in General Hospitals 2011 Royal College of Psychiatrists This audit shows that, although the majority of wards meet basic safety requirements, many had not addressed simple measures that could lessen the distress caused to dementia patients by an unfamiliar and confusing hospital environment. University of York This paper models individual expenditure using diagnostic information from previous hospital spells, plus a large set of attributed variables measuring population, general practice, and local hospital characteristics. It describes a procedure for setting budgets for general practices which reduces the problem of the lags in the available data. Co-production for health: a new model for a radically new world: Building new approaches to delivery to achieve better health outcomes at the local level NHS Solutions for Public Health This report is based on a national colloquium exploring how organisations can start to positively use the new arrangements for public health and commissioning. Gastrointestinal infections annual report, 2010 Health Protection Agency This report looks at outbreaks of specific infections, and the role of surveillance systems for these diseases. http://www.hpa.org.uk/Publications/InfectiousDiseases/GastrointestinalOutbreaksAndIllnessR eports/1112Gastrointestinalinfections2010/ Migrant Health: Infectious diseases in non-UK born populations in the UK Health Protection Agency The report concludes that the majority of long-term migrants to the UK are young people with plans to study or work, and they will have a similar range of health concerns to UK born people in the same age bracket. A small proportion of the non-UK born bear the greatest burden of infectious disease reported in the UK. http://www.hpa.org.uk/Publications/InfectiousDiseases/TravelHealth/1112Migranthealth/ Tuberculosis in the UK: 2011 report Health Protection Agency The authors conclude that recent potential decline in the incidence of tuberculosis, after nearly two decades of increasing rates, is encouraging. Neurological Conditions
Services for people with neurological conditions National Audit Office This audit concludes that since the National Service Framework for Long-term Conditions was introduced in 2005, people with neurological conditions have had better access to health services; but key indicators of quality have worsened. Workforce
Census of consultant physicians and medical registrars in the UK, 2010 Royal College of Physicians The report states that the NHS remains reliant on doctors working longer than their contracted hours, and the number of hours consultants are contracted to work has fallen slightly as hospitals work to make efficiency savings. This consultation paper seeks views on recommendations from the working group for changes to the current policy on HIVinfected healthcare workers.
