Actress Kim Sun Ah recently talked about going on a diet for her new weekend drama, Scent of a Woman.

She said, I lost a lot of weight because I was going to play a character who was dying. Filming was continuously pleasant, but as a dying character, I had to become thin. The director did feel sorry about it, but I wish he had focused more on the dramas story rather than my outer appearance. For four months, I ate rice once a day and slept for about two hours a day. It was really difficult, but I wanted to devote myself to the role. To be honest, a lot of people ask me about my diet, but I truthfully do not want to tell them. It was very painful and intolerable. More than anything, I am afraid of people of following me because the diet is not a healthy one. I really enjoy exercising, but given the conditions, I couldnt do it often. After Im done with this project, I plan on using that chance to train my body again. My mental health is still good. The new drama, Scent of a Woman, will air its first episode on July 23rd. Kim Sun Ah stars in the SBS's upcoming drama Scent of a Woman. She plays the role of a woman who, after being diagnosed with a terminal illness, decides to liver her life to the fullest. To better portray her role, Kim Sun Ah partook in a rigorous diet, only eating one meal per day. Along with her diet, she only slept for about two hours a night. At a production meeting, Kim Sun Ah said that such a diet and sleep schedule was a painful experience, as well as explaining why she decided to go to such measures for the drama. In the drama, my role is terminally ill. When youre ill, weight loss will occur. Kim Sun Ah maintained this diet for four months, saying she wanted to stick to the role. While I admire her dedication to the role, I hope she doesnt strain herself too hard with such a strenuous schedule. Scent of a Woman will air Saturdays and Sundays staring July 23, 2011. Check out the trailer below (sorry no subs!):

Korean actress Kim Sun Ah not only has a pretty face, she comes across as one who has a heart of gold as well. Kpopped! was honored to be able to interview this talented actress who came to Kuala Lumpur on 6 Dec 2011 to promote her latest drama Scent of a Woman. In the drama, she plays a cancer stricken woman who falls in love and tries to make the best of circumstances given the fact that she has six months to live. The 36 year-old actress with her bubbly personality captured the hearts of those who met her at the event! Heres what transpired at the exclusive interview!

What is the best or most memorable experience from filming Scent of A Woman? Kim Sun Ah: Theres too many, I think I cant even choose one because every scene in the drama is memorable to me. The crying scenes, which I had to do a lot in this drama, would probably be the hardest. Its just too hard to cry a lot because in my previous dramas I didnt really have to shoot many sad scenes like I did in Scent of A Woman. But this is what I like from filming this drama, perhaps this could be the most memorable experience (crying scenes) because I got to learn

new things that I rarely do before. Also, for this drama I got the chance to work with great staff members, writers and director. As a whole, filming this drama itself is the best experience for me. What made you decide to do this project (Scent of A Woman) together with Lee Dong Wook? Kim Sun Ah: To me, everything in life is like a destiny. Choosing to appear in this drama, meeting and acting together with Lee Dong Wook are all like a destiny, or something that is already meant to be. For Scent of A Woman, I was the first to be chosen as the cast, so my role was already decided. Then Lee Dong Wook was chosen as the lead actor and followed by Uhm Ki Joon. It was such a great opportunity for me to be able to work alongside these awesome actors. Its almost like a marriage when it comes to filming. Its a destiny that you have chosen to be into. For this project, it was a happy marriage for me and the rest of the cast. You had to go through an extreme diet to fit the role of Lee Yeon Jae in Scent of A Woman. How did that experience help you in getting into the character? Kim Sun Ah: As an actress, whatever drama or movie Im in, I have to be the character that Im portraying. When I was filming My Name is Kim Sam Soon, I had to gain 10kgs to fit my role. Then for City Hall I was back to my normal weight again. For Scent of A Woman, I had to lose a lot of weight

because my role, Lee Yeon Jae, is a woman whos really sick and facing death. Make up could not do much to accomplish this, so I had to do whatever I can in order to make the character real. It was very hard to lose that much weight in such a short period of time. Aside from eating only one meal a day, the toughest thing for me would be not being able to sleep for more than two hours a day. Indeed, it was an awful experience (bad diet), but I think it helped me to make Lee Yeon Jaes character more real to our audience. Loosing weight for my role in the drama wasnt easy. I survived with less than 2 hours sleep a day and a very unhealthy diet. Dont try it at home folks! In this drama, you fell in love with a younger guy. Would you date a younger boyfriend in real life? What would the range of age be if you do? Kim Sun Ah: (laugh) Why not? Age is just a number. Really, why would you be bothered with how many age differences you have with your loved one? Love has nothing to do with age. I totally dont have anything against dating a younger guy or vice versa. There wont be any range of age, in my opinion, when it comes to love. If you love that someone, you just love him for who he is, nothing else matters. A young guy sometimes thinks like an old man. And even an oppa could be like a kid and have a very immature mindset. So in that sense, I think the

most important thing is what our hearts feel. If your heart tells you that hes the one, so be it. Its as simple as that. Tango is a very sexy dance and was featured a lot in the drama. Do you consider yourself a good tango dancer now? Kim Sun Ah: (laugh) To say that Im a good tango dancer would be too much, because honestly I didnt know anything much about tango. Like everyone, I think tango is a fancy dance and at the same time it looks exquisite and fabulous too. Its a dance that is full of energy and feelings that comes from your heart (when youre dancing). It took me two weeks to learn the tango steps for this drama. In Scent of A Woman, I danced with Lee Dong Wook and Uhm Ki Joon. And the feeling differs when you change your partners. But no matter who your partner is, tango is a dance that puts two people together as one. Ive done tango with Rain during one of his performances, and also with Cha Seung Won in City Hall. So when I heard that I have to tango again in this drama my initial reaction to the director was, What? Tango again? (laugh). But the director asked me to read the scenario first to explain why he chose tango and so I did. Once I read it, I just had to say yes because tango in this drama means so much more than just a dance. In this drama tango is not used to show that its a fabulous dance or anything, instead it gives Lee Yeon Jae a

