HANDLE WITH CARE CRISIS INTERVENTION


Course Description
This workshop, conducted by experienced staff from St. Patrick Center, will provide an overview of verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques to use with distressed clients. Participants will learn the importance of the Handle with Care philosophy along with the tools and skills needed to manage a client's crisis. The staff at St. Patrick Center have used these techniques since initiating the Handle with Care system, and to this date, have not been placed in any situations where they needed to use physical restraints. This training benefits all staff.

Catholic Charities will provide FREE parking in the lot across the street. Registrants will receive a confirmation email, which will provide detailed parking information. Presenters
Jonathan Belcher currently works as a community based support specialist with the HERO program. He has been a member of the Handle with Care team since 2009 and assumed leadership in March of last year. Jonathan works with homeless veterans who currently live in transitional housing and are working toward attaining permanent housing. He works closely with the Veterans Administration and the Department of Mental Health. Jess Cox serves as the Senior Employment Specialist for St. Patrick Centers Employment Department and has been a certified member of the Handle with Care team since 2006. Jess provides direct assistance to individuals with employment needs and to those experiencing homelessness. Carolyn Schopp currently works as a Job Developer and Mentor Coordinator at St. Patrick Center. She joined St. Patrick Center in 2010 and has been on the Handle with Care team ever since. Carolyn develops employment opportunities for homeless veterans by cultivating relationships with employers from the St. Louis region. She also represents the Center in veteran-related matters and has developed close relationships with the Department of Veteran Affairs and local non-profits.