new start and a better look at life. It also gives her hope to go on and it shows the good connection that both Kang Ji Wook (Lee Dong Wook) and Lee Yeon Jae have when they are dancing together. The bubbly actress kept the interview session lively by posing for the camera in-between questions Youve been in this industry for more than 10 years now. Do you have any plan of going international? Since you obviously have no problem in speaking English. Kim Sun Ah: (laugh) Oh, you think my English is good? Thank you so much (smile). As for my future plan, I will work harder so that I can be in good dramas and movies for many years to come, locally or internationally. Even though Ive been acting for quite a long time, I still think I have a lot more to learn, and in fact, with new dramas or movies, I always learn new things that Ive never experienced before. This is your first time in Malaysia. Any local food that you have tried? Kim Sun Ah: Ermmm.. Ive eaten dim sum. ..oh, was my answer too short? (laugh) Any last words for your fans and viewers of Scent of A Woman? Kim Sun Ah: First of all, thank you so much for such a warm welcome. I hope that this drama will be loved by everyone and I

hope that you will enjoy seeing me and all the casts in Scent of A Woman. Thank you. Kim Sun Ah the fun loving and affable yet dedicated actress is willing to take up challenging roles

Kim Sun Ah (36) had her final (?) interview related to her weight. She made the request that she doesn't want to talk anymore about her weight. The press release of the new SBS weekend drama "Scent of a Woman" was held on the 19th in Seoul. However, the most striking of all was a much slimmer Kim Sun Ah and her know-how's to controlling her weight and diet. However, Kim Sun Ah felt pressured by all the attention to her weight. She asked, "I wish you would focus more on the drama than my weight. I want to sympathize the importance of life and happiness through the life of a woman who has been given little time to live". She revealed the excess attention she received about her weight in the past as well. She said, "After the drama "My Name is Kim Sam Soon" I had to hear from so many people everyday about weight for about 6~7 years. 100 out of 100 all said the same thing. I was neurotic even". She also doesn't want to talk about her diet because of her fans worries as well. She said, "I had to lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time and unhealthily because of the character in the drama. I didn't eat well and only slept 3 hours. If I say this, others will follow me so I don't speak of it. It's not good for your health". Hard working actress Kim Sun Ah. Hopefully she will free

herself from the Sam-soon image through this drama and breathe. Regardless of her weight, she is the best actress there is. Meanwhile, "Scent of a Woman" is a romantic comedy with Kim Sun Ah, Lee Dong Wook, Uhm Ki Joon and more about a woman who quits her job of ten years and leaves on a trip where she realizes the meaning of life. Coming on the 23rd at 9.50 p.m.

The drama posters for the new kdrama starring Kim Sun Ah and Lee Dong Wook has been released! Kim Sun Ah is looking beautiful and Lee Dong Wook is as dashing as ever. The first poster is of the 2 main leads sitting on the beach in wedding outfits, I am guessing this was taken in Okinawa where they had been filming for the drama. The second poster features the 2 main leads plus the 2 supporting actors and actresses. In the new romantic drama follows the story of a woman who has terminal cancer (Kim Sun Ah) and her romance with a rich man (Lee Dong Wook) who although has wealth, he does not find much to be happy about in life. Thats as much as I know about the plot, look forward to watching it!

Because Kim Sun Ah is playing an ill woman, she had to go on a drastic diet to lose weight. She looks very skinny here at the press conference, she said to the public that she had lost alot of weight and had to go on a painful diet to achieve this result needed for the character. She said that she doesnt really want to talk about it as some may be encouraged to follow her diet to lose weight, and she said its not something people should follow as it is very painful and bad for your body. Sun Ah unnie said she is looking forward to getting her body back to health with good food and exercise. I love the fact that she is not endorsing skinny is good, shes always had a healthy body image and Im so glad for it. Better than all those skinny korean female stars who obviously starve themselves to death.

In the drama series, Lee Dong Wook plays a rich guy and his character reportedly has more than 80 different costumes. However, compared to his handsome and fashionable appearance in the drama series, the actor acknowledged that most of the audience prefer him to go topless in the show. "I might have a lot of costumes changes in the drama series, but the audiences still prefer my swimming and shower scenes! (laughs)" When asked on how he managed to attain his welltoned bod, Lee Dong Wook revealed that it was through much sweat and effort. "Knowing that I will have half-nude scenes, I sought help from a friend who's familiar with body-building. I trained for eight weeks (for three hours daily). At the same time, I also have to watch my diet to attain such results," he explained.

Apart from Lee Dong Wook who sacrificed his "body" for the drama series, the female lead also gave her best to the show. A visibly slimmer Kim Sun Ah revealed that she had forced herself to slim down to realistically portray the role of a cancer patient and clarified that she "only lost about 3 to 4kg". "Because my face is sharper now, so the difference is more obvious," she added. To achieve this result, Kim Sun Ah had one meal per day, and slept for two hours each day during the six months of production.
